Horribly disappointing. I ordered for delivery, was given no price, and the delivery took way too long. I opened the brown bag that could have been filled with dog shit and to my delight I found my orange chicken. It was about half as big as I expected and on my first bite didn’t taste too bad but didn’t tickle my balls either. The worst part was the extra dollar I was charged for brown rice. This rice basically resembled burnt white rice and when I took a bite it felt as if trident had turned their gum into rice form. It was edible and that’s saying a lot. Overall I was very disappointed and my 6 inch went from midnight to six. When I usually order Chinese food my hog pops out of the barn door in my pants with excitement. Not this time. I would give this place two thumbs up my ass, I can’t even imagine the pain I’ll be feeling in the bathroom tomorrow either. Smh

Literally get an order of crispy candy per person. Not just one piece per person… one ORDER!

I really enjoyed dinning in at this tiny little gem next to my apartment. It was 3pm so it was just us, the place is really small and we sat up front where they have two small tables but there is a 2nd floor for larger parties. The crispy candies(Rangoon shaped like little wrapped hard candies) was really good to me, my friend doesn’t like cream cheese so luckily I got to eat them all! He got a soup with dumplings(basil, I think?) which was amaaazing, the both had so much flavor and I would definitely order it next time. For my entrée I got the cashew chicken because the server recommended it when I asked what he liked, it was really sweet which is fine to me because I have a bit of a sweet tooth but I can see how it can be overwhelming for some people.(Or maybe I just ordered a bunch of sweet stuff with the candies, thai tea plus this) The sauce did have lots of pineapple so maybe that’s why, still. it was delicious and I ate every last bit. I’ll be going back to try a few more of the dishes and see what else they have to offer. To the people complaining about the food not being crispy when delivered — keep in mind that steam gets trapped in take-out containers and can loose some of the crispy goodness by the time it gets to your dining room table, try dining in if you can next time. 1 app, 1 soup, 2 entrees, 2 drinks for $ 33. Not bad It’s a cute little place. Me likes ^_^

A very worthy takeout place for Thai! We live close by so we are pretty regular patrons. Except for the Mongolian beef everything is great! Very friendly staff and very prompt service.

My bf and I ordered delivery from here after remembering that Krung Thep, our favorite neighborhood Thai spot, is closed on Tuesdays. We got a double order of Tom Kha with chicken, and it was insanely underwhelming. Literally just coconut milk broth with one diced mushroom, one diced tomato, and one ounce of chicken. Also — it was very mild, even though we requested extra spicy. I was excited to try this place, given the stellar reviews, but we’ll stick to our favorites with authentic and plentiful dishes.

I can’t say enough about this place. The food is amazing. It’s a byob and so reasonably priced! I’ve yet to have a dish we don’t love. We’ve had all the curries and most of the noodle dishes. You can’t go wrong here.

Really enjoyed my meal at A Plate. I ordered the crispy candy crab rangoons since the reviews on Unilocal seemed to rave about them — they are smaller than expected, but are sweet, creamy and delicious. For my entrée, I ordered the panang curry noodles with tofu — it was the perfect mix of sweet coconut milk and spicy curry. Loved every bite. Portions are huge(two of my friends shared an entrée). The restaurant is small and intimate, but we were able to get a table for our group of 8. And don’t forget, the restaurant is BYOB.

Took over an hour and twenty minutes to get delivery. I haven’t even eaten the food yet and I know I won’t ever order again.

So I frequent Thai restaurants at lest once a week and pretty much take the same thing at every one of them: Basil chicken. May seem a bit boring at first but actually it makes for interesting comparison since that meal is always made differently per restaurant. This place is hands down the best in town. They actually grill their chicken first and then make a meal out of it. Have been doing this for years and can’t find a better restaurant than this!!!

Oh my goodness. Where to start. My egg drop soup was simply an egg in water, the coconut soup was a handful of mushrooms in warm coconut milk with two pieces of chicken and half a tomato. All tasteless and all completely unacceptable.

I live in the area and this place is has been showing up on my recommended restaurants for months. The reason I hadn’t tried it until tonight was because I’d already fallen in love with Joy’s in Lakeview which has the best Thai food in Chicago. However, it was close and the weather sucked so I figured i would try it out. I ordered the pad kee Mao and because of recommendations from Unilocal reviews I got the crispy candies as well. The pad kee Mao was VERY greasy and it lacked flavor besides the tastes of grease and hot sauce. I had to add some of my own spices and hot sauce just to give it something. Anyone who tells you this place has great pad kee Mao is not to be trusted! The crispy candies were okay… Not very crispy and again very greasy. I’ll be sticking to what I know and going to the holy Mecca of Thai food that is Joys for my next order of pad kee Mao. Thanks!

