AMAZING! Experienced this restaurant for the first time this weekend. We did their restaurant week menu and we each ordered different things so I was able to try a variety of things in addition to my selections. I loved how flavorful everything was! For starters we had the salt & pepper squid and buffalo mozzarella. I loved the combo of the mozzarella and mushrooms but I definitely think the squid won over our table. For our second course we had the beef tartare and shrimp curry. Though I loved the tartare, I loved the unique flavor of the shrimp the most. For our main course we had goat cheese gnudi, Icelandic cod, and short rib. I loved the goat cheese gnudi the most. I have nothing negative to say about the other options though. For dessert we had the chocolate date cake which I thought was perfectly portioned and also perfect in flavor. Not too sweet, which I appreciated because I tend to be turned off by desserts that are too rich or sweet. Overall the quality of food was impressive but I loved the variety of options and blend of flavors. The vibe was also perfect. A great place for a date night!

I had heard a lot of good things about Trenchermen prior to my first time eating here and was very much looking forward to it. We made our visit during Chicago Restaurant Week, so take that into account for this review. Trenchermen was very good and overall I had a really enjoyable meal. Nothing about the meal, however, wowed me. It was all just very good, well crafted food with no real ‘OMG this is amazing moments.’ For all the hype I’d heard prior to going, I really thought I’d have that moment but never did. The ambiance is low key and perfect for a date or good conversation with a small group but I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to sit with any more than 4 people here — it just feels too private and cozy for a bigger group. Our service was great, always around for questions or any needs. Overall, it was very good and I’ll definitely go back to try their full menu. When I do, I hope to get my ‘wow’ moment!

Girl’s Night Out + Restaurant Week = Wooohoooooo!!! My girlfriends and I tried Trenchermen for Restaurant Week since we all haven’t been to this place and I am happy that we checked it out. It was a night of new flavors and ingredients for me. I love having friends who are foodies too… There is a silent agreement and respect that we all know not to order the same things on the menu so we could try as much food as we could. Yay for foodie friends! Anyway, since Trenchermen only offered the menu for RW which gives us 4 dishes each, we’ve tried a LOT of food. Here is a breakdown of the dishes that stood out the most for me: Foie Gras Mousse– the flavor was phenomenal. period. Sweet Potato Agnolotti — I love how the sweet potato flavor just burst out in every bite of the pasta. the best part was the brussel sprouts soaked in an Udon-tasting broth. I loved this dish very much! Skuna Bay Salmon– great combination of texture and flavors in one dish. First time trying Wheat Berries(which we thought was quinoa) and this was really good. The topping was toasted(roasted?) snails and it was delicious! The snails gave the perfectly cooked salmon that crunchy topping texture. Corned Short Rib — the meat melts in your mouth with a little crunch on the side, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Delicious! My friends and I had a great dining experience at Trenchermen. The ambience was chic, nice, and a great place to dine and drink. Service was friendly and efficient. The only set back for me, I did not like the selections for the RW desserts. The Pineapple Grit Cake was just ok for me and same goes to the Chocolate Date Cake. I’m a big dessert person so sorry, it was a big deal for me:)

The burger, In my opinion is the best burger I have ever had(better than Au Cheval). We were here on a wednesday, and on wednesday they have a deal at the bar for like a $ 10 burger with a beer. Honestly this was the best burger I have ever had. It came with mushrooms all over it, and I hate mushrooms, but I ate every last bite, bc whatever the marinade it in was unreal and just the best thing ever. I have dreams about this burger that is how good it was. Service at the bar was good, it was really crowded on wednesday at like 7, but died down as the night went on. I can’t really speak for the restaurant yet as we were at the bar, but I would 900% come back to this place for the restaurant, I have so many more things to try and need to get that burger again.

The atmosphere here is great and the pricing is really reasonable for brunch(expect to spend $ 15-$ 25). Have a really cheap friend in your party? They have avocado toast for $ 3. We had the eggs florentine, which had the most amazing brussel sprouts on the side. I mean really, why are these not the whole dish? The eggs were alright, they were poached and the whites were still a bit runny. Otherwise, everything was great. We split a Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich as well and it was way too much. The flavoring was really overpowering and the spice factor was too much.

Trencherman was good, but not great(and certainly not cheap). I had the pork belly and grits — the flavors were nice but my pork belly was slightly overcooked. I also had a side of buttermilk pancakes which were quite small but tasted good. My friend had the eggs florentine and side of sausage. The biscuit in her dish was nice and flaky though I wasn’t a fan of the sauce. I wouldn’t mind having brunch here again but probably no time soon.

I’ve been here a couple times and haven’t been disappointed. I came in for brunch with some friends on a recent visit to Chicago. It was just how I remember it. Trencherman has a casual, rustic feel with dark wood everywhere and it makes you want to sit around all day with your friends and just shoot the breeze. The brunch menu was the perfect size. It wasn’t so short where you left thinking«This is it?» and it wasn’t tool long enabling indecision. I was in the midst of a strict workout program so my options were even more limited. Reluctantly, I decided on the Quinoa Salad but our server assured me that it’s quite tasty… and she wasn’t wrong. It was a light dish of Quinoa, Grilled Asparagus and various mixed greens with a perfectly soft-boiled egg sitting atop everything like a bird’s nest. It was lightly dressed and tied everything together nicely. I was certainly impressed so much could be done with so little. One of my friends got a picture-perfect Eggs Florentine — Homemade Biscuits, Kale and perfect soft-boiled eggs dalloped with Spicy Hollandaise sauce accompanied by Grilled Zucchini. It was a fantastic take on a classic. Overall, the service was pretty good and the food was excellent. This place is great for any occasion and any time of day. You simply can’t go wrong buying a ticket to Trencherman’s solid and consistence performance.
