I’ll Cut You

Vlad is great. I had just moved to town with my first pixie and was worried that I wouldn’t be able to find a stylist that I liked and that could keep up with how short I like my hair without having done my hair before.
I have gone to him about 4 times now and each time my hair has come out fantastic! He is even working with my on growing my hair out to more of a bob. Shaping it so that I don’t end up with a mullet in the meantime.
I have never had Vlad cut my hair when it was long, but in my experience with him, he truly understands how to shape and cut your hair to make it do exactly what you want it to. He will even show you how to style it and teach you the tricks of the trade!
His studio is quirky and fun, so if you are looking for some posh spot with fluffy chairs and the latest magazine, this isn’t it. But if you want pure talent and skill with some good conversation, you have found your guy!
I recommend Vlad without hesitation.

I went in to get my hair curled for a party I was going to later that night. I was suggested by a friend that gets his hair cut by Vlad.
He put my hair in Velcro curlers and stuck me under this awkward, retro heater for a long time while also sitting in the sun. He took them out and none of them were holding the curl because the heater was so small and wasn’t getting my entire head. On top of that, one of the curlers got STUCK in my hair. I was angry and in pain and he said, «What? Are you crying? Ha!» Wow, thanks. He pulled out a chunk of my hair and said, ‘Oh, that was damaged hair.” No, it was my normal hair you ripped out!
After my friend came to the salon, everyone could tell how upset I was and the stylist said, «Women tend to get crabby. She’s crabby because I was yanking out her hair. I’m not a misogynist or anything.» So rude.
Then he put hot rollers in my hair and I was about done. Thankfully, he didn’t charge us. I left the salon with awkwardly crimped hair. I ended up having to go take a shower and blow dry my hair for the 3^rd time that day before the party. If you’re looking to get a hair cut, he’s good, but if you’re a girl looking to get styled, run.

let me start off by saying that Vlad is very nice, and i hate writing this negative review.
But…i don’t want anyone else to end up in my situation going off all of the previous wonderful reviews as i did.
He may very well give great cuts, but i’m too depressed over my tangerine/​lemon hair to consider his cutting skills.
After almost 6 hours, my naturally level 7, but kind of ombré hair turned out exactly opposite of what i asked for.
What i asked for should have been EASY to achieve, i’ve done it myself.
I simply wanted to have my hair done for me, which i hoped would save time and give better results.
Now i have to figure out if i can save it on my own since i can’t afford to have someone else do it-​again.

Vlad’s given me best haircut I’ve had. Ever. And his studio provides one of the best views of the city, overlooking the Milwaukee, North, Damen intersection. Surreal.
Go visit Vlad, you won’t regret it.

it’s been over a year since i first met vlad, and like fine wine, this relationship just keeps getting better. i feel like after a few cuts he really knows my aesthetic to a point where i really don’t have to describe what i want to him too much, and i kind of just let him go with what he thinks will look good with a little bit of specification/​direction from me. it’s cool, like a collaboration. he’s the snoop dogg to my robyn.
it’s pretty awesome to have the feeling that you’re going to hang out with a friend when you get your hair cut. everyone give this dude your hair and your money, he’s the best.

If you have a frilly-​lily idea about how you want your hair based on your favorite rocker who jacked your favorite rockabillier who stole his style from the unknown originator, Vlad’s Cut You a million times before.
The good thing about Vlad is he won’t give you a ducktail when you come quacking but will make you look like Nick Cave when he was still dashing (circa Birthday Party). The only bad thing about Vlad is that in celebrating his countless victories in hairstyle competitions throughout the years his memory has been decimated. Maybe you really did want to hang on to that rat-​tail clinging to the back of your neck since last winter. Whoopsie, I’ll Cut You cut it down.
A veteran Vladian who gets cut here trusts that Vlad knows what’s best for his/​her hair anyway, in the long run he does. There’s a reason why he is one of two hairdressers in the world I know I’ll walk away satisfied by.
For the doubters, they just can’t take Vlad’s tactics, that is to say, perhaps his iron fist is clenched too tight around their preconceived notions of beauty and the long-​winded walk up the stairs to his salon in an art studio is too grueling.
For anyone who knows wots wot, call him like Blondie and get Cut.

What a FUN cliché-​Wicker Park (that’s a good thing) stylist. I felt like I was in a movie. Or like I was in t/​Wicker Park of 5 years ago. You can take t/​old-​school gated elevator (how fun!) or walk up to the third floor of the Flatiron Building (above Bank of America, sort of). Knock on door of 303. You enter what looks like an artist’s studio w/​distressed, very romantic, vintage vanities. It has that cluttered look that Inner Town Pub has… not in a messy way. In the «a creative mind lives here» way. Small: maybe 10′ x 25′.? Paintings from his artist friends who share t/​building are on t/​wall in random fashion. You can play your iPod, but it’s so much more fun to let him introduce you to amazing bands, by letting him play his music. Not much in way of mag’s. He really listens to you and what you want done. Very high quality dyes from Italy that won’t freak out your hair. Very knowledgeable about hair chemicals, etc. Fascinating conversationalist (I usually hate that part about getting hair cut. I really don’t care how many bros/sis’s my stylist has.) b/​c he travels, is into music/​movies/​books, etc. I paid $ 125 for cut and a very difficult dye job that had to be done 3 times. He’s very professional. And cool view from window! Stop by artists’ galleries before/​after!

Vlad rules!
This place is great for both guys and women. His haircuts are priced very fairly and he can usually get you in within a day. He will do your hair up right, and you can hear all about his trips to Cambodia, Ibiza, and beyond.
I always learn something new when I go there, and have a good time while I’m being improved. I gotta get a picture of this new haircut up here, it’s too good to hide away from the world.
My girlfriend pays less for her hair then any other girl in Chicago, and when her bangs start to grow out, she can go in and get them re-​done for free.
Also, Vlad is just an interesting guy. He can match a photo that you bring in, but he can freestyle with equally impressive results.

I’ve always been terrible with my hair and I’ve never had a hair cut that I truly like… Until this week! I went to Vlad’s hair studio in Wicker Park and can honestly say my hair has NEVER looked this good on me I could hardly believe it. Vlad is an amazing listener which is key to a truly good hair stylist and he worked in my comfort zone for length and style while putting an edge to it. I get compliments all the time and I feel more confident because my hair isn’t all jacked up anymore! Thanks Vlad at I’ll Cut You!
