I’ve been here several times and once for my birthday. I ordered margaritas and fajitas. Both were great. It’s pretty cozy inside with a lot of fun decorations. They decorate a lot for Day of the Dead, which is when my birthday is so that was a nice touch. They also have cute outdoor seating.

Brought the folks here for dinner never having tried it before although we’ve walked by it about a million times. Now, I wish I hadn’t waited so long! The service was good and the dining room was really cozy and warm. It was picture perfect with the huge snowflakes of the season’s first snow falling outside the window. All four entrees were delicious and the Mexican pumpkin soup was spicy and tasty. I had the Mexican turkey meatloaf(I would never think of ordering regular ol’ meatloaf anywhere so I’m not sure what got into me) and it was so good that I tried making it at home. Mine fell flat so I guess I’ll just have to go back for more perfect margaritas!

Best neighborhood spot for great mole and margaritas. We’ve been 50 times and I love coming here. Decorations and service are top notch. Outdoor seating and plenty of indoor seating. Kid friendly and great for dates or solo.

We held a Bridal Shower here for a couple who were having a Destination Wedding in Mexico. The Mexican décor already in place was perfect! Patty was wonderful to work with! The private room, all of the food, drinks, and service were excellent! We could not have been more pleased!

We came here looking for a quiet lunch spot and this seemed like a good option because my bf was in the mood for Mexican food. We were a little fooled at first because the place seemed closed because it is a little bit dark, but walk right in! The place is small with an authentic grandmas Mexican kitchen feel and a bar against the wall. The walls are decorated with skulls from dia de Los muertos and other decoration ornaments. They also have an outdoor area in front however it was too hot outside. We were immediately served chips and a spicy salsa and we ordered a red sangria pitcher, which was well made and you could actually still taste the wine. I had the quesadilla de rico and my bf had the tacos de mar special. Although I though the food was a little bit too pricey it was very flavorful and authentic. Their rice and beans was very good. I did feel a little bit ignored by the server as he seemed more interested in the group of three women that walked in with us.

Found a bug in my glass for the second time tonight. The food is not great either. Will not be going back.

This is the perfect Mexican restaurant if you want to eat at a day care center. We have been there on several occasions, and toddlers were screaming in their high chairs and the kids were running around. If this suits your situation, it is the perfect spot, but we could not hear each other talk. The owner’s son was apologetic, but the owner seemed to be more concerned about the bottom line as opposed the dining experience of the long time customers. After many years of eating here, we will have to find another option.

So my family and I went here after seeing the Nutcracker down the street at the Atheneum Theatre. I originally made reservations elsewhere, but my wife was not feeling the Italian food thing and wanted Mexican instead… should’ve went with my reservation, but a pregnant wife is Chief when it comes to meals. Let me start with the few bright spots here. First, we walked in at 4:30pm on a Sunday and was greeted be a waiter who advised they weren’t open yet. He didn’t make us leave, he just asked us to be seated and wait to be served, which was fine with us. After a half hour wait the restaurant officially opened for business and we were served the drinks we ordered. The previous review about the service didn’t show its ugly head here. There was hardly any people in the place, so our service was good. It’s Xmas time, so the décor and ambiance was really nice. They played holiday music, but it was the same songs just looped… and that’s where the positivity ends. We ordered guac as our appetizer. The problem with that is the waiter told us the cook wasn’t in yet, but could get our guac. Should’ve known better. He proceeded to bring out the worst guac known to man. It wasn’t fresh and was basically paste and had no seasoning. I and my daughter ordered tacos and my wife ordered chimichangas. The rice and refried beans was pretty tasty, but again, the meat wasn’t seasoned well and our tacos were dry. Had to ask for sour cream, lime, red sauce and green sauce; just to help things. My wife’s chimichangas were terrible. They were small, not flavorful and just had meat in them. It comes with three and they’re about the size of egg-rolls. Basically, we’re never going back. The food is horrendous. Elgin, IL is where I’ll continue getting the best Mexican food in the state.

I really want to love this place – I just can’t. The food is way OVERPRICED, and it’s merely sub-par. My biggest complaint is honestly about the parents in Roscoe Village. Clearly they don’t know how to control their children at an establishment. Que Rico seems more like a pizza place than a restaurant. If they lowered their prices and live INTO a family friendly establishment – I’d be all about this place. But, when I walk out with a $ 50 bill for not great Mexican food – that’s a problem.

Great experience this evening. Service was courteous and prompt(Sean was our server). Food was delicious with good size portions. Margaritas were good and strong. Sat outside and atmosphere was just fine. Not sure why the other Unilocalers gave it a bad rap, but I assure you this is a solid, affordable restaurant with good service and we’ll be back!

