Went to this place with my friend and our sons. We were starting our summer taco tour and the Al Pastor brought us here. We were very happy with our choice. BUT… While the Al Pastor was very good, the Lomo Encebollardo or Ribeye and grilled onion blew it away. I was really glad I ate it last because the flavor lingered slightly in my mouth for a bit. But of course, while waiting for our order, a regular there told me the carne aside was the«out of this world» so it looks like we will be heading back for that. And more ribeye.

I really liked this place. It was not too far from the place we are staying at. It is located right next to Walgreens. It is a hole in the wall place, but once you get inside it is totally different. The first thing I noticed was the Mexican music that was blaring out from the speakers. I was not annoyed by it, I actually enjoyed the music. I loved all the Mexican food items on the menu, but I chose the carne asada burrito and torta with an elote on the side. I do not think I talked at all while I was eating my meal. It was so good!

I can be pretty judgey when it comes to Mexican food(I’m Mexican; c’mon now). If you don’t have horchata, you’re on my sh*t list. No lengua, no te amo mucho. Refried beans that look like a wet fart, no bueno. My husband was the first to tell me about L’Patron. I didn’t fully trust his opinion.(His idea of good Mexican when we first met was Las Palmas and Los Burritos Tapitos. Woof.) But then some other friends raved about it, so I was more willing to give it a go. I went with them on a Sunday with high expectations. The place itself doesn’t look like much, but I always find those are the best kinds of places. I ordered three lengua tacos and an horchata. I really wanted some elote, but I didn’t want to overdo it. My husband, on the other hand, threw caution to the wind and got a giant burrito and two tacos. We were lucky to get a table, as it’s usually bumpin’, but wasn’t particularly busy yet when we went. We only waited about 10 minutes for our food. What a generous portion of taco. My tacos were loaded with lengua — so much so that the tortillas were busting at the seams — and I like it that way. You really get some bang for your buck. Knocked off some of the cilantro since there was way too much on it. The tacos were delicious. Every bite was juicy and delightfully messy. I tried some of my friend’s elote(in a cup) and it was awesomely good and a tidier option than eating it off the cob, so that was appreciated. When we were done, we were in a serious taco coma, but it was worth it. Tips: –It’s cash only, so come prepared. –If you plan to order a sh*t ton, you can open a «taco tab.» That’s dangerous. –Wear sweatpants. Don’t punish your jeans. They didn’t ask for this.

BESTMEXICANAROUND I came here after the farmers market and was not disappointed. Heads up-it’s cash only. While this place seems like a hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint and the décor is certainly nothing special, the food can only be described as legendary. I went with the pastor and lomo tacos-AMAZING!!! The meat was cooked absolutely perfect, and the onion, cilantro, and pineapple complemented the meat perfectly rather than overwhelming it. I also ordered a side of elote, but chose to get the chili powder on the side and add it myself, fearing it would be too spicy. Elote was creamy and had SO much flavor, even without the chili powder. Two tacos and the elote was the perfect amount for lunch, so I would suggest 3 tacos if you’re not getting a side. My friend also got the chorizo torta and had nothing but good things to say, and it was a ton of food. All of the food was so well priced and you get tons. If you’re in Logan Square, you HAVE to go here. Yes. You have to.

Five SOLID stars for this place. BEST Mexican I’ve had in the city, by far! Homemade tortillas, really great quality meat, and salsas are prepared to perfection. Can’t praise this place enough! IMPORTANT: –Cash Only(atm right next door at Walgreens)

Best shrimp burrito I have ever had! They only take cash and they are always super busy, but honestly it’s worth it. The food is fresh and so tasty! I can’t wait to go back

1st timer here & it was pretty good!!! Ordered a Carne asada torta, shrimp taco, &2 steak tacos. PISSED I didn’t see the ribeye on the menu! Anywho, we dined in & ate. Ordering & picking up can be confusing because the line was long and a small space. The cashier who took the order was nice. They call your name when the order is ready which is nice. Shrimp taco was my least fave. I just don’t dig shrimp as a taco, but that’s just me. Steak tacos were good, I think they put lime juice in the seasoning which I could’ve done w/out that flavoring. My steak torta was DELICIOUS!!! I loved the bread. It was so good I ordered 1 to go & slammed half in the car on my ride home! Good experience. I’d go back!

