What a great neighborhood place! The beer is ice-cold always, and the best specials around. A nice mom and. pop place to hang out and not be bothered. It’s always filled with neighbors and city workers. free WiFi is a plus. Huge Blackhawks/Bears supporters. Great internet jukebox.

This bar is true Chicago. Located on a quiet residential streets of bungalows and wide lawns, Newark Nook is a bar in a 100+ year old home. I met some friends there on a Sunday night for drinks, so the place was pretty slow, but they still had some hot dog fixings out from an earlier buffet and hand-printed posters advertising a Christmas party at the bar the night before. The ladies’ bathroom has a remarkable selection of lotions and hairsprays(some look like they might be from the 80s). I give the Newark Nook 4 stars because it’s important that places like this exist. It’s family-owned, community-supported and has history and longevity. But, like the city I call home and love, it is flawed — sometimes even cringe-worthily so. The bartender was responsive — definitely not rude. But he certainly wasn’t welcoming, warm or friendly. Even though I’m a northsider and my two friends are Norwood Parkers born and bred, we felt like outsiders. The back walls are covered in framed photos of cops — mainly of cops in riot gear. Some of cops in riot gear clashing with protesters. My favorite was the photo of a line of cops with shields and batons and a caption reading«Welcome to Chicago. Now sit down and shut up.» So this probably isn’t the place to wear your«I Can’t Breathe» shirt or reminisce about your Occupy Chicago days. I hope Newark Nook sticks around but, like a lot of Chicago neighborhoods, it’s rooted in a time and place and attitude that should evolve.

They don’t make then like this anymore… a Chicago neighborhood tavern, actually in the middle of a quiet, affluent residential block. Great place for ladies who don’t wanna be bothered. Small place, good for games, whatever your sport. Service can be indifferent, but not offensive. Lots of Chicago firemen, but they are not hard to drink with.

An awesome neighborhood bar. The neighborhood here is filled with police officers and firefighters so this is inevitably a cop/firefighter bar. They have a good selection of beer and all the liquor you could possibly need. It’s an old school neighborhood dive bar — no food, cleanliness is okay. All in all, still a kick ass bar to watch the game. Plenty of tvs.

Great little neighborhood bar. I’ve on been here about three times played darts in the back & free popcorn! Also, ladies check out the bathroom about 8+ lotions & perfumes. Great service every time. A bucket of Millers just $ 10!

Call me old-fashioned, but I like smaller bars«where everyone knows your name». First visit tonight and you can tell this is the type of bar where you can become a regular. If you like to listen to rap or hip-hop, this is not your bar. The bar is full of country music and classic rock(with some 80s hairband to mix it up). The bartender/owner is very polite and attentive. My friend and I had a blast and will definitely be back. Notes: They take credit cards Free popcorn Jukebox and game system

Never going back. Bartender was rude, the place smelled, and my beer was old and skunked.

the beer specials are pretty good, but they will treat you like a second class citizen if you are not a member of a police department, how stupid is that, i stopped going there.

I used to live around the corner from this place years ago and was glad to have a cold one here. Neighborhood taverns like this are dying all over Chicagoland due to changing times. Keep them going by stopping in and buying a few rounds.

Love this bar, can’t wait to watch a bears game here. I feel like I’m on vacation. No douchebags, just normal local people, great drink specials, and awesome owners.

What a dying breed this place is. Which is too bad, because I love places like this! Like what? Read on my friends, read on… First and foremost, there isn’t some tool pressing ’ play next’ each time they go up to the jukebox… only to skip my song to play«Tonight’s gonna be a good night’ for the 45th time. Second, your beer will be refilled instantly and you will like it. You get to choose where you want to sit… and you’re left pushy or non-attentive servers… Definitely hit this place up if you’re in the neighborhood and show some support! Perfect place for the nights you want to go out but don’t want to see anyone. You know exactly what I mean.

If you’re looking for a quiet, out of the way not updated bar, this is it. This is NOT the kind of place for people who like to go out to be seen. This bar is on a residential street, and is probably meant for neighborhood folks. There is a sign on the inside of the exit door that states that you must respect the neighbors and leave quietly. This was a last stop for us before going home, and was a nice change from the loud college kids that were at the previous places. The crowd was mature, and laid back. I can’t say that I would make this a weekly stop, however, if I wanted to go out for a drink and not be hassled, I might go here. Sometimes, low key is just what I need.
