I fell in love with this place. The décor is so cute, and all the lighting really makes this place come alive. The service is top notch! and the food was great. We ordered a few different rolls but the ones that really made me fall in love was the Sweat P roll. Everything was great. But this one was soooo yummy! And the dessert of the banana donut was heavenly. HEAVENLY. AMAZING so go. eat. enjoy. and thank me later. :D

Two of my friends and I made reservations to come here on a Thursday night. although we were 20 mins late, we were greeted right away and seated within a few minutes. I loved the décor and the music. It’s very modern and classy! To get us started all three of us ordered the miso soup. It was delicious! Not being a huge fan of soups in general, I wasn’t expecting to like it so much, but it had the right amount of flavor and spice. Both our waiters were very helpful(and funny!) with any questions we may have had. Our waters were filled consistently(very thoughtful waiters!) We ended up getting the Veggie Delight, the sweet P, and the Torched Salmon(our waiter said that was the most popular tempura roll). I wish I got to see them torching it with fire when they brought it out, but it was freshly baked and well cooked! My friends liked their veggie rolls they got as well. We loved everything! For desserts our waiter recommended to get either the pudding or the warm donuts and we ended up getting the donuts and they were delicious as well. I would definitely come back to try more!

My friend made reservations at Jellyfish for her 22nd birthday last night. There’s was 4 of us girls who went. I liked the lighting and the layout of the place. Our server was really nice except she took kind of long to come around each time and the place was probably at least 60% empty. I’m not a big fan of sushi so I ordered chicken fried rice. One ordered the crab tacos and the other two ordered sushi rolls. My chicken fried rice was pretty good. There were more ingredients than any other fried rice I’ve had which I loved. All of us loved the drinks we ordered. I had a vodka sour, per usual, and it was made really good and strong. They did bring out a cute bowl of ice cream with a candle in it for my friend. Very nice of our server. In my opinion they are pretty expensive. The 4 entrees we had along with 1 drink each the bill was about $ 125. The serving sizes are extremely small for that price. Upon leaving we were approached by a lady which said she was one of the partners at jellyfish. Extremely nice and friendly. Not sure if I’ll return. Wasn’t a big fan of the vibe. There was a DJ but music was pretty low and not good in my opinion. I guess this is just a place that you have to go to and see how you like it!

The food was terrible — do not ever order the fire and snow crab maki. Also, the oxtail phở left much to be desired. I understand I went here during Restaurant week, but still the quality of the food(overall) left much to be desired. As a result, most of my friends and ended up leaving hungry. The service was incredible and they offered me a discount on my bill, but that didn’t alleviate my hunger the rest of the day(or night). The ambiance and area are amazing… but the quality of the food is okay. It was just BLAND. I’m shocked, to be honest.

First time on Monday evening. Now I know where to get better sushi in Chicago and a better place. Very nice. Great traditional offerings… some very original offerings. All very good. Drinks at reasonable prices. This place costs no more than good sushi and is way upscale from any other sushi joint in Chicago. We will be regulars.

I was really looking forward to eating here, but was totally disappointed. Went for restaurant week, one of the items was not available and although the were only 3 tables of guest, service was extremely slow. Spoke with the manager, he could care less. I’ve had better sushi at Mariano’s. I will not return.

Jellyfish is totally a cool spot! Right when you walk in its swanky and fun, lounge club appeal. I totally fell in love with this place from the start. Service is quick and friendly. They have an awesome drink menu with very tasty specialty drinks. I go for the sushi but they have a lot of other really good things on their menu that I’ll have to check out the next time I go. The sushi was awesome, plating was very nice. Price wise I think is fair, definitely worth checking out, it’s a really cool just different fun place to go, guys take your girls here for Valentine’s Day, Italian on Valentine’s Day is too cliché ;-)

Do not waste your money at this establishment. I am a firm believer that a restaurant should match its price point in all respects. Jellyfish fails to do this in all regards. Everything on the menu is unoriginal and overpriced. The same $ 15 cocktails are made better, cheaper, and in under 30min, at Henrys swing club. The place is not big enough, nor the drinks complicated enough, for it to take 20+ minutes worth each drink order, but amazingly they did. The drink menu is also printed wrong apparently, so I’m not really sure what was in the sink I ordered. The ‘signature’ rolls all seem very similar and taste like they were made by a guy with a copy of «An Idiots Guide To Making Sushi». Lots of tuna, cream cheese and jalepeno. The taste is vaguely familiar to that of the sushi you made the mistake of buying at Target late on a Tuesday night. The service was not horrible but also not great. It seemed as thigh or waitress spent most of her time making sure the server support staff wasn’t messing something up or apologizing for how long everything was taking. All said and done the meal took 4hrs… yes 4hrs. At least we got to listen to top 40 music while a DJ took selfies and checked his tinder while we were there!

