Accidentally stumbled onto this place as I just left getting ripped off @ the Thompson Center for a license plate sticker. I was in the mood for a good sandwich and I saw the sign outside that said Toast It! Located in the same building as McDonalds & Robinsons Ribs on the north east corner of Clark & Lake. I decided I was going to go with my favorite sandwich, the Rueben. I watched them make it and then toast it in one of those panini thingies hence the name Toast It! Rueben was good as its one of the better one’s I have tried in quite awhile. Good spot to stop in if you work in the area.

I work outside the loop. Once a week I have to get off the train in the loop to do some business and I usually grab a breakfast sandwich. I have tried them all over the loop/city, not quite satisfied until this past Monday when I stopped here for the first time. I had a egg, bacon, peppered gouda on wheat and it was definitely the best I have had in years and years. The difference was the egg — that day it was not scrambled so much as hard fried, so it still had a solid yolk that could be tasted in the eating. I loved it — so much that I have been thinking about it all week. I had wanted to say something to the gentleman behind the counter at the time, and perhaps I would have had a better experience today if I had, but I was short on time. I have been thinking of that sandwich all week since eating it. This morning, deciding that I was not willing to wait for my weekly stop next week, I left home early so I would have time to stop and eat. I ordered a different bread and meat(pretzel roll and sausage) but i thought that would only enhance what I had had days earlier. I was deeply disappointed… the egg, like all the chain restaurants around it, was scrambled. The yolk lost in the mix. It was good, but not all that much different or better than any other place. I am willing to try again… but another scramble will have me on the streets again, continuing my search for the great egg-sandwich(which I had here on Monday). After days of thinking about that sandwich, changing my schedule to have one… I cannot tell you how let down I felt. This morning it was the gentleman making the sandwiches, my first was made by the woman… perhaps it is a difference based on who prepares the sandwich? Next week I will go for the tie-breaker. I truly hope Toast It wins.

Tried this new place… It is ok. Sandwich was good but just not enough meat. At $ 9.50 for a sandwich and drink I was expecting a lot more. Still continuing my search for great corned beef in the Loop!

I got the Oven Gold Ciabatta sandwich and was pleasantly surprised by this healthy option in the 201 N Clark food court. I pre-ordered it and it was ready and hot by the time I came to pick it up. Will definitely be back when I’m looking for a tasty, healthy option.

I got a Reuben sandwich delivered from this place to my office. Without even biting into it, I could already tell the bread was soggy. HOWCANYOUCALLYOURRESTAURANT«Toast It!?» The cheese wasn’t melted at all. The meat looked fine, but there is seriously something wrong with the Thousand Island dressing they put on it, like they used bad relish or something. I painstakingly took three little bites(to pinpoint what made it so terrible) and threw the rest out. A coworker beside me got their Roast Beef sandwich, said his was terrible also, and he’s not really that picky an eater.
