Gaylord is NOT closed. They moved to 100 E Watson. Fabulous Indian food and very reasonable prices. Visit them at the new address. Highly recommended.

I love the food, it is not the most romantic or classy of many of my fav places but it’s worth going for the food, I devour their spinach and lamb, you must try it… mieowww, licky yummm. UPDATE: Gosh Darn It, I can’t believe all these wonderful places I used to love are now closed, gone. Not much reason to even visit Chicago any more :/

Gaylord’s NEW address is 100 East Walton, a basement spot between Rush and Mich. Ave. hard to find but worth it. There is not a bad dish on the menu. My service has always been attentive and efficient. I noticed a poor review posted on 11/23/2008, but this location did not open until 12÷31÷2008− ? I have never heard of too many diners seeking out Indian restaurants because of «amazing service». You go for the food ! Gaylord Indian Restaurants have been around for decades and this new location is a good one. Friendly managers and staff, and well prepared food. Indian food that taste they way it SHOULD taste. If you are a deal seeking diner, choose one of their preset dinners. The King, The Queen, or Vegetarian. All excellent and good value. Also there is a big discount for carry out.

great food great service: my mom had chicken kabob and my dad and i had the veggie platter. for what we paid though, can get the same quality food on devon for cheaper. 3 stars for the cute boy/host who grabbed our coats and the blonde who served our food isn’t bad to look at either. i probably won’t be back though. you know what the prices are pretty typical for a restaurant that happens to be across the street from GUCCI. just sayin.

The service was great at this restaurant. The food was also very tasty. One of my friends could not handle spicy food so the restaurant was able to accomodate the spiciness. Its a bit pricey for dinner.

I would give this place a one star if the food wasn’t tasty. The three times I’ve been here, I’ve experienced progressively worse service, to the point where the final time we almost walked out mid-meal. You might ask why we bothered to go back three times if service was an issue — well, the first time it was iffy but the food was good; the second time it was bad, but we thought they were maybe a bit overwhelmed because it was pretty packed; the final time the service was probably the worst I’ve ever had at any restaurant of that price range in the city and the dining room was only about ½ full(we came early in the hopes of avoiding the crowd and the issues we’d experienced the last time). Needless to say, three strikes and they’re out — we had equally-good or even better food at India House and excellent service, so from now on we’ll be taking groups in the mood for Indian there.

I have always had a good experience at Gaylord’s and just love the food. I’ve been going there for 12 years had no idea they were closed on Clark, I will have to find out where they are. I prefer their buffet during lunch hours, it is so worth the $$$.

If you’re stuck south of Chicago Ave. and want Indian food, you’re pretty much screwed, but this place is your best bet. The food is good, the service is above average, but it’s definitely over priced for dinner.

I had the lunch buffet today. I have been to several Indian restaurant lunch buffets in the city, and this is by far the best one of the ones I have tried. The food is hot and fresh, the naan is tasty(although I prefer cripsier naan), and the selection is varied. There are plenty of vegetarian choices as well. The service is fairly attentive once you are seated, but the people running the place aren’t the most affable. I would not call them rude, as did another review, but it has been my experience that when you walk in you are met with blank stares and a seemingly apathetic attitude toward the fact that you have arrived. Perhaps a cultural thing, or they expect the business suit crowd(of which I am not a member)… After lunch there, today, my lunch companion left his hat at his seat and the server was at the door with it as we were walking away from the restaurant, so they are paying attention. I plan on checking the place out for dinner in the near future. I have been to Gaylord for dinner but it has been many, many years.

You know, I’m going with a 3 on this one. The vegetarian food is AMAZING. The nan is always soft and fluffy. I love the spinach paneer and the chick pea curry. This is one of those places where I eat until I can’t eat anymore. The lunch buffet is great — unlimited trips to the buffet for around $ 12…so the price is also reasonable. Now, why it’s getting a 3 star review… The wait staff at Gaylord’s is UNBELIEVABLY rude. Several times I have walked in and they have looked at me and walked away. It takes forever to get seated. They have also tried to take away my plate before I was finished with it. In general, their body language and manner are really poor and they are consistently rude. They give you that look, «Can you just finish so the next person can come in?» If this was, oh, I don’t know, McDonald’s, I could understand that mentality. IT’S A FREAKIN’ sit down restaurant! Their food is good, though.

