This place is a bit hit or miss… more on the miss. Sometimes the music is just right where theres enough reggae to keep me and my lady company in it. Most times eeeeh… I dunno… DJ sometimes just seems to be all over the place and indecisive whether he wants to go 90s, trap music, or whatever. I also rate these places with the mentality of a bachelor and let’s just say if you and your buddies are looking for a place that has attractive women dressed to match… try your luck somewhere else. Drinks are also way overpriced for this kind of spot. Be sure to check and see if theres a discount textmessage if you do intend to go cause if you after 11 pm it’ll cost you 20 bucks(not too happy paying this for this place). The interior design is not suitable for very large crowds so don’t be surprised if you’re snuggled up with a stranger. Oddly enough I’ve been here more than once for the music =D go figure. I’ve read in these reviews describing this place as hood? eeeh guess it depends on where you were brought up I’m no sure I’d go that far but if you find yourself intimidated by an «urban crowd» I guess. I never felt threatened when I was here by myself with a lady.

Beware Beware! Sexual predators work at this club! Single women beware! I went to Funky buddah lounge last night 1÷24÷2015 and I am waking up this morning feeling disgusting and violated, as I was sexually harassed by a staff member at this club. Everytime I go to the club, all of the front door staff flirt to no end. One light skinned black guy at the front door, always trys to grab me to get a hug and suggests sexual things. I have been to this club about 3 times since January. but will never step foot in it again! Last night 1÷24÷2015 I got to this club at 9:30pm, they lied and said anyone was in the club when I asked them if they were open. After I paid $ 20 to park at 9:30pm I walked into a virtually empty club, except for the staff. Tonight there was some short white guy(Italian or ukranian) whom wears diamond(or cubic zirconia) earrings in his ear. Very short,(I am 5“2 and he is almost shorter than me in heels) He is the shortest of all the white men who work at the club and wears his hair very short cut fade. Went to the bathroom and realized my outfit(a body suit) had a somehow ripped right in the back by the butt! So I asked the coat check guy if he had a safety pin, he did not. SO then I am by the bar, and this short white man who pretends he runs the club starts to say hello. I tell him my situation and he suggests me staple the outfit. but I ask where we can possibly do this at because I would have to take off the item to staple it.(I should have just went home) He says I can use his office in the basement of the club. So we go through the coat check down stairs and he says I can use his office and he will wait outside… I should have known better because sure enough, about 1 minute into me changing out my cloths to staple them up real quick here he comes barging into the office claiming he needs to get something real quick. But keeps his eyes on my body, and starts complimenting me and walking towards me. I told him to stay back I was almost done. I began to just put it back on anyways before he could get to me, but before I knew it her had his hands all over me, and un snapped my bra and began to feel me up. I picked my bra up and out it back on and I hurried up and put my body suit back on. He then began to proposition me for sex! telling me how hard he was. I told him to open the door and let me out because he had totally ruined my night. He then began to get mad and tell me about how I turned him down a previous night when he was in his VIP section with a bunch of women«popping a bottle» I remember that night too, he came up and grabbed me and asked me to come with him, which I refused, and he went back to his table. (OKFYI I am black, I like black men, I do not understand why this man thinks I would want to be waking around a black club with a 40 year old short white man. It would look like something else, that I have no desire to look like. so when I first saw him I was like ew, why would I want a 40 year old short white man when there is a club full of youthful 25 – 35 yr old black men and Hispanic whom are attractive) I was waiting on a friend to show up, but I told them not to even worry about it because my night had been ruined by this predator. If you are a single female do NOT go to this club unless you have a man with you because the men whom work at this club have no respect for women what so ever! I do not know if I can file a police report or anything, I will probably talk to some friends to decide what I am going to do! I will never ever be returning to this club and I hope the two main men who constantly harass women get fired!

Jan 17, 2014 My birthday party 20+ people on my list with vip bottle service like 7bottles and money already paid upfront. Greeted rudely at the door. Told us that limo service drop off not allowed wanted us to walk half a block away. Asked us if we’re we overly intoxicated at 930pm. We hadn’t even started yet. Head of security was on a high horse acting like he ran stuff. Called a young lady with us an asshole. after they were being rude to us even though we were about to drop stacks in there. Talked to the little balding manger Ben I think, that told us that our card had been charged and thank you for your money and that we can leave. Wowww that’s when we got heated. we called all of our people outside and had to redirect our friends to bevy. Way better crowd bottle service and were greeted like human beings. We had a good crowd with us nobody hood or ghetto and they treated us like royalty. Forget funky buddah glad they are closing down…

This place has gone waaaaay down hill over the past few years! I live just down the street and there is always after hours mayhem especially on the weekends. I’ve counted 3 shootings just this year associated with the place! Welcome to the neighborhood Google! I would love to see the neighborhood lobby to pull the liquor license of this place. I’m talking to you Alderman Burnett

You should totally go to this place if you’d like to significantly increase your chances of getting shot without having to go much further West or South. Be environmentally friendly and save on gas without skipping out on the thrills. If you are lucky, you can catch patrons of Funky Buddha Lounge puking their guts out on the sidewalk around 3 am. Have a new piece but the gun range is closed? #funkybuddhalounge

I live above the Funky Buddha, 6 to 9 shots were fired in front of the club around 2:45−3am this morning(11/30/2014), I would avoid this bar, or don’t stay here all night.