3.5−4÷5 overall. Ordered a bunch of sushi, appetizers and some shareables. I dont think sushi is their stronger part of the menu, but I did enjoy the avocado and crab salad. which is the chef’s special. I also did enjoy my boneless chicken and waffles. The only downside to that was that the waffles were a bit bland and hard, but the boneless chicken AND syrup was amazing!

This hidden place is Great! I love Sushi(occasionally and only when done right) this place seems to have the perfect mix. Great place to go on a date. Great service, and ambiance. Pricing is very very decent for a sushi spot in the heart of Rush St.

I came here on a Friday night with a friend and did not know what to expect. I have lived in the area for quite a while and had never given Jellyfish a shot. I am glad I came. The general manager Bill greeted my friend and I shortly after we walked in. I noticed he would walk around the restaurant greeting every table with a vibrant smile and made everyone feel welcome. That added a huge part to our wonderful experience. We asked the waitress to bring us random things to our table so we can try their specialities. Lobster spring rolls, oxtail dumplings, and pork belly were the choices she came up with. Amazing!!! We then ordered a bunch of sushi and the fish was top notch. I am a sushi fanatic and let me tell you, Jellyfish has some great quality fish. Overall our experience was amazing. My friend said at the end of the meal«this was the best meal I have ever ate». We will be dining there again in the near future.

I absolutely love this place. I give it a A+ for service, ambiance, And food. Is definitely a little gem hidden on rush street. Our party had the ox tail dumplings, accompanied with the chicken wraps which were all amazing. I love the cucumber, Jalapeño cocktail that they had on the menu so I gave it a try. Definitely delicious and refreshing with the kick is the best I can describe it. For dinner we decided to get the Mongolian Beef which was amazing, shrimp rolls full of flavor, the banging chicken was by far at the top of my yum list. I would highly recommend this place for a cute little date night or just to get together with friends. We made a reservations online through OpenTable and I never had an issue at all. The staff is very friendly and very informative and provided you with any answers to questions you had about the menu. I will definitely be coming back here again in the future.

Be sure if you choose to dine at Jellyfish you maintain the ability to name drop, it will definitely improve the level of customer service you receive. My husband and I had dinner at Jellyfish this evening. Our waitress was wonderful as was the bus staff. After dinner we moved to the bar to have a drink and watch part of the Thursday night football game. Three patrons came into the restaurant and asked the bartender to change the channel to the preseason bulls game. The manager came to change the channel and we explained we were watching the game, the manager Don Peters said it didn’t matter that we watching the football because one of the patrons was apparently Joaquin Noah’s mother.
We had just spent over $ 220 on dinner and then we were explicit told that it didn’t matter because of who the other patron was. The issue is not the TV, as we have TV’s at home however the extreme disregard, lack of manners and poor customer service was astounding. The fact that we are repeat customers that live in the area apparently doesn’t mean that we will receive the same level of customer service as another patron. The treatment we received was appalling; there are a multitude of restaurants in the city not to mention on rush street, it is shocking that a restaurant which has never been busy when we were in attendance, will treat their customers with a such a disappointing level of customer service. The manager was extremely rude and dismissive, the only expectation we had was for the manager to politely ask if we were watching.

I went there on a Saturday night. It was busy but I had a reservation so that was fine. It was«hip» and trendy. People were dressed well so that was nice since I was having a Saturday night out with my honey. Ok, so other that that, I wasn’t impressed. First, the miso soup didn’t have much flavor and I love me some miso soup. Secondly, the service was less than mediocre. I understand it was the weekend but, then the restaurant should be prepared for the traffic. The bad service I received is no fault of the waiter(although he didn’t help), all fingers point to management. After waiting approximately 100 years to get get my nigiri, we didn’t get soy sauce. So you know what that meant… RIGHT you guessed it… I had to grow a few more grey hairs before I could get someone to come to my table to let them know I needed some. Ok. my nigiri wasn’t amazing. It was okay… Again, I’ve had better for cheaper. The jellyfish ceviche was ok I guess. I’ve never had jellyfish before so I said hey why not get some jellyfish at Jellyfish. Save the $ 14, you aren’t missing anything. I probably should give this place a 1, but I know my sushi standards are a little high so I’m going to be generous. I won’t be going back. I’d rather go to RA down the street.