Legit. Legit. LEGIT. My friends call this their go-to place in Chicago and now I know why. Delicious, relatively inexpensive, friendly, casual. Everything you want and need at a go-to place. I wanted to try EVERYTHING on their menu but there’s only so much space in my stomach so I order just enough to not put myself in a food coma. — Al pasteur taco: Probably my favorite meat that I tried. Sweet and savory, great char on the meat, and nice chunks of pineapple. — Pablano pepper taco: It was good, slightly disappointing though. The homemade tacos were still great. — Ribeye and onion burrito: What a bomb burrito. Loaded with meat, beans, greens, and next-level when mixed with their homemade salsa roja. MMMM. — Guac and chips: Their guac is interesting because they put craisins in there. Weird at first, still a bit weird in the end. But definitely a good try. You need to go. I need to go. Let’s meet up at L’Patron and experience a part of life that should not be missed. Don’t forget to bring your cash, cash only y’all.

The meatiest tacos and burritos that I’ve ever experienced. 7 tacos is what I require at Big and Little but here at LPatron, 4 tacos fully satisfy my appetite. I love the lomo(rib eye), the carne asada, the pastor(pork with pineapple chunks) and fish tacos. The shrimp taco is just ok because there are really just two shrimp which isn’t a great deal. The carne asada burrito is so meaty — it’s probably the best burrito I’ve had. The lomo burrito with the Carmelized onions can get a little to messy with the excess juices. The guacamole with cranberries on top — how healthy and unique(did the chef spend some time on the East coast?). The place is no nonsense and people are eating and moving on very quickly. The place is pretty clean considering the number of people coming in. The street parking is a little tough but it’s BYOB and very much worth the inconvenience. If you look across the street you’ll see Popeyes chicken and IHOP and that’ll remind you of how you use to eat when you were in high school or college. You’ll be glad that you’re stepping into L’Patron.

7 of us hit this place up on a Wednesday night and luckily we were able to put three tables together to accommodate all of us. We got there just in time too, because that place filled up quick! Let me just start off by letting you guys know that their salsa is guzzle worthy. Just saying. For my meal, I started off with«El Gringo», which to my surprise, came with a side of beans and rice. It’s pretty much a gordita filled with carne asada and chihuahua cheese. I felt like they could have cut up the meat a little bit more. I could have stopped right there, but no, I had to go and get a «Poblano Rajas» taco — roasted poblano peppers, onions and cheese. MYFAVORITE! So by this point, I’m beyond full(they really do give you a lot of food for the price) but hold your horses, I just had to go and order an elote in a cup. Ugghhh. It was tasty but I wouldn’t order it again… I’ve had better. I just remembered that we also ordered guacamole! lol It came with cranberries, which was actually really good, but the guacamole needed a little more salt. I was told by my sister that they’re known for their burritos, well, wtf, I got tacos. So if I were ever in the area I would try a burrito or maybe a plain carne asada taco, besides that I wouldn’t make a special trip. L’Patron is tasty but I feel like it didn’t live up to the hype. BTW, CASHONLY!

Came here with my roommate a couple of days ago for dinner, as I just moved to the neighborhood and have heard great things in the past. The place is decent sized, but always packed with either families eating there or people getting take out. It is a nice small shop, but is at the same time large enough to have a line sometimes that is almost out the door. I got two of the famous carne asado tacos that this place is apparently known for. The tortillas are great and made with fresh corn. The steak, though was high quality, was super salty. I mean really salty. That is my biggest complaint of the place. If they cut back on the salt, it would be amazingness without a doubt. The homemade red and green salsas are also amazing. Also, prices are good and are cash only.

My favorite thing here was the carne asada(steak) tacos. My second favorite was the guacamole with dried cranberries. Who would’ve thought dried fruit can dramatically change the flavor of something? The fish taco was garnished with a flavorful slaw and spicy pico de gallo. The al pastor(pork) taco was sweet, but I liked the pineapple flavor. It seems people either love the al pastor or hate it here, so it probably depends on your personal preference, but I like L’Patron’s take on al pastor. I enjoyed the elote and horchata, but mostly because they HAVE these items, not necessarily because they stood out to me in any way. It does seem rare that a tacqueria can do tacos, guacamole, elotes, AND horchata well. L’Patron did it all well. This spot is ca$h only, BYOB, and it’s cheap eats. For what we paid, I think we got a lot of food, and a lot of good quality food. There is a decent amount of seating, and one employee was nice enough to push together some tables for our big group. The line to order was constantly long, although it wasn’t an agonizing wait. L’Patron is very good, but a little overrated. I live in an area densely populated by authentic taco eateries, so while L’Patron was very good, I missed out on what the hype is all about. Thirsty? Lost Lake is an excellent tiki bar only about 3 blocks away. It’s a good combination if you’re heading to L’Patron and you’re not ready to go home yet.

