we rented Lanigan’s new private room for our baby’s first birthday party recently. They provided us the perfect environment and service. It was a last-minute venue changes due to the weather. The team was so accomodating. The room was beautiful!

Unless you are a regular here than the staff and the other guests at the bar do not treat you well. Do yourself a favor and go to another bar down the street.

Been my favorite bar for the last few years and sadly Will not be returning after the other nite. The bar its self is nice and the bar tenders are all good guys but what turned me off was I was sitting at the bar having a beer and a kid who looked to be under age walked in, I’m not sure sure if he was in or not. I see this happen at bars all the time and I could really care less the age as long as they don’t start any trouble. I went out side to have a smoke and the kid followed me out and asked to bum a cigarette so I gave him one. A little while later I’m sitting at the bar and he comes over and asked to see my I’d I said no because he didn’t work there and I’m well above the legal age. He then tried acting hard with me and stated that I had to leave because while smoking out side I wasn’t fifteen feet away from the door, like that really matters at this bar anyways lol. I tried to reason with him and politely told him to f off. At witch point he said his name is Steve finerty and his uncle Is the bar owner. I really wasn’t looking for a fight this particular night and I was with about ten other guys, we paid our tabs and left. There seems to be some family issues going on there now and its bad for business because that’s a few regulars who will not be back. The reason I liked this bar was for the great drink specials but I’m not cheap I’ll take my business to hippos or blackthorn which are both a block away from lanigans.

Good and friendly place. Karaōke in Friday nights used to be great, but everyone in the backroom anymore so that the place fills with smoke. It was great when I could breathe, but that’s probably not happening again for a while.

The last time I was in here all I kept thinking was«Can someone tell them that the giant screen playing project runway or some other weird fashion show over and over is killing my buzz? I know that the Notre Dame Game was being projected there, but it ended hours ago and no one changed the channel.» This is not the first time that the giant tv screen has bothered me before. It takes away from the ambiance and charm that this place might potentially have. And the bright lighting never helps either! These are my only two real beefs with this place. But other than that this place is your average inexpensive south side bar full of blood shot eyed neighborhood Dads drinking with their buds. There is a pool table and dart board in the back. Its a dive, but so is everywhere else. It’s an Irish pub no doubt!

Loved it. I have friends who live quite nearby Lanigan’s, I was ‘out south’, dropped in on them and landed here, eventually. Cute little hidden gem of a place. Great staff, nice non-macho-nor-slutty-nor-dufus customers as far as I could tell, the usual cheapish southside prices; had low-key fun(check out the paneled pool table room), maybe more cuz of my friends or being a lil bombed, but was impressed either way. Cool neighborhood, too. I’d definitely return.

I was here after the Southside Irish parade and seeing as it’s been cancelled I am now able to sleep at night. I don’t remember much about being here, sorry it was a long day of «festivities»… but I can assure you we had a great time. I do remember however that it wasn’t jam packed with people and that the servers weren’t as angry with us for being so «happy.» It’s a little Irish bar somewhat off the beaten path that is Western Ave., and is it’s appeal for me. If you don’t like it, you can always walk about 50 feet to Corrigan’s for a similar effect… **Newsflash, 99 percent of bars on the Southside are Irish. SO, if that is a problem… go North! :)

I recently spent a real bender of a weekend in Mt. Greenwood. Shan’t trouble you with details, these things just happen. People of vague Irish descent(like myself) are absolutely insufferable. We’re always going on and on about how many shillelaghs we own, which county our dear aul gran came from, how many of our family members were carried off by the bottle… blah-bitty-McBlah-blah-blah…hiccup. You wanna know why we’re so obsessed with telling everyone how Irish we are? Lean in and I’ll tell you a wee secret(sorry about the whiskey breath)… It’s because it’s a lot more glamorous than just being like, «Yes, I’m an alcoholic.» Aah cultural stereotypes. Stubborn, industrious Germans. Boisterous, passionate Italians. Needy, high maintenance — [erupts into coughing fit]…you know where I’m headed. Personally I have no shame in wrapping my character flaws up in the Irish tricolor. And evidently the good folks at Lanigans are quite happy to pursue cirrhosis right alongside me. Here’s how you know you’re in a proper Irish pub 1. You’re not in Wrigleyville. 2. There’s a raffle going. Probably to benefit someone’s mam who has a nasty, ingrown toenail. If you enter, you might win a bottle of Tullamore Dew! 3. The nice old gents to either side of you are trying to stave off the delirium tremens. All you can think to yourself is «Somebody get this man a drink! He’s old!» 4. There’s singing. Loud and off key… and no Neil Diamond either. Feck off. 5. The barkeep is being worked to the bone but she is making an absolute killing so no matter. And she’s NOT some 20-something broad wearing a racer-back«Kiss Me I’m Irish» tank either. So Lanigans is probably one of the better if not The Best Irish Pub in the Chicagoland area(I’ve still got Celtic Crossings in mind for this illustrious title as well). Just don’t come here unless you have a bed to fall into within spitting distance or a friend who’s cool with you booting all over the interrior of their ride on the way home. Erin go barf.