DONOT do the groupon. For 150 bucks for 2… ugh, I feel kinda cheated. Started off not so bad with a some bbq eel and then sashimi which was good. The beef and fish dish was cold. Dessert was something my little cousin might have come up with. Our waiter was nice, but I couldn’t understand a thing she was saying(I think she was thai). Atmosphere was ok, they have a DJ but I don’t really know for what not impressed will not be back, way better places in the city

My husband and I came here for dinner on a Friday evening. We made reservation couple weeks ago, but they couldn’t find our reservation. but after few minutes they were able to figure it out. maybe something was off with their reservation system. We were seated to a table right next to the Scoop store next door. The separation between Scoop and Jellyfish is a window, so customers shopping at Scoop can see us eat while we can watch them shop. It wasn’t a good seat, but we made due. It was pretty quiet at 630pm. There were other vacant tables available but not sure why we were seated there. Anyway, our waiter was nice. He remembered all the dishes we ordered. My husband and I normally order a lot of food when we eat out, and surprised he remembered every dish without writing it down! My husband and I were just hoping our table would be big enough for all the food we ordered. would prefer a booth but maybe they just seat us there because we are small and«look» young. We started with their spicy mini tacos. This was okay — nothing special about it. The honey walnut shrimp was really good. This was my favorite dish of the night! The ox tail dumplings were just okay. I didn’t like it, but my husband thought it was okay. Miso soup taste weird to me. it was a darker broth. My husband thought it was okay. My husband like the uni nigiri he ordered. That was his favorite item of the night. He also ordered their fatty toro, hamachi, and salmon and these 3 nigiris were just okay. it didn’t hit the spot for him. We had the fire and snow sushi roll… which was okay. Lots of crab chunk in the middle. Spicy salmon was okay, too. Crabby eel roll was big in size and taste was decent. Overall it was just an okay experience. Maybe because I had high expectations prior to coming here. but there are other Japanese/sushi restaurants in Chicago that are way better. It is not worth the price we paid.

Worst meal that we had on our Chicago trip. Wasn’t terrible but was mediocre quality coupled with being higher priced for sushi. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll pay big bucks for sushi if it is amazing, here it was meh. Got the sushi for 2 which had decent variety but nothing too exciting. Service was fine — this could have gotten 3 stars but everything else in town was so much better that I’m docking it a star.

The atmosphere is what makes this place. You enter through a discrete doorway with only a small sign announcing the restaurant’s presence. Truly like the walk up restaurants of New York and New Delhi, Jellyfish has a hidden-away fantasy-world vibe to it. Once you make it through the maze of stairs and hallways, a fresh, blue Miami wave washes over you. We ate dinner during the evening, and the blue LED lights gave us a wonderful wakeful feeling. The place has a great vibe on weekends as they have top Chicago DJs like Jesse De La Pena spinning. Our waiter was very friendly and told us they will be renovating the booths over the summer to be more open, since they currently feel a little closed-in. The food was pretty good although a little pricey. The stand-out dishes were the Pork Belly Ramen(very hearty and satisfying) and the Braised Beef Bao-Buns with kimchi. The sushi was good but not outstanding.

Decent Japanese fusion restaurant. Love their starters. The beef bun is sooooo good! We also got the dragon roll and eel nigiri. The eel nigiri is okay. The dragon roll is pretty good tho! In the end we got donuts and ice cream for desserts. Both are very cute but nothing too special. Overall pretty decent place. Ambience is really nice. But I’ll say it’s more like a bar than a restaurant.

Really unique vibe, and great sushi. Came here for a ladies night and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening out. My friend and I waited at the bar for the rest of our party, and were served immediately. Service: on point. Our waiter took great care of us and the food came out very quickly, especially for such a busy night. Food: decent sushi, a little overpriced, but you’re paying for the experience. I got the crazy veggie roll and avocado with brown rice. Both rolls were great. My friends loved their drinks, so it’s not just a sushi restaurant by any means. I recommend the corsage cocktail, my friend loved it enough that she ordered two. Atmosphere: probably the best part. We loved this restaurant for the cool and hip environment. There is also DJ on Friday and Saturday adding to the great vibe.

