Apparently the prices for pizza alter whether you’re eating in the restaurant or doing carry out… What? Isn’t that what a delivery fee is for?

Good, but not great. Smallish pizzas, interesting food, and very slow delivery. We ordered two pizzas and some cookies. The food was decent enough. The crust isn’t as good as they want you to believe. All in, dinner cost about $ 34 and took well over an hour and a half to arrive. I wouldn’t rush to order from here again. I like to try new things, and I’m sorry to report that this wasn’t one of the better one’s. The owner, I think, delivered my food in his Mercedes. First he told me how close we were, then he made excuses for why it took so long(I guess everything is fresh, becuase he told me so. Why this is a selling point is beyond me. Shouldn’t all food be fresh?) Underwhelmed.

This is my go-to pizza place around the corner now. I have never dined-in, just carried-out(or delivery if I’m SUPER lazy). But I really do love their thinner«mod crust» and they have never burnt one of my pies(can’t say the same for the others in our hood). But I also like that the«Construction Zone» portion of their menu lets you customize your own pizza and you can order ONLINE. So in summary if you live near the west loop and they deliver to you, you should definitely give them a try!

Huh. Based on the other reviews, I think this place must have suddenly changed quality, because I’m no Philistine, and I really liked it. We got the«Denny’s the Grand Slam» and the«The Weekly Special» both delivery. They were both VERY tasty, and while they weren’t the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life, they were among the most solid delivery I’ve had. It came pretty quickly and was hot, and had tons of flavor. We’re going to start ordering from here fairly frequently — I really enjoyed it.

MOD is one of the few places that delivers in our neighborhood, and we ordered two pizzas recently. The delivery arrived before expected, which was great. The«Denny’s Grand Slam» was loaded with pepperoni, sausage, and pancetta; the«I Love Cheese» had 5 cheeses but a disappointingly small amount of chopped basil that was unevenly distributed over the top. My main disappointment with this place is that I think they overhype the sourdough crust; I find it crispy but flavorless. There’s nothing especially wrong with the crust, but I think it does them a disservice to draw attention to something so meh.

My boyfriend lives down the street from this place and we had been meaning to try it out. It was a random evening and there were very few people in there. It’s byob, so we had brought in our 6-pack of beer, which the waitress put in the front fridge for us. The pizza was tasteless. We laughed and said it was worse than frozen pizza you buy at the grocery store, and later realized it was true. She didn’t check on us to see if we wanted more of our own beer — which was annoying. After we paid, she didn’t even bring our beer back to us. I saw it in the front fridge on our way out, and I just grabbed it myself. The ONLY good thing about this place is that they played random old school music… and I liked that.

I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody! Myself and one other couple were the ONLY people there… should’ve given us a good idea of what to expect. I ordered spinach pasta which the waiter said they were ALLOUTOF… well explain this… you are an italian restaurant… but you have NO pasta and NO customers? Where’s the pasta? I ordered something else and asked specifically for no cheese, and it came out with cheese. Just an overall bad experience. The food was bad, the service was fine. Would NOT go back.

Oh, MOD, you have pissed my coworkers and I off… I order from here quite a bit — but for lunch delivery. They are always fast and the food is always hot. The one time we decide to go there for lunch, we never got our food. When we walked into MOD, there was a table for 30 already set up. They said they had a party, and when we asked if they were still open to the public, they said yes. Our party of 6 sat down. After being there for 20 minutes, receiving our drinks, and ordering, the waitress informed us that it would be about 40 minutes until we got our food because of the party. When we asked why they did not tell us that in the beginning, she gave us no response. We had to leave to go back to our office — a full 50 minutes after being there. In fact, it took 20 minutes after we got back until our food was delivered.(My company is only 1 block away.) Their food is ok. I have had the Filomena pizza several times and has always been good. Their salads and sandwiches are fine. But after this, it’s left a bad taste in my mouth.

I thought the crust was excellent. The style of pizza is different than the norm so maybe that is why some did not like it. We happened to go there when they unveiled their Diablo pizza which was excellent if you like it spicy. The balsamic grilled calamari was excellent too. Can’t wait to eat the leftovers!

Being one of the few restaurants in this area of West Loop and BYOB, it has become a staple in our repertoire. I wouldn’t call it a destination pizza place unless you are looking for BYOB, but it is a solid restaurant. Pizza is very competitive and passionate discussion. You aren’t going to hear people raving about MOD as a pizza place you HAVE to try, but you also won’t hear people complaining about the pizza or the service. If you are looking for a BYOB pizza joint or just in the area, there will always be a table for you at MOD.

Good Pizza, Bad Chicken and other stuff. The thin-crust pizza has a nice firm crust and the cheese on it is high quality. The sauce tastes good, and the toppings are generous. Not really a true«New York Style» thin crust, but still a very good crust. Tonight though, my girlfriend and I thought we’d try some of the other things on their menu, which sounded good. Unfortunately, they were all pretty bad. We had the broasted chicken, which turned out to be really, really salty to the point where each bite felt like a spoonful of salt. We could only finish 3.5 pieces between the two of us. We had the«grilled vegetables», which seemed more like sauteed pizza toppings(onion, pepper, and mushroom). The menu highly recommended the macaroni and cheese, which we also tried. It turned out to be watery with clumps of cheese(parmesan?). The whole meal left us feeling really ill. We think that this place proves that you should only order pizza from a pizza place.