Thank you Gaylord India for a great Thanksgiving buffet! There was enough of a selection that I could find a little bit of everything to try, and I loved that their lentil fritters looked like they were made using a donut machine! I loved my lentil donut. The chicken curry was smooth and flavorful, and there are actually hard-boiled egg halves in the sauce! So good. The only thing that I would have really liked would have been some good green mint chutney that we usually have at other Indian restaurants. The only thing that they said was«mint chutney» was a white yogurt based sauce with some mint in it. Not what I was expecting. Also I wish there had been a couple more chicken dishes to choose from — like Chicken Tikka Masala. Their desserts — WOW! One of the most flavorful rice puddings I have had, and their little round donuts were also very good. Also they had what we called the«orange cream of wheat» with almonds on top, which was also delicious. I’m glad they had all the options out for us to try! Yum!

Picky eaters have to eat too, and they certainly can at Gaylord. I haven’t ever really been one for Indian food, but when my friends invited me to celebrate Diwali, I decided to suck it up and try something new. I went for the chicken tikka and cheese naan. The chicken was AMAZING… full of flavor, grilled to perfection, and so tender. The cheese naan was served up hot and the taste… tremendous. In the spirit of the holiday, we topped off our meals with the Gaylord Special – a mango and vodka concoction that went down smooth and fruity. I gave this place 3 stars because the service was SLOW. Not only that, but the waitstaff kept trying to take away all of our dishes before we’d even finished. And when I was waiting for my friends(who were majorly late), the management kept bugging me and asking me what party I was part of(even though I’d told them twice that they were late). So definitely go for the food, but take the service in stride.

This place feels more like an Indian restaurant in India(I’m born and brought up there) than any others I’ve been to in Chi-town! The pluses: The food isn’t as oily as India House The wait staff is very efficient and attentive! I hate the service at India House. The vegetarian platter is a great mix of starters and all taste good! The minuses: I wanted«paneer» kulcha — they gave me «cheese» kulcha and argued that it was indeed paneer. The host was like, well paneer is just cheese!!! NOOO I know the difference! Doesn’t he? On the up-side, he replaced to anything I want very quickly. This place is on the dry-side of preparation and the breads aren’t so good. Ask for lemon to add to your curries!

Okay, so here’s the real scoop on this place. The food top-notch, the service is spotty… usually cold and distant — sometimes covertly rude, the atmosphere is nice, the prices are a tad high and the menu is solid. The drinks are REALLY expensive, so if yer looking to drink be careful. Overall, I love this place… but I really wish that the staff would drop their attitudes and play nice.

The engineers upstairs at work got Gaylord catered so we had a big architect/engineer lunch extravaganza. I can’t comment on actually going to the restaurant. But everything was so good! I want it right now. A tad greasy, though.

This would’ve got four-stars yesterday night after I’d eaten here, but actually now I compare it to Devon Ave. restaurants this place is pretty standard fare. I don’t want to compare a veg with a non-veg restaurant from different regions, but I do think the consistency and quality is better at my recent visit to Devon Ave. Tonight’s meal was ok — the sauces were tangy and orange. The fish was delicious. The lamb was good at first, but then the later bites were chewy and less tender. The food was kinda indistinguishable from any other competent restaurant, but was only 2 miles from the hotel and fairly well rated by an Indian colleague who lived in Chicago. NB: If I could give ½ stars I’d add it to this place.

This is the best Indian buffet I’ve experienced. I took some Indian co-workers to see what they thought and one commented«its fresh… tastes homemade!.. really good». I agree with another reviewer in that I get cravings for their food. We will spend the few extra dollars and take a cab here from work(from downtown) once in a while. Its really that good. And did I mention I get cravings? For the buffet they offer your usual 8 or 10 dishes and one main entrée of the day in the center on a large platter. I love it when I find yellow curried potatoes in that center platter, its my favorite dish here. There is also a salad bar and desserts at the ends of the table. Service is attentive and polite. The place itself is very nice, clean and pleasant, but its hard to find parking(its close to the downtown RocknRoll Mcdonalds, Portillo’s etc) There is a parking garage across the street but its naturally expensive. Oddly they are missing samosa’s from their buffet, which for me is a MUSTEAT when your dining Indian.

A good deal for lunch. I met my hubby up here for lunch after a horrible morning at work and lets say I quickly was able to dry up my tears and enjoy the buffet layed out before us. 3 stars for now as I haven’t been to /rated any other Indian places in the area.

I crave this place. The food is so good. My favorites are: Malai Kabab — Chunks of chicken breast marinated in a spiced cream cheese mixture and cooked Saag Paneer — Delicately flavored fresh spinach cooked with chunks of homemade cheese. And the nan, of course! It is a little expensive but if you order take out you get 20% off! So that makes the price a little more manageable. Plus I can never eat everything I order so I usually get a couple of meals out of it. Yum, I was some saag paneer right now!
