While I don’t get what the fuss is over their steak sandwiches, they really know how to cook a potato! I love their fresh cut fries and I often get their loaded baked potatoes. Be careful, because there is a very good chance you will be in a carb coma when you leave this place. I also like their frozen lemonade drinks. The service is pretty good, really nice ladies make the food. Although I can never understand the lady that works the register b/c she mumbles or something. Stick with saying«no» in response and it’s usually a safe bet.

Blast from the past! Some blasts from the past are bad, like tense run-ins with an ex or awkward small talk with an old random from high school. And some are so good; you wonder how you could have forgotten about them in the first place. It’s been years since I last ate at Great Steak & Potato, and even then, I could count those instances with fewer fingers than I have on one hand. I actually had every intention of walking to Panera for some soup and salad action, but for some reason I just started walking aimlessly and in the opposite direction. Hey, it’s my lunch hour and I’ll walk if I want to. So I hit the corner and saw it: a bright red Great Steak and Potato awning… and it was like a homing beacon I couldn’t resist. This location is pretty big, with ample seating space and great natural light. Sometimes I get overwhelmed by a robust menu so I end up ordering the first thing I see. Lucky for me, my eyes landed on the Great steak combo: cheese steak grilled with onions and provolone cheese, topped with lettuce, tomato and mayo. I went light on the mayo and held the tomato, with fries on top. I just knew this trip down memory lane would cost me(and I’m not talking about $), but once I’m in, I am all in. When I took my first bite, it all came rushing back to me. Why I’ve been avoiding this joint all these years. Because it is dan-ger-ous, dan-ger-ous on the dance floor… or at least for my waistline. The steak, onions, cheese, bread, boardwalk fries, everything, was so good. No ingredient overpowered the other, they all came together to sing one powerful, perfectly blended solo in my mouth. Now that I know I am literally a mere three blocks from such temptation, part of me wishes I could«unfind it.» I couldn’t finish my whole meal since the portions are generous, but I had enough to remind myself why some blasts from the past are good and some are bad. This one is a little bit of both. For the sake of my arteries, I’ll probably only go there again once in a blue moon. Those come at least once a year right?