Everything here is delicious. And Cheap. and Delicious. Quite honestly may be the best traditional tacos and burritos I have had here in Chicago, and are a good run for the money on mexican food anywhere. Tried the Carne Asada + Lengua burrito, and a Fish taco, and both of them really hit the spot. Amazingly tender Carne Asada, crispy fish with a flavorful aioli, Fresh avocado, plenty of food for your money. Massive burrito only runs around $ 6, while the tacos are all around $ 2.50. Could tell that even things like their lettuce and tomato were pretty fresh too. We also got two orders of guac, which was fantastic as well. They throw in some dried cherries on top of it, which might make you do a double take, but it actually adds a little something to it that is on point. The salsas might even just be as good as the guac, cus they have a house red and green salsa that has just enough of a kick, and tastes good on everything. As if everything wasn’t already good enough.

We had a fun little Cali meet-up, where a bunch of girls who are originally from California met up for some legit tacos in Chicago. We know our share of good tacos, so I knew that I had to share this place with them! All of the meat is flavorful, juicy and tender… never overcooked or dried out. Always made to order. A few tips: Ask for a side of the free pickled veggies — comes with pickled carrots, jalapenos, onions and garlic. You’re in luck if you get a whole bulb of garlic! I did once, and I felt like I wont the lotto. And I never win anything. It’s an extra dollar or two, but you can get a handmade tortilla for your taco. Perfection! They’re a little thicker than your usual tortilla, so expect to be a little more full than usual. Get both the green and red sauce and you can take it to your table to douse your tacos or whatever as much as you want.

I have eaten here a few times but first time actually eating in the restaurant. First off this place is usually busy with a line out the door. Luckily today I didn’t have to wait. I went with a buddy and it was his first time here. I ordered a gringa and a steak taco. The gringa was good except after I ate the taco, I was getting full lol. The gringa is made with pastor and melted cheese. It was really good and made with their home made tortilla. The steak taco was really good. Freshly grilled steak was flavorful! I enjoyed both. My buddy ordered the steak burrito and he said he enjoyed it very much. He said he would love to go back to eat. I have had the vegetarian torta and tacos before for lent and that was very good as well.

The food: 4⁄5. I’ve only had their tacos and they are consistently delicious. Best tacos in Chicago? Probably not, but the best Logan square has to offer. The service: 4⁄5. Never ate there, but the takeout if usually very fast. Overall: 4⁄5. A no frills Mexican spot that serves good tacos.

12:42 just missed the long line. Poblano tacos, ribeye taco, Cameron taco on homemade tortilla with side of rice and beans, to add to my ever growing food belly, will power Susan will power. . Smells great, sweet cashier. only Limited parking. Excellent flavor packed with Caramelized onions in ribeye and poblano taco. A little to greasy the food was great but afterwards I felt a little queasy from the grease. I will order one homemade tortilla next time they are corn very tasty but a little heavy. The ratio of meat to vegetable worked out nicely. Not as much meat as they show in pictures but was very tasty. I will come back and try other things.

L’ Patron on Diversey just west of California & Kennedy exit. How do you say amazing food. I went there yesterday with my sister around lunch and just beat the lunch crowd. I ordered a total of 5 tacos, 3 for dining in and 2 to carry out for my wifey at home. I heard they also have homemade tortillas so I got them on all 5 tacos. I didn’t know they charged $.80/piece extra for them. They were good and worth trying, but I wish I only got it on one of the homemade tortillas. I got 3 of the homemade tortillas, but they were really thick and very filling. 1) Camaron topped with roasted Serrano aloli dressed cabbage and fresh pico de gallo(delicious) 2) Al Pastor/marinated pork w/white onions diced, caramelized onions and green onions chopped fine. 3) Ribeye and caramelized onion(where’s the meat). In spite of not having very much ribeye in the taco and having it smothered by a ton of caramelized onions the flavor was amazing. I also ordered a horchata that was very tasty and served as a nice way to clear my palette between the different tacos. I will definitely be back to try some of the other items. Their Tortas and burritos look amazing The food is very reasonably priced and very good

Holy cow! This place is awesome. Came here on a Saturday night, there was a line, but it was so worth the wait! You place your order at the counter, either for to-go or to eat there. If it’s to-go, you wait up front around the counter for them to cook it and they’ll call your name when it’s ready. If it’s for there, you can find a seat and they’ll bring it to you(at least that’s what it looked like. We ordered to-go). I was really craving a burrito, so my husband and I came here for a bite. The steak in my steak burrito(for under $ 6!!!) tasted like steak you’d get in a steakhouse. I was so so so happy. I’m practically drooling just thinking about it right now. It was, hands down, the best burrito I’ve ever had in my life. My husband got a shrimp taco and a steak taco and, again, the steak tasted like steakhouse steak. The shrimp taco was great as well. He also tried an apple soda, which I was not a fan of, but he liked. They serve horchata as well, we didn’t try it, but lots of people ordered it and it looked delicious. It’s a little cramped inside when there is a line, but my word the food more than compensates!!!
