This place was awesome! I have passed by every day for months and never gave it a shot, then a friend of mine tried it and couldn’t stop raving. Glad I finally decided to order food from here — so fresh and flavors are spot on. My husband got a rice bowl with tuna sashimi and I got the miso sablefish. The fish was buttery and the kabocha croquettes that went with it were delicate and had a good flavor. No clue why this place is empty most days, we will try to eat in next time.

Went here for my birthday. Rolls were excellent. Everything was fresh. All the flavor a blended well and the rolls were creative. We had the Summer, Tsunami, Nami Maki and Double Trouble. Would recommend all of these. Summer was our favorite. They also gave me a flight of crème brûlées for my birthday! This place is one of the best sushi restaurants we have been to in Chicago.

In a city with plenty of sushi places this spot stands out. Very fresh maki and also many other interesting and tasty items on the menu. It has liquor license now too so you can order beer, wine and sake. Try the summer roll. A+.

I want to give 1000 stars if I can! I don’t think I can go to other Japanese restaurants anymore. All sushi was fresh and all the kitchen food that we ordered were just amazing. Can’t have these food anywhere else in Chicago I believe. Crazily good okonomiyaki and the best chicken karaage. Everyone should come here for the best Japanese food in Chicago!

We ate here on a recent Friday night. It was empty but there is clearly a lot of takeout /delivery going on, which is a good sign. Food was fine but the real star were the small plates — the brussels sprouts were AMAZING, shishito peppers and cauliflower were good, and I’d definitely come back to try the other stuff. One note of caution(and yes, I realize this is only one data point): this area must have some kind of gang problem — there were gangbangers on every corner of that intersection(Montrose & Wolcott). 5 – 6 guys loitering around, flashing gang signs. Finally, a police SUV drove up and parked in front. crowd dispersed. we paid the bill and left in a hurry. Not sure if I’d eat there again, although Nami is on Grubhub!

Surprisingly good! The restaurant is always kinda empty whenever I walk past but thankfully I went in and gave it a chance. I ordered the spicy sashimi roll. Very oishii! I like the each bite is full of thick succulent fresh fish. Very satisfying though price is slightly on the steep side.

Best sushi I have had in Chicago! Chef James Okono brings a new twist and amazing taste to his dishes. A must for sushi fanatics or folks who have never tried. this is the place ! Right next to the Montrose L stop… easy to get to.

Really liked this place. The prices are not the lowest but the rolls are packed with great quality fish and are not super rice-heavy so you definitely get your money’s worth. The snow white maki with the eggplant on top is amazing!

Sushi was pretty good. A little outside traditional but tasty. California has orange smelt on it with a drop of mayo. Got that and the Shrimp Tempura. AMAZING, fresh, and cooked perfectly. Unagi sauce on point. They now have a drink menu; Sapporo, bottles of wine(half off Tuesday-Thursday), and sakes

Was taking a class and my instructor asked what I was in the mood for during our break when sushi came to mind(it often does). So we checked out what was nearby and found this place. Neither one of us had been here, and it was empty(warning sign). The menu looked interesting, so I selected 2 rolls, she selected soup and a roll. Her soup was HUGE and very tasty. My rolls were delish and I was really satisfied. The prices were reasonable. I am a fan and would definitely come back.

This place is awesome, the sushi is tasty and fresh, the service is excellent, and the miso soup is the best miso I’ve ever had anywhere. Seriously. It’s so fresh and you can tell it’s made with love. It’s not prepackaged or stale tasting in any way, like you’ll find at many other places. We were asking the server about it and she said they start cooking the Japanese radish for the miso four hours ahead of time, which gives it a very complex flavor and texture. Anyway, I’m a huge fan of this place. I have gotten the summer roll each time and the bf gets the shrimp tempura roll and the salmon avocado rolls. So good! Everyone should come here!

Love the freshness the Nori were delicious and well presented and the freshness outstanding! We had a grilled sea bass(better is the French name: turbot mediterraneen) that was prepared very nicely with fresh thai herbs and that was amazing! Great warm welcome and BYOB! Have to go back soon!

I was born and raised in Japan, and sometime I have craving for drinking miso soup when having hard hangover. The morning after hard partying, my body needed miso soup and some light snack, so decided to stop by here. Long story short, their sushi is just ok. Most critical part is rice. It’s too loose and does not keep in same shape when picking it up. Usually it takes about 10 years to master how to make rice right. Keep it up The freshness of seafood passes my standard. Nothing special but taste right. We ordered amaze I but what we got is just simple ebi. They deep fried shrimp head, that’s a plus –miso soup was pretty good. Helped my hangover. No one drink it with spoon tho…

Why is this place always empty? The sushi is amazing and customer service is wonderful. I did take out and the sushi was still good, and even presented beautifully. Wish I could remember which rolls I got, but they were both great. Let’s fill this place up!

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the city. Everything’s fresh and the dishes have a very elegant presentation and they are all flavorful. Pro tip: start out with the King Nami plate. A little bit of everything. Delicious!

Cute new sushi place right off the brown line. Super easy to get to. BYOB. The prices were a little steep but the quality held up to match. The Saudis on the plates instead of directly on the tool was an interesting touch, I’m not sure I liked it but it was at least new and refreshing. It probably won’t be my new regular place but other than the menu prices I don’t really have anything bad to say.

Great service and decorum… impression was made in less than a minute, this is a keeper… fresh ingredients, very creative plating and they went out of their way to service my gurl who is glutton free. They made a special sauce to meet her needs for the shrimp and grits…
