Fuego was unexpectedly good. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised and it’s close to our house so DOUBLEBONUS! First off, this place has plenty of street parking in the area so that’s great, plus it’s huge so seating shouldn’t ever be an issue. The margarita options are plentiful and the food was delish. I have had better, I would be lying if I said otherwise, but I will definitely be going back and enjoying the grub n drinks here! I had the fish tacos, nummy… Adam had something steaky. Both were great. Margs were A-MAZING! Definitely our new neighborhood Mexican joint!

The food here is absolutely delicious, but the prices are a bit steep. To counteract some of the cost, I went ahead and bought a gift certificate for $ 25. it was worth it. We arrived about 7pm on a Friday evening, and the place was pretty deserted — just one table outside and a couple inside tables taken. Hmmm… not too good of a sign, but since the restaurant is pretty huge(outdoor area, restaurant area, and a bar area with TVs), I was thinking maybe everyone was in the bar? In any case, we were seated, and our waiter came by right away. We started by ordering margaritas, which I have to admit were quite strong. I had the Blue Azul and it was yummy, but be cautious. It was very, very sweet. Then, we had the tableside guacamole service. It was by far the freshest tasting guacamole that I’ve ever had. Probably because they make it right in front of you! You can make it spicy or mild and we chose medium spicy. Aside from the higher than average cost, the other reason I knocked a star off the review was the spicy factor. I love seriously spicy food, but the guacamole had zero heat. Same thing with the house salsa. It wasn’t bland, but it just didn’t pack any zip. That was disappointing. My meal was good though. I ordered the quesadilla with scallops and shrimp. The flavors blended together perfectly, and the portion size was huge. After chips, salsa, and guac, I ended up taking ¾ of my meal home with me. I also enjoyed the cute little taco boat that the black beans on my plate were in. The wait staff is very friendly. The woman making the guacamole was very nice, and asked a ton of questions so she could make the guac exactly how we wanted it. Our waiter was very kind too, checking on us a lot and making sure we had everything we needed. Total for two margaritas, guacamole service, and two entrees came to about $ 40 when adding in the gift certificate. Not too bad, but I don’t think I would have been happy had I paid full price.

Bravo Fuego for helping me get on the road to recovery! After a day of eating nothing but saltines and KFC mashed potatoes and gravy, I am happy to report that I can stomach real food now! I first tried Fuego at their other, now closed, location in Arlington Heights. This was where I ate a fish taco that tasted exactly like a Filet-O-Fish. Some of you may shun McDonald’s, but I am a lover, especially when it comes to the Filet-O-Fish. So, after some initial tears when the Arlington Heights location closed, I had my sights set on some fish tacos tonight. Fuego lives on! Hooray! Here is the rundown on the ton of food I ordered: — Horchata: Skip. A little chalky tasting. — Limonada: Drink. Sour things make me happy. — Guacamole: Avocado is fruit from heaven. Eat this. — Shrimp Ceviche: It has a lot of tomato in it. Not chunks of tomato either. More like ketchup or tomato paste? I enjoyed it but will give fair warning that it is not like a traditional ceviche. — Fish Tacos: EAT. These didn’t taste exactly like the filet-o-fish taco of my dreams, but is an excellent fish taco. Crunchy cabbage. Yummy. — Arracherra: If this is on a menu, I will order it every time. It was delicious. I’ve never received so much meat before on a plate! I originally had some leftovers, but just ate half a skirt steak in front of the dogs.(I am so mean). But this says good things about the arracherra, no? Service was a little slow, but very friendly. There was some concert going on next door(upstairs?) at V-Live, so we had a great time sitting by the window people watching. Will definitely be returning for some more skirt steak and rice, maybe a taco or 2.