We had to take everyone for a work team lunch recently, and a friend of mine recommended MOD Pizza. He is quite a pizza snob, so I suggested we go there. The service from the kitchen was slow. It took longer than it should have to get our appetizers, and definitely longer than it should have to get our pizza once the appetizers were gone. The service otherwise was fine and courteous, which was good, since we were the only people in the restaurant. I had the«Not Enough Garlic for Annie» pizza, which featured sauteed mushrooms, goat cheese and of course, garlic, on a white pizza. I thought it was delicious. The crust was nice, though I can’t say it was as unique as I expected it to be given the hype and the reviews. It was a good, medium flaky crust. I also tried the«Weekley Special» [sic] pizza, and that one was cooked just a little too long for my taste, and the crust was thinner, maybe a bit more traditional. I preferred my pizza by far. The crust should have been more consistent. I liked MOD pizza, and will return without a doubt, but I can see they still have some kinks to work out, not the least of which is getting people in the door, but they also need to speed up the kitchen. One last note… MOD is BYOB, and has a $ 5 corkage fee per table.

Two listings for this place with an equal number of reviews! Consolidate Unilocal! Alright I had been meaning to try this place for awhile so we went in on a weekday around 1:30pm. The place was dead. Cool atmosphere. Pretty decent pizza. Service was kind of eh… for as empty as it was we waiting a long time for drink refills. There is a weird vibe about it that I can’t put my finger on. Definitely a nice thin crust alternative to the deep dish sea that is Chicago.

I tried delivery from Mod the other day as it is close to my apartment. I heard they specialize in thin crust and that is my fave. I ordered the whole wheat thin crust. The pepperoni was really good. The crust was crispy and thin. It was pretty solid delivery. I bet it is even better inside the restaurant fresh.

[Reminder — 3 stars is STILL a good rating to get] Ok, time to update the review! I kind of blasted them in my /their first review — but frankly, when the pizza just doesn’t show up and the first one is burnt, they deserved to be blasted. So we went back here on Sunday to give it another go. The experience was much better. Namely, our pizza arrived and it wasn’t burnt. We ordered the Weekly Special(which despite its name I don’t think it changes) and a deep dish pepperoni. This restaurant claims«It’s the Crust» as their key point of differentiation. I can agree that their crust is different. If you go here expecting it to be like the others, you’ll be surprised. For the most part, I liked the crust. Not something I would want all the time when I order pizza, but it’s still nice to have something different. It has a very corn-filled taste to it. However, the tomato sauce is the star and the pepperoni was fantastic. Having a taste of their pepperoni let’s you know that yes, there is indeed a difference between pepperoni. This ain’t your granma’s pepperoni. Or hey, maybe it is if you’ve got an Italian granma with taste! Anyhoo… so I’ll be getting something different than the non-changing Weekly Special pizza. It was good and I liked the thin crust. But it was unmemorable. I added red peppers and parm cheese and salt — doing so is highly unusual for me. So yea, we’ll be back here.

First of all, it annoys me that there are two listings for Mod and MOD. Seriously Unilocal? I live like a block away so I really, REALLY wanted this to be good. I think it is good but not like holy hell, we finally have an awesome pizza place in the west loop that people from LAKEVIEW will want to travel all the way here to try! Nope, not that good Mod. Sorry. I was also annoyed at the multiple«Grand Opening» dates that I had heard about which came and went and then apparently, with little fanfare(or maybe lots of fanfare that I missed) it was open. We went with a bottle of wine in hand and empty tummies. We tried basically everything that people had suggested… calamari appetizer was great. Maybe too much calamari if that’s possible? The balsamic vinegar was good, not soupy like someone else said. Oh I got ahead of myself. The guy did open our bottle of wine and then poured it into plastic water glasses that were spotty like they had some weak ass detergent. If you’re going to give me plastic glasses for my wine, that’s fine but we can splurge on the Cascade Complete, no? We ordered two pizzas… one thin, one chicago style. Thin we got the I love cheese which is appropriately titled because you better love cheese. We thought of it more like an appetizer pizza because the lack of sauce made it a little dry and kind of like really awesome garlic bread. Just too much of it. The thick crust was good too, didn’t come in a pan like most places so it was slightly crumbly but still yummy. The crust is good, very corn-mealy which must be their secret. It is crumbly and fairly light, I was a fan. Fiancé not so much. Whatever he likes Dominos. Also, side note, reheated the next day, like HEAVEN. I LOVE reheated pizza. We got the tiramisu dessert. That was great but I am a dessert person and I don’t care that it was not a traditional tiramisu. They probably should change the name of it to avoid confusion but I would order it again and again if they called it coffee soaked cake on a plate. A plastic plate. With spots. Last side note, the music is VERY weird. I think they play covers of all of the songs instead of the actual recordings by the original artists. And we did hear one song twice and more than one showtune. My advice, order out. But DOORDER! I want this place to stay =)