Sad to write this review, because I live in the area and love supporting local businesses, but our last experience at Que Rico was god awful. We sat out on the patio, beautiful evening, but the service was one of the worst I have ever experienced. We had waited 30 minutes for a table(not a big deal, we didn’t have reservations), but after we were seated, it took another 20 minutes for anyone to come to our table. We finally got a pitcher of margaritas 15 minutes after(which were very good), but the 1 appetizer we orders(nachos) literally looked like a 5 year old made them. It was chips with cheese, tomatoes, and a dollop of sour cream… most of the cheese wasn’t even melted. We decided not to order entrees given the terrible service and horrible appetizer. Shocked this place is still in business.

We enjoyed sitting on the patio with friends for a Sunday night dinner. The service was absurdly awful. Slow, we had to beg to get a drink, order, get chips– every time was like pulling teeth. Food was good quality, guacamole seemed like it was out of a store-bought tub. If they improve the service, they could have a good thing going!

Pretty good food but they have to be kidding me with the prices. Two empanada are $ 8.40(according to ) and one empanada at tengo sur a FAR superior restaurant is only $ 2.00!!!

Just visited this past weekend for the first time. My fiancé and I have been looking for a low key Mexican restaurant with some decent margaritas and I think we have found just the spot. The bomber margaritas are legit and the empanadas were delicious. It was a surprisingly quiet environment for a Saturday night which was a nice change from some of the more trendy places we have been recently. We will most definitely be back.

Solid Mexican cuisine with above-average margaritas. The bomber margaritas are the best. Good guacamole, queso fundido and enchiladas. Big menu, lots of good vegetarian and seafood options, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and friendly staff.

Amazing food, service, and decent prices! I go here all the time and they have the best margaritas around. This is my favorite Mexican place in Chicago particularly because they make the best Mole sauce around(homemade not from a can). The portions here are huge so there are always leftovers and the prices are comparable to portion size. The servers are always nice and efficient. The last time I went I was able to meet the owner who was such a friendly woman. She even bought us drinks! The restaurant is huge inside, you could even have a party here! Something else that’s great about this place that I just found out, they do take out! This is a family owned, small business which I love and it’s a gem in the city. I would definitely recommend this place and I take all my friends and family here!

The first time we ate here, we thought we had found a hidden gem. I got the chicken mole, and I can’t remember what my boyfriend got, but we both loved our dishes. We came back for a second time a few weeks later. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, my boyfriend got the pork mole, and we got the empanadas for an appetizer. The empanadas were mostly the pastry with very little filling and the dipping sauce tasted like it was tomato sauce poured out of a can. It had absolutely no flavor at all. Our entrees took forever to come out after the appetizers. My enchiladas were okay. Nothing too special, but decent. My boyfriend’s pork was just. terrible. It was big chunks of fatty pork that was extremely overcooked. The mole didn’t taste right either. My boyfriend tried to be a trooper and eat what he could, but most of the meat was inedible. He ended up eating half of my enchiladas. The margaritas were okay, again, nothing special. The service was average. For the prices that they charge, the food should be better quality. With the array of Mexican places in the area, I won’t be back.

Good food, but the service was not so good. I got steak fajitas and my date got the skirt steak. Both were prepared nicely and actually came out of the kitchen quickly. The chips and salsa were pretty standard, not bad but nothing special. The outdoor seating area was nice and it was a beautiful night so that topped it off. Unfortunately, the waiter wasn’t very attentive. My water was left empty for extended periods of time and had me looking around for someone to wave down for more. It was even tough to get a 2nd round of beers in a normal amount of time. When it came time to pay, it took at least 10 minutes to get our check after we asked for it and then another 10 – 15 minutes for him to come pick it back up to run the card. I’d understand this if it were a busy night, but it definitely was not.

This is my favorite Mexican place in the city. For the record, I am an intense margarita snob, and these are by far the best margaritas in the city. They are tequila, Cointreau, lime juice — no gross mixes, no high fructose corn syrup, no neon green dyes — just margaritas the way god intended them to be. The food — while always a secondary consideration for me at Mexican restaurants — is great, always piping hot when it comes out, and includes a lot more than just your standard Mexican fare. I enjoy this place so much that I actually got married here. We rented out the back room and I had the best night of my life. The owner, Patty, was phenomenal and accommodating, and everyone at my wedding said it was the best one they’ve ever attended. All this to say: go here if you love margaritas and a good time.

Came here for dinner on a Friday night and sat on the patio. My raspberry margarita was quite tasty but not really very strong. My camarones el ajo were fine as well(though a little overpriced and the beans portion a little scant). Fine is the word. Not bad, not great, but okay. one note to the owners if they are reading this: please stock your ladies room. Seriously, you weren’t even crowded, so you shouldn’t have been out of tp in one of the stalls and you should have had paper towel for the sinks. I am deducting a star for that.