I came here last week with couple of my friends for dinner. It’s walking distance from my place and I thought I would give it a try. To start, all of us ordered different appetizers to share, however we were never given any plates to place our food. The appetizers were served in an awkward cup and I kept making a mess all over the table every time I took a bite of my «crab curry roll,»(which just tasted like plain egg rolls). I waited for the waitress to bring us plates, but she never came back up(we were seated on the second floor). We did see bunch of plates stacked in the small room with utensils, so I simply grabbed three plates for us to use, however the waitress then came upstairs to bring our entrees and she got super pissed about us grabbing our own plates. She gave us really mean and rude comments even when I told her we did not wanna make a mess all over your tables. Over all the service was terrible and the food was not that great. Will not be back. Sad, because it’s so close to me and I really wanted to like the place.

Came here Sunday during lunch time. I guess all the nearby business stole all the customers for Sunday brunch. ZERO people came here to dine and we sat here a good 1:45. The food though had some great flavor and served with huuuge shrimp, if you ordered shrimp. I had the green curry, it was pretty tasty, tell me how to replicate this flavor at home? Friend ordered the tom yum soup, has a good kick and is pretty tart. Came with a couple big shrimp, well the shrimp were sliced in half mind you, to make it seem like there are more shrimp, you know what I mean I am sure. My friend ordered the glass noodle with shrimp and it looked pretty legit. I was trying to keep it light and not eat noodle but dang, when her plate came I wanted some haha. Another friend ordered the chicken panang curry, also smelled very good. So overall, this place doesnt seem like much but the food is good. Service wise, mediocre. Maybe come here for some quality take out.

Great food, especially the curry dishes. Very friendly staff that turns around orders quickly. Very small inside with seating upstairs in the loft area, I like it best for takeout.

Yum as usual. Quick delivery and fresh food! Pad Thai, crab Rangoon and beef and broccoli with chicken. Wasn’t super oily and too fried like most. Yumm.

Luckily, we live right down the street, but we would travel to get to this place. Or pay the delivery fee, I suppose :) Their crispy candy(crab rangoon) is amazing, and everything on their menu from the pad see ew to the curries are very tasty. Get the mango sticky rice for dessert!

From take out to dine-in, this Asian cuisine is a delightful spot to snag lunch or dinner. The staff is great, food hits the spot, and it’s BYOB! You cannot go wrong with A Place on Southport.

I order this pad thai for delivery at least once every couple of weeks, it is extremely good and the portion size is just right. I have never had the pleasure of dining in, although I live a block away. If you’re looking for good pad thai you’ve found a gem.

My flatmate had told me about A Plate on Southport since I have a great love for Thai cuisine. I remembered the location she gave, recalling that there was a Thai restaurant in that same spot previously that I loved. I figured I would give A Plate on Southport a try. Yes! Yes! Yes! Management had changed, but not the quality of the food. The tom yum shrimp came spicy the way I requested it. The panang, although a bit thinner than I prefer, was still full of bloom in flavour. As much as I loved to go to the previous location that was in what is now A Plate on Southport, I will return to this present location on a regular basis.

I’m torn between 3 or 4 stars, but I’ll bump it up since my friend told me too. It is small in there. When we walked in, I initially thought it was more of a carry out place since I only saw 2 tables for 2 in there, but there is a upstairs which is still not too big. We were the only ones up there. We ordered: Iced Coffee Freeze — It was ok, but started to get sweet at the end. Thai Fish Cake — These were ok, but smaller than we expected, but the sauce it came with was good. Chicken Satay Stick — I thought this was good. Very moist and juicy. The peanut sauce was good, but gets a bit sweet after awhile. Beef Satay Stick — I had a little of this and thought it was a bit tough. I’ll go with the chicken satay. Panang Curry with Chicken — I ordered this and thought it was pretty oily. Which we thought was a bit weird. Flavor was pretty good, but still missing something. Lime Chicken — My friend ordered this and I thought the chicken was breaded nicely, but not much of a lime taste and sometimes a bit too much mayo. We wished they gave us a bigger plate than what they put the rice on as there really wasn’t much room for anything else. It’s a nice place for a date, but not sure how we would feel if there was more people upstairs as it’s pretty small. Server was very nice and attentive. Food — 3 Ambiance — 4 Service — 5
