5÷4÷12. This was our second time here. The first time was okay, but this time… Apparently the owners lost the business & it has been taken over by a bank & boy does it show! Talk about neglect. The upkeep & maintenance were obviously suffering. The first night, during a rain storm, water poured through the bathroom ceiling light/fan fixture. The next morning, when we informed the manager, he said they would get someone out to fix the roof. We took his word, but then 2 nights later– another heavy rain & again water pouring through the ceiling. This was not a drip– we had to hold a towel over our heads to use the toilet! The manager said that he thought«it had been fixed». He stated they would refund the charges for our stay(nice, but come on –at the very least– right?!). There was never any offer to move us to another room(none available he said) or to another hotel. There was no thought given to our safety, i.e. the electrical hazard! It was obvious that the roof had been leaking very recently, as there were patch areas in various places on the ceiling. We don’t understand why they even rented this room out. In addition, we had no parking space available each night, even though their web site guarantees free off street parking– wrong! One night we had to park four blocks away-this was after riding around for 55 minutes looking. Anyone who lives in Hyde Park knows what this is like. What a shame. It was a great concept– condo-style accommodations in Hyde Park, where any hotel accommodations are slim(can you say yuck– the Ramada?). We were very excited as our son lives 1 street over, and we visit about 4 times per year. Unfortunately, we won’t be back at the Beadle, and my guess is that it won’t be up & running much longer.

Much more of a home base than a hotel. There were some really great things about the Beadle. It is about a mile from the University where my conference was. The bed was comfortable. There is a very deep soaking tub that was heaven(though I did feel slightly guilty about the amount of water it took to fill it). The toiletries didn’t make me sick. The rooms come with a full kitchen, a living room, and washer/dryer, much more like an apartment. But there are some things they do not have that you might expect if you typically stay at hotels. There is no concierge. Wayne is there to check you in, but if you need a non-emergency thing in the middle of the night, like an extra blanket… Not sure how you would get that. There were no extra blankets in the room. The complimentary coffee was folgers. If you care about coffee– bring your own. Not quite sure how the maid service worked. I met her. She was quite pleasant, but the room didn’t seem to get cleaned. Maybe it’s an extra fee, or maybe we simply weren’t there long enough. I think they specialize in longer stays. All in all it was a good stay and I would stay there again.