Came here with a buddy who was visiting from KC. We came a little early, around 10pm, so there wasn’t much of a line. However, our names were on «the list» so, after getting patted down on the sidewalk, quickly entered. The small cluster of women stood confused as to how we bypassed them. Upon entering, a small crowd was around the main bar but the dance floor was largely empty. We were escorted to the VIP section where a rap group was celebrating(as I was told). Bartender gave us a free drink. I had a strong 7&7 which was great. Usually, clubs have watered down drinks for the same price. A lady rolled through and took a picture of us. A copy was $ 10 but it was a nice memento. We hung out in VIP for about an hour drinking and talking to people before making our way to the dance floor. By 11pm, this place was really getting going. Music was great, all rap music. a ton of people just dancing with each other. The celebrating rap group had several bottles of champagne with sparklers which had me thinking that I was in a Rick Ross music video for a second. We danced with several women and had a lot of fun. My rating of 4 reflects my previous experiences with clubs. I’m used to horrible top 40 mixes with stand-offish women, watered down drinks, and dirty bathrooms. Funky Buddha has none of these. Furthermore, I’ll state that I’m not the club-going type but if the mood ever hit again, I’d go to the Funky Buddha Lounge for sure. A lot of fun!

I remember Funky Buddha having better days, especially when the reggae lounge was next door. With that being said, I went here for a friends party and it was just like it was when I visited about a year ago — overcrowded. If it had not of been for the party I would not have gone. The Buddha has changed from the place I used to actually WANT to go to and has gotten quite«rough.» As we were leaving, there were some people that were mad that the establishment had to close(At 2am?! How dare they close!!!) and to show their anger, they started fighting outside and throwing chairs through the front of the place. Fortunately, I was leaving just in time and passing me at alarming/dangerous speeds were about 10 squad cars of CPD. Apparently this is a regular occurrence at this place these days. Sad. Wont be returning unless I am forced or tricked into it.

I went here on a Saturday night with two of my friends. I arrived before 11pm so we could get free entry. My other friend got there late and had to pay $ 20. The place wasn’t turnt quite yet and some sections of the lounged were tied off with rope. I danced for a bit then got a shot of vodka(cost $ 8, that’s expensive, right?). The place didn’t get hype until about 1am or so. I had a good time and danced with some people. The music was above average, but the DJ kept repeating some of the same songs. All in all, I would recommend the place if you like hip-hop(they played some 90s music at times) and want to dance.

Okay for my actual experience at the club, I can’t really complain. Bottle service was affordable for my friend’s birthday party, we got in alright, the music is good, the scene was okay. Nothing to write home about but a cool experience. The problem that I have with this place started when my friend got a little too drunk and needed to be taken home. We were kind of in a rush and in that rush I forgot to close my tab. Unfortunately I was from out of town(Michigan) and I had to return home the next morning. I called the club and when I finally got hold of someone, he rejected my idea of just giving someone I knew in Chicago permission to come pick it up and instead insisted that I had to come pick it up or have it sent to me. Okay. Since picking it up myself wasn’t an option I had to go with them having them ship my things to me. I asked when it would be shipped, he told me it would be done that week, okay, no reason to worry it should have taken about three days if that. Okay, so now it’s Saturday, one full week since the first time I called, and I’ve received nothing. I call the man I speak to doesn’t know, I call back later and he informs me that my driver’s license and ID have been shipped, I ask what day he tells me «uh Thursday or Friday» mind you my card was charged on Monday, so someone picked up my card charged it and didn’t have the presence of mind to just ship then ALSO Friday was the Fourth of July so I doubt it was shipped then, so basically bullshit. After another week I had someone call on my behalf which is when I found out that the club sent my valid driver’s licensed and my debit TOGETHER in the standard mail. How irresponsible can you be? That call was about two weeks ago and needless to say I still haven’t gotten my DL or debit card. The club is fine, the music was actually pretty good but the management is irresponsible and I definitely won’t be back.

I have so much good stuff to say about this place I fear my hands will cramp up by the time I am done typing so I will just say this If you like a fun time and good music, this is your place! I have had nothing but great memories at this place. They have been nothing but gracious and polite every time I have been there for business as well as fun.

Nice time out. I came here for a frat member Birthday party. We had bottles in the back bar section. Valet & cover is $ 20 each. It took awhile for valet to notice me. I’m glad I had a, get in free, text. Good hip-hop, r&b, & rap music.