How is it possible to have delicious(and fresh!) noshes at such a trendy spot?! Seriously. Look at my pictures. The walls had a neat texture and glowed blue light. It’s only a doorway when you approach it from the street, but then you go up some stairs(or the elevator) and find this neat atmosphere. Stephanie greeted us in her LBD, smart flats, and sporting a rident smile. She must have been on Trader Joe’s happy juice because Jellyfish must have picked her right from that bush. Heck! When I expressed confusion about what wine to order, she offered to bring me samples of three wines. Yum yum yum. M and I ordered the Tuna Tartar to start. It was served with a gorgeous orchid blossom, a bowl of crispy chips, and on a bed of guacamole. Yes. It was right up our alley! Next, we got three maki rolls: the Philadelphia(don’t judge! I have a soft spot for cream cheese!), the Mexican(our favorite), and the Spicy Tuna Tempura(yes!!!). The Philadelphia had a surprising smokey quality that kept us coming back. The Mexican had a scrumptious blend of good flavors. The Spicy Tuna Tempura had fabulous textutres: crunchy exterior with a soft inside. The flavors of the Spicy Tuna Tempura were bland at first and then grew a little spicier and more interesting with continued noshing. Our weekend lunch cost us about $ 90. We had three glasses of wine, the Tuna Tartar, and three rolls. I must say that the prices are enough to give us pause, but we had our Open Table dining check which eased us into it a bit more. Now we understand the quality, the friendly and cheerful service, and the cool atmosphere make it worth the price. We are ready for more. Stephanie was kind enough to show us the brunch menu(until 3:00PM on Saturdays and Sundays) and I am STOKED to return for their matcha green tea waffles and chicken. Can I get a weekend Hallelujah for an Asian twist on American chicken and waffles? Amen.

Jellyfish is located on the second floor, right across from Hugo’s Frog Bar and Gibson’s Steakhouse. We came in for a tasting and were seated next to the window in the sunroom section of the restaurant and had great views of the high-rises above and all the activity on Rush St. below. On the interior of the restaurant you’ll find the modern bar and booths all bathed in a cool, blue light — definitely not a bad spot to start your Saturday night! Our tasting started with a crisp glass of Prosecco paired with the Spicy Crab Mini Tacos filled with jumbo lump crab, cilantro, lime tomato, shallots, chives, candied lemon, and jalapeño as well as the Sizzling Stone — Wagyu beef cooked table side on a hot stone with sweet ponzu. The tacos were a great refreshing start but the wagyu stole the show; if you enjoy beef, this is a dish you don’t want to miss at Jellyfish. They bring out the hot stone along with the beef and you cook it yourself right there on the table. The beef is sliced thin so it only takes about 10 – 15 seconds on each side. The marbling of the beef made for some tasty, incredibly tender bites hot off the stone! Next up was our sushi course that was paired with a glass of sake. I’m a big fan of sushi but my experience with sake is limited to a few sake bombs I had about 6 – 7 years ago, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The first sip was a bit strong but I was surprised how much I enjoyed it when I took another sip after a bite of the sushi. That’s what great food and wine pairings are all about, right?! We shared the Angry Jalapeño roll along with the Pink Flower Roll. The former was filled with spicy tuna and cucumber and topped with hamachi and jalapeño sauce. The latter was filled with salmon, crab, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber and wrapped in soy paper. While the Pink Flower was good(I’d skip it on a return trip), the Angry Jalapeño was da . Seriously. Super fresh and I loved the little kick of spiciness. Highly recommend this roll at Jellyfish! Next up was the main event, proof that Jellyfish is not just a sushi restaurant. We had a fantastic glass of Pinot Noir along with the Arctic Char special and the Roasted Pork Belly. The arctic char was served with mussels, carrots, green beans, red onion, fresno peppers, and curry sauce — a Thai-inspired dish with perfectly cooked fish that hit the spot. The pork belly was slow cooked, topped with pineapple relish, and served with a side of yuzu coleslaw. The pork melted in our mouths and the sweetness and acidity of the relish and the coleslaw were great complements. Last but certainly not least was the Warm Banana Donut dessert — warm banana doughnuts, blueberry compote, ice cream, and espresso cream. This was paired with a glass of port and we thoroughly enjoyed both. The doughnuts were served warm and everything on the plate went together for the perfect sweet ending.