I love neighborhood pubs if just for the fact that they represent the neighborhood that they are in. It’s a great way to see and experience parts of the city that are not normally on my «beaten path» so they become a destination for me or a place to meet up with friends. On a recent Sunday night, I had the opportunity to stop into Lanigan’s Irish Pub in Mount Greenwood. I sat at the bar and after having the locals check me out(it’s always funny to me how the regulars have to size up the new folks) sipped my beer and looked around. Having spent some time in Ireland, I’m not sure I’d call this a typical Irish bar but it had most of the elements that they are known for. Friendly people, a bartender, who, while harried, made sure that the beers/shots kept flowing, coupled with a variety of people from the neighborhood just catching up after a Bears game. We even had one woman who had won a Bears pool that day offer to buy us a round of drinks! Now how friendly is that? But the real treat of the evening was a group of local musicians who gathered at one end of the pub on this night, and began to play Irish music and to sing Irish songs. The lilting combination of flute, accordion, violin, hand drum, and bagpipes had me smiling and tapping my foot along to the beat. How fun to find myself in the middle of all of that? And hats off to the one guy who sang a song a capella with at least 7 verses who made me think for a minute that I was actually in County Kilkenny, Ireland where I experienced a similar evening not so long ago. Not sure what the rest of the week looks like at this place, but for me– Sunday nights after 10 when the music and Guinness flow freely holds a special place in my heart!

Having lived in Chicago almost a year, I felt it was high time to really start seeing other parts of the city as I have covered a good portion of the North, Loop, and West Side. I just love getting out of my neighborhood and in the 3rd largest city in the country anyone who doesn’t is selling themselves short on some wonder places and people. But the south side has been on my to do list… I hear about the southside, Chicago accents, and Irish population, but haven’t experienced that in any depth until I went to Lannigans in Mount Greenwood. Here I was able to hear some of the accent and partake of the Irish flavor that made some of what this city is today. The bar is quaint in the sense that there isn’t anything special décor wise and the place was very bright lighting wise… it kind of felt almost like closing time than a bar, but then again, I’ve been to London, not Ireland, so perhaps that is how they are lighted over there? Regardless, folks are friendly, though everyone looked the moment I walked into the room, I came from a small town in the south, so I understand that type of reaction when entering a neighborhood bar. As should be in this side of town, plenty of White Sox items abounded, as they should and drinks were very affordable. The bar is not big by any standard and there is a pool table in the back. A few TVs allow for watching a game. But after 10pm is when it gets interesting… this particular Sunday night a circle of folks set up in a corner of the seating area and began playing and singing Irish tunes… I felt as if I was in a pub somewhere in Ireland as it was just great music. Cheap drinks… great Irish music(free)…friendly folks… makes for a great little southside bar.

Don’t let the exterior fool you, Lannigan’s is pure gold. Typical Irish bar; Guiness and whiskey reign. If there’s a wait for your drinks, you may get siddled up with the bar corner drunk who’ll chat you up his journeys in the army in the 50s/60s/70s(always changes). Kareoke is on fridays at 9pm-2am. Always a good time, the DJ can actually sing and is very responsive to requests. I haven’t made an appearance for quite some time, but back in my day, Weezer’s ‘say it ain’t so’ was always the closer. Come on down, put your arm on someone’s shoulder and have a good time. well worth the visit.

To start with I’ve been coming to this bar for years and never knew that it was actually Jeremy Lanigan’s. Unilocal looked it up and that is the official title for it, but signs on the street will just say Lanigan’s pub. This place is the typical southside irish pub(and I mean that in a good way). On a typical weekend the crowd has a good mix of locals and those straight from Ireland. It can get tight as there isn’t much space, but I have never had to walk to the bar more than twice and not have the bartender know my order. It might not be the place were you want to stay all night but it is worth the stop in at some point on your evening.
