I was a feeling a bit out of place wandering through the Flat Iron building on a First Friday event by myself. Thankfully I didn’t give up and leave — the last gallery I entered rocked. The crowd here is laid back and friendly. These are real people without any sense of being full of themselves or esoteric artists. The gallery owner(Jeff) and one of the artists(Scot) welcomed me in and we struck up conversations that lasted hours. The huge projection screen made playing Double Dragon after the event awesome. It’s almost more of a hangout than a gallery. The artwork at Catawampus is a hodgepodge of bright colors, repurposed materials, riqsue drawings and moments captured on film. Lots of cool and different pieces. Don’t miss it next time you’re in the Flat Iron. It’s the bright red gallery on the third floor.
