A good, solid haircut from somebody who’s obviously been doing this all his life. Great guy, great haircut, exceptional price, and no frills. Who wants frills when they go barber anyway?! You’re in and out in 20 mins or so and are returned to your former magnificent, well trimmed self.

Got my haircut by Joe, excellent job! Pretty awesome building too. When in the city and needing a trim, found my guy.

Joe is fantastic, no BS barber. Watch out for the broom afterwards! Definitely recommend.

Joe is awesome! I went to him in a rush and he gave me a haircut in 15 minutes that was as good as I have ever got one.

I should have been smarter than this. All 5 star reviews. Should have smelled a rat. I made a telephonic appointment several hours in advance for a haircut and a shave. I reached the location on time and waited for his majesty to finish his conversation with a random guy. I then told him pretty clearly I wanted a haircut and a shave. He took his own sweet time with the sub-par uneven haircut, added a wash without informing me of the additional charge(no gripes there). He then casually told me I can wait until the next guy gets a haircut for my shave. I had specifically asked for a haircut and a shave TWICE, and he claimed not to have heard me, and that he allotted me only 30 minutes. Now whose fault is that, genius? If you hadn’t been regaling that dude with your tall tales, you’d have had enough time to shave my face, and more. Thoroughly unprofessional. I’m sticking to the lousy chain i usually go to. At least I know what to expect.

I found Joe on Unilocal when I moved to Chicago, and have been coming back to him ever since. He does a fantastic job and his price is a very reasonable $ 20. Plus, after you’re done he brushes the hair off of you with a broom, which is hilarious but works well. Highly recommended.

Joe Gambino is the real deal! If you want a true authentic barber you have to go to Joe’s. He is always consistent with my haircuts, uses a straight blade for shaving, and even sweeps the hair of you with a broom when done.

Joe is your classic barber who is no frills but high quality. His haircuts are affordable and consistently great. He takes the time to do the job right and is great about making sure it’s exactly what you want. You know you have found a person you can trust when you wait until you’re back in Chicago to see Joe for a haircut. Edit: It’s in Salon 333 but it’s separate business. I just call Joe’s line at 312−787−1886 to schedule a time.

I’ve been going to Joe Gambino for haircuts for more years than I care to remember, first when he worked in the Wrigley Building barbershop and ever since he moved to his own shop in the Wirtz Building on the other side of the Chicago River on Michigan Avenue. Joe is the best. My hair has never had it so good, not since the days when I used Vitalis as a teenager. I guess my wife is the best judge. We’ve been married for 39 years. She says my hair never looked so good. Who am I to argue with her? What makes the difference between one barber and another? I don’t know. It’s all in what you see in the mirror, right? I’ve had haircuts in a lot of places… from Blue Island to Champaign to Collinsville to Wheaton to Glen Ellyn to Chicago. But my hair never looked better than after Joe finished his work. «Just long enough to comb,» are the only instructions I give him when I sit in the chair. He never asks: «Is it long enough?» He is in complete control of the situation. It makes you want to keep enough hair on your head so Joe can keep working on it.
