First time Unilocal review… but had to get on to review this place. Me and my girlfriend found this gem while she was in town to run the marathon… and this was hands down our best time in Chicago (and we went a lot of places)
Stumbled in on a Saturday afternoon… Initial service was mediocre, it was clear we were not regulars but still welcome to drink. Not super friendly immediately… which means you are in a good irish bar! After engaging some regulars and interacting more with Ivan the owner, we knew we found the bar we were looking for. Had good times and great conversation, so much so that we promised to be back the next day after the marathon.
We went back hoping we didn’t just get lucky and have a great one time experience… and sure enough we had even more fun the next night with regulars and out of towners alike. Walked in and said hi, Ivan was already making our drinks without us ordering before we even sat down. We didn’t have to order a drink the entire night, as soon as mine was looking done I had another one in front of me!
I love to see all the mixed reviews on here, I can tell the 5 star people are the same ones I’d gladly hang out with in a place like this. If you gave this place 1 star you are likely a douche bag and should just go across the street, you got bad service because Ivan probably doesn’t want you in his bar anyways.
Thanks Ivan and crew for a great time… This is a must stop anytime I am in Chicago from now on.

Stopped by for an after-​work drink, beer selection was solid, Carlsburg on draft is rare in the area and tasted great. Bar tenders were very friendly and welcoming. Nice to have a place in River north which appreciates the customers, will most certainly be back

Spent an hour there, waiting for my table at Lou Malnati’s. They have a nice choice of draft beers, friendly staff: we had a good time there.
However I found it a little disappointing, it was really dark inside…

Great beer menu, awesome service. Came on a Saturday evening. Restaurant was empty… apparently there is a popular to pizza place down the street?
Food was great. I have to agree with the other Unilocalers that the black bean burger is phenomenal.
Our server/​bartender was awesome. We sat on an empty patio and leisurely enjoyed our beers! We will be back.

Great stop here while we waited for our pizza at Lou Malnati’s down the street. Super-​friendly barkeep named Killian hooked us up with free Irish whiskey shots when we pointed out that the price advertised on the website for the Krombacher was $ 5, but the actual charged price is $ 7.
Note: It’s three weeks later now, and they still have the $ 5 price on their website. So … Do with this knowledge what you will.
We also had a 3 Floyds draft from Indiana (also $ 7,
… We had the Pride & Joy Mild Ale).
I’d love to come back and have a Scotch egg. And call them out on their outdated website in exchange for more free Jamesons.

I want to like this place. I do. Their black bean burger is BOMB. But unfortunately both times I’ve gone I’ve had the shittiest service, and I just can’t get around it.
Can’t in good conscious recommend this place.

I do not know what those 2 & 3 star reviews are all about. Ivan is the man ! Super friendly bar tender and top notch service. I did not try the food and sat at the bar so this reviews goes for the bar alone. The drinks are all standard fare, good selection of beers (this could be better, but then we all have our choices) By the end of the night he had all our names down even ! #winning

Went here for a Friday work lunch and ordered fish and chips immediately since it was a special. The food took forever to come out (probably around 30 minutes). There were only four of us in the party and we all got fish and chips. The fries were soggy and the fish was flavorless. Not worth the wait at all.

Extremely dismissive service. The waitress was annoyed that I wanted a separate tab. She told me she couldn’t do it. I told her if that was the case, I would order from the bar. She honestly rolled her eyes, repeatedly, and gossiped about me to another server, motioning to our table.
I get it, I was stubborn. I don’t share checks when drinking. Her dismissive response, and repeated obnoxious behavior was pathetic service. I was out with a party of 8 or so, and I spent $ 35. I think that’s enough for a separate check without the attitude.

The manager and the waitress was very rude to my friends and I. Her attitude was horrid. I would never recommend any of my circle of friends or business associates to go there. Worst service ever. Why is this place still open? Is it really in the hospitality business?

I been frequently trying out the pubs in the river north area and this bar always makes me feel right at home. Staff is always welcoming and always attentive to my needs. Ivan and gang really make ur blue days full of sunshine.

Great food and selection of beer. Lemon pepper fries are a must try. Outdoor patio is great when weather permits.

I went here for an after work drink with a couple of coworkers on a Monday night. I had one dirty martini along with the three other people I was with. The bartender, a big tall bald headed guy, decided to have a discussion with me about a football player and his fiancée. Apparently we had to different views on the situation. He then proceeded to take my half full martini and poured out directly in front of me and then proceeded to call me a nigger. That’s right folks. A NIGGER. Idk on what world that’s okay but not here in Chicago or in America. Just want everyone to know that. I WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER GO BACK! Ever!!!

She suggests that I eat true Chicago Deep dish (other than Paxti’s). OK. Here I am. We got to to Lou Malnati’s, order takeout, knowing we have a 45 minute wait.
She suggests that we go next door? I agree? Sorry, bar that bar is packed.
Instead, I say let’s walk. We will SEE THE PLACE. About a minute later, we see a Steelers Flag.

Nice little spot to have a drink before going to Lou Malnati’s. Friendly bar tender and cool vibe.
An extra star for their glassware; I ordered a Stella and it came in a Stella glass. The BF ordered a Lagunitas and it came in their glass. Very classy!

I tried to really like this bar. It was close to the restaurant that we went to for dinner and we got right in but it was completely dead and dark!
I can probably blame the 3 hour dinner for being a buzz-​kill and making us too tired to stay here but the bar was legit DEAD.
Our server was very nice and quick and that made me feel bad for the fact that we came in, drank one beer and left.
I’d come back to give it another shot though.

Found it via a Unilocal search, as I usually do.
It was a Sunday afternoon, so the bar was empty (is that usual for a Sunday?).
Anyway, who cares? We sat down and had a really good time, chatting to a great bartender (Ty??) — she was funny, helpful and let us sample a beer or two to help us decide. Thanks, Ty (spelling, sorry???) and we hope you managed to get tickets to see Chelsea Handler last night… she was brilliant!
So, a really nice little bar, good beer selection both on tap and in bottles — Boddingtons on tap means there’s a place for you in my heart.