I’ve waited until I experienced this place a few times before writing my review. When they first opened, they, like any other new restaurant had some kinks to work out so I won’t hold that against them. Besides, the décor is rather warm and inviting(except for those over-sized refrigerators at the entrance with the condiments) However, we were still leery to try it for the first time because while perusing over the menu outside of the establishment, this guy(who is either the chef or one of the owners) comes out and starts spitting off about how«fresh» everything is. Seriously, I didn’t use the word«fresh» for a few weeks because of his excessive ranting. When he finally decided to go away, we gave it a shot anyways and ordered a thin crust pizza. It was actually really delicious. The crust wasn’t anything to write home about, but its a huge improvement from the competition around the neighborhood. After having the pizza one additional time, we decided that we needed to switch things up a bit and order an entrée or two. So we had the hand cranked fettucini and the tuxedo delight(with sun dried tomatoes, eggplant, and goat cheese). This just killed it for me. I don’t’ know how their other entrees are but I just wasn’t impressed by these dishes. Maybe I was expecting more since the guy my first time there was raving about«freshness». Granted, it IS still better than eating bar food yet AGAIN in the West Loop. I personally, will just stick with the pizza. They are ready pretty fast and are reasonably priced. Overall, I’m glad the West Loop finally has a cozy pizza joint.

Living right around the corner from MOD, the pizza loving Gs highly anticipated a new pizza joint in the West Loop. Sunday afternoon we did carryout. We got three pizzas and a salad for $ 35. That’s a pretty good deal, and yes we expected to have many leftovers. The pizzas are 12″, so when hungry you can easily put one away by yourself. We got the Engine 103, the Veg out and the Grand Slam. I expected more from the much hyped crust. It wasn’t bad, just nothing special. I don’t know if it was hand tossed or cooked in a brick oven, but it was pretty basic. The sausage and the tomato sauce were excellent and made things a lot better. We requested light cheeses on two pies(hers of course) and still got a ton of cheese. This is a typical request of my wife and it always perplexes me why places would still go heavy handed with their most expensive topping. The GS was also lacking the pancetta, which is a major oversight considering there are only three toppings. The salad was great and had a lot of blue cheese and tasty proscuitto, which only made me think of how good that pancetta might have been. Overall MOD was good and I want to give them the chance to work things out. But, they’ve got some kinks to work out before they are a go to pizzeria for us. Convenience only carries you so far.

It saddens me to only give this place 2 stars. My husband and I have been looking forward to Mod opening ever since we saw the signs in the window a few months ago. BYOB pizza right down the street… perfect! Well we tried it last night and were both pretty disappointed. I’ll start with the food… we had the grilled calamari which was damn tasty although it was swimming in balsamic. The pizza wasn’t terrible but when they say it’s all about the crust I’m not sure what they mean. The crust was the most blah part about it. The homemade sausage was good. The place itself isn’t very«inviting». It doesn’t really scream pizza place. There are aluminum walls with chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling. It just didn’t have any«ambience». The service was pretty terrible. Our server had to come back and ask us again what we ordered for both the app and the pizza. Our calamari was set down and no one bothered to give us silverware or napkins, I had to flag someone down for that. At the end of the meal our server pretty much just dropped our bill on the table as he walked by. I don’t even get a «thanks have a good night»? That’s fine, you get a crappy tip then. I may do carry out from here but I don’t think I’ll be back to dine in.

Moving to new areas, means new places to explore. After a long day I was tired. I moved in to a new area today and as we all know moving sucks. I think if you don’t agree, you might be in to S & M… maybe. Being weary and well beaten, I looked to have some delivery. I looked to MOD. I saw earlier on an UrbanDaddy newsletter that they were opening close to my hood. Hmmm… perfect opportunity. I arrive. They open. Could a more perfect match be made? I ordered two of their specialty pizza, one was their Grand Slam,(pepperoni, pancetta, tomatoes… heaven), and their Mi Piace Il Formaggio,(fontina, goat, ricotta, Romano, basil and white cheese sauce). Now here is the catch. The crust is sourdough crust, but really, the Grand Slam over powered any of the tang of the sourdough, but to be honest, with those toppings for some reason I didn’t mind. The slightly chewy and crispy crusty was pretty good, not amazing, nothing original. The Grand was pretty amazing. It took pretty much all of my resistance to not inhale all of that pizza. The Il Formaggio, was pretty good too. Perhaps I was just craving meat. What I wasn’t craving was an over hour wait for my pizza. However when the delivery guy showed up there was no charge for my pizzas because of my extended wait. How could I say no? Its new, they have kinks and problems to work out. I understood and I appreciate their gesture. Will I return. Sure! Its in my new hood!
