Unilocal makes me give one star although they should get none. ***If you have any sort of dietary restriction, keep walking. We found P.F. Chang’s was more than willing to accommodate, as it should be*** We had one of the worst customer service experiences as soon as we talked to the lady with glasses at the hostess stand. We noticed the menu posted in the window has tofu options. Knowing our usual Chinese restaurant helps me by making my favorite dishes vegan, I decided to ask this young lady if their chefs would also accommodate. What happened next was unacceptable. I politely asked if any of the dishes, made with the tofu options, could be vegan. She snapped into an immediate attitude and advised they use a lot of sauces so it really just depended on what I ordered. Left there hanging without assistance or options she decided to keep talking; unfortunately. She obviously and unabashedly felt the need to give us an education by stating that they use fish sauce in certain sauces. She continued to belittle us by saying that by taking certain elements out of the dish, such as said fish sauce, would«alter the taste and quality of the dish and they simply do not stand behind that.» Really? News flash — you’re in the customer service industry. Appalled by her unacceptable arrogance I was left without words. She continued her banter with«you walked into an Asian restaurant, we use fish sauce in our sauces.» And with that, they lost two customers and gained a shitty review on Unilocal. I truly hope the person responsible for«balancing the books» reads this review and gives this lady a lesson in good customer service. However, if this lady is the one responsible to «balance the books» then take a lesson from other businesses that do know good customer service. My next review will detail our outstanding experience at P.F. Chang’s, just down the street. It was phenomenal and a complete turn around from this poor experience. As soon as we walked in I approached the hostess stand, explained my vegan diet and she, with full product knowledge, already had detailed dishes that would meet my needs. Our server, Kevin, was amazing as he had 100 percent product knowledge as well and was able to offer many, many options in an Asian restaurant that knows how to properly cook food for their customers without sacrificing the quality of the dish. Lesson to be learned here is that if YOU don’t take care of your customers, someone else will… and HAS. I will always give my regards as I pass Top Wok, probably in the form of flipping the bird.

This is a nice looking place for lunch, but the food could be quite a bit better. Food– started off with the chicken egg rolls which were actually really good. Super crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside, just the way egg rolls should be. We then got sushi(the chefs roll) which was disappointing. The sushi was not balanced well. A slab of raw fish on top which was blah, and inside the roll was about a millimeter of shrimp tempura and the rest was cucumber. Not very good. We then got fried rice which wasn’t good either. The rice was very bland and they mixed in peppers and peas, which are not usually in fried rice, but most likely came in the package of frozen vegetables they used. Service– Service was fast and satisfactory.

This is what I needed my first night in downtown Chicago. It was windy, rainy, and did I mention super icky? I didn’t want to walk outside in search for place to eat, but luckily my hotel had a few take out menus. So, I opted for Chinese food from TopWok. They asked about a billion questions on the phone about my delivery order(not a billion, but I was hungry and tired after three questions). And, they promised to deliver within an hour to an hour and a half. It was rush hour, so I understood. When they arrived(actually only 30 minutes later), my Pad Thai, chicken satay, and wonton egg soup arrived. They were all deliciously warm, but it was a lot of food. So, I saved the rest in my refrigerator for the next night. So, thank you, TopWok for two nights of food! :) It was great for a cold and icky night, but I’m not sure if I’d patronize it in any other weather condition.

Walking in later on a Tuesday night, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I do love when you walk into an Asian restaurant and all the patrons and servers are 100% Asian! As per my typical MO, I ordered quite a plethora of offerings. All in all, I was very happy with the selection.
