I went shopping for a baptism dress for my soon-to-be god-daughter(9 month old) with her mom who is Mexican. After two other stores, we were so thankful to have found Rocio’s at 3420 W. 26th. The sales ladies there were so geniunely nice and very knowledgeable of their products, and not pushy at all. They spoke perfect English to me and perfect Spanish to my friend. The storefront looks small but they have a very large selection of children’s clothes and products for christening, communion, and casual wear, from super fancy to simple elegant. This was the first store with cotton options for the dresses. Each dress has a price tag so there are no hidden surprises. Most were in the $ 70-$ 90 range which is a lot cheaper than Azul y Rosa which were in the $ 80-$ 150 range(the sales ladies there were also not very nice; and they only had synthetic options). Rocio’s also has baptismal dresses imported from all over Latin America so there are traditional styles and fabrics available from Mexico, Colombia, etc. We ended up buying a $ 70 dress made of indigenuous Mexican cloth(I don’t know the name of it in Spanish but it looks like a very sturdy yet light cotton; it came with a matching handmade bonnet). My friend was so extremely happy to find something that calls back to their roots. Our second choice was very nice too. It was a cotton two-piece dress(imagine a short dress worn over a long sleeveless dress) so that after the ceremony you can take off the long dress and wear only the short dress. It was a hard decision. Lastly, I also bought the shoes and underwear to go with the dress plus the bible/candle set(they had like 20 different options to choose from)! They sell socks, hair accessories, and invitations too. My friend also bought a very cute pair for sandals for her daughter for $ 17. There is street/metered parking in front of the store and the neighborhood feels very safe.