I love the Funky Buddha Lounge. I’m a fan of rap music and mixing it up with dance music. Also a huge fan of diversity. I love that I can go in there on any Friday night and have a good time. I love to see fans of rap/RB getting along, dancing and having a good time without any of the mess that is sometimes affiliated with the rap crowds. It has changed quite a bit in the last 10 years. I’d love to see them bring back the couches and stop closing off the dance floor section. It’s highly annoying an unnecessarily clubbish when they do that. Get there by 10 and there is no cover, last I checked. Sometimes the drinks are little on the high side, it’s well worth it. I love to see people cleaned up and looking good and having an adult good time. I think that’s what Friday and Saturday nights are made for. Look forward to going back again. –LR

Fuck this place. I have hands down been their BEST, and free, marketing, promoter, patron for over 15 years. And no, back then, I did not fit on with the regular clientele as I do not currently. I cannot tell you how many people I’ve sent their way, let alone introduced in general to what the Hell it was. I’ve gotten in arguments defending this place, and whether my safety was an issue, hard core. However, they have FOREVER lost their most loyal(not to mention fun, who spends the $ of 10 other customers, and actually TIPSVERYWELL). Not the norm here. I came, very excitedly, after one of my best gf’s birthday dinners. She is the ONLY one I can convince to come here, even grown men refuse to join me, and I couldn’t be more over birthday brunches and boring shit. So, we headed over here, losing 80% of our group, no surprise. We walked in to our normal stares, up and down looks, etc. The crowd seemed especially rough that night, and I was particularly more blind to it than usual, as I was in my own world dancing. Some bitches were messing with our purses, no shock here, so I kept my phone on my physical body. Well some SCARED bitch swipes my phone out of my high waisted shorts, with tights under them, on the way out after closing. I immediately felt it and FREAKEDOUT! I ran around saying«my phone». I had an out of body experience and went OFF on the crowd outside. I ran to management, who ignored me and continued to check out his staff. I’ve been in the bar and restaurant industry for over 15 yrs, and am still part of some in the city. Wrong move dude. So, my gf has an «in» with the place, hoping this helps me with the issue. They say they caught the girl on camera. I get excited, so they are gonna review their cameras. Nothing. I call… from a payphone, a friends, etc, and Nick says he’s working on it, a week later. Um, ok. I of course have to call him again, at this point I have a gross temp phone, and he said«sorry, like I told you, black girls change their hair a lot and we couldn’t find her». Are you joking?!? Let’s say they clicked 300 ppl in that night. Maybe 25/30% were women. You have to go through 100 pics to find her. And couldn’t. Because he’s lying. Nick, you’re an epic failure at your job. A REAL owner/manager would replace the phone after failing miserably to follow protocol after that incident. Trust me, I’ve asked PLENTY of real owners around the city who cannot believe how my situation was handled. Keep your ghetto clientele, I’m out.

Went for a friend’s birthday last night. Upon arrival the less than tactful manager was having an altercation with another group. I think he could have shown a little more respect to the party and the rest of his patrons but whatevs. The dj was great! I didn’t stop dancing. Drinks were strong and about the price you would expect for the location(12 bucks for vodka and cranberry) but they charge a 20% fee for payment with a credit card; It’s 2014, ‘ain’t nobody got time for that!‘ A clubby atmosphere full of roaches– you know ugly girls in tight skirts that scatter when the lights come on. It’s cool if you like the club scene. Not my style though. I’ll give ‘em 3 stars for the music; it really was that good.

The name & vibe it gives online is deceiving! It’s nothing more than a hip hop club. It’s pretty ghetto for the area. I had to fight off guys all night, especially one persistent one that didn’t understand NO or care that I was married & with my husband. The cover was so not worth it! Will not step foot in this club again. May have enjoyed & appreciated it if I was in my early 20’s & single looking for attention!

Urban hip hop club. A solid alternative to the top 40/Billboard hip hop clubs, Funky Buddha plays actual hip hop and local talent. Crowd comes for the music and knows how to get it in. Laidback, drops the pretense and drama-free. Has a separate lounge area from the dance floor, in case your party wants to pregame.

Really not that fun(ky). We got attitude at the door(carded twice, forced to wait, subjected to a screaming manager pacing the door). Finally in– Music was alright, no where near great. The crowd was the same. A fight broke out and the bouncers did not clear it up very fast. The stripper-wannabes are not a classy touch and couldn’t even dance. To boot, the music was at a deafening level– i’m talking ear-drum-splitting stuff… orrrr I’m getting to old for this shhh-! Drinks were strong(yay) but expensive(argh). I RECOMMEND– trying to find another lounge, but when all else fails, desperate times call for Funky Buddha. EXTRATIP– Coat check is mandatory.