The perfect menu every time must include… Tamalitos Surtidos & Molcajeteada de Aguayon I tried a molcajete dinner alike this one but MUCH better in Saginaw, Mi. Once I came to know that Fuego offered one also, I had to try it. Almost every time I’ve been back to Fuego, this dish is almost always ordered and it’s a hit! To love Fuego is to love their dishes which include their mole sauces. Anything else is just average or at least that’s been the consensus from those that I’ve come across. A Unilocal friend just told me the other day that she ordered some random Mexican items she’s used to and everything tasted like it came out of a prepackaged bag. I was surprised to hear that, but, I don’t order typical dishes here. I scoped the reviews and photos and ordered based on others experiences and that proved to be the tastiest way to go. So, for those that know me or care to try Fuego my way. please try the dishes I’ve put forth. You’ll love it. Also get a margarita or pina padre, you’ll love’em. Service has been hit or miss for me. I’ve been there on weekdays and wondered WTF and then on weekends and been impressed with their service. The stars are mainly for the food and the attempt of the place to be awesome. I hope management reads reviews. It’d be awesome if service picked it up a notch and matched the goodness of their food. Not everything on the menu is good, reread the paragraphs above to locate the good ones.

I really wanted to love this place, I swear! There are plenty of good things going on at Fuego. The space is huge, and there are a ton of TV’s. The area(near the Congress Theater) is a little sketchy, but not too bad. If you’re willing to dodge a bunch of hipster bicyclists while you cross the street, you should be fine. Seriously, what the heck is up with Milwaukee Ave and people on bikes? Anyway, we were surprised to see so many TV’s in a Mexican place, but I’m not really going to complain about that. It was just unexpected. Service wise, our waiter was excellent. He quickly explained the specials, but we were happy that he notified us that the specials were no good with any coupons such as Groupon, YouSwoop, etc. It was great to know that in advance. Throughout the meal, our waters were filled quickly and our plates removed promptly. The waiter was definitely well trained and great at his job. I ordered a drink that was basically tequila and horchata, with a little Kahlua mixed in. It was pretty good. Good presentation with the drinks, as they are made tableside. Cool. Expect $ 7-$ 10 for a mixed drink. They’re fairly large though, so that makes it worth it. The pours did not appear to be very heavy, but I wasn’t looking to get wasted, so that was fine with me. Okay, on to the food. For starters, the chips & salsa were EXCELLENT. I’m definitely picky when it comes to chips & salsa, but the smoky salsa at Fuego is now among my favorites. As for the rest of the meal… Meh. Honestly, if I hadn’t gotten dinner and just stuck with the drinks & chips/salsa, the review probably would have gone up to 4 or 5 stars. But now that I’ve had the food, I know that it is nothing special. I ordered the chipotle arrachera, medium well. First off, when I received it there was definitely plenty of bright pink on the inside, so I wasn’t a fan of that. The steak itself was decent, but I’ve certainly had tons better. I didn’t like the beans much either. All in all, the food was a disappointment. And at the prices they’re charging(expect $ 12-$ 25 for an entrée), it’s a little over-priced if you ask me. If you can find a coupon or get some sort of discount, that might make it a little more worth it.

We recently visited Fuego on a weeknight for a belated birthday dinner & overall had a good, not great experience. First off, this place is huge. They had a whole wing closed off and we were ushered into a long dining area lined with TVs, which I wasn’t really expecting at a Mexican restaurant/tequila lounge but that was fine by me. Anytime I can eat my enchiladas AND get my Wheel of Fortune fix in is great. While we were there they had the TV sound off, and had music in the background. I’m curious as to what the TV sound situation is on Sundays for football games, etc. Our server was very pleasant and promptly told us the specials. I’m giving this place one star alone for having the server give us the disclaimer that the specials could not be used if using any coupon(we were using a You Swoop) so that was good to know. I skipped the long list of alcoholic beverages on the drinks menu and instead ordered an agua de horchata which was topped with cinnamon(nice touch) but not the best or worst that I’ve tried. I think that was the recurring theme in our visit. A couple of people in our party ordered tequila drinks and the server made them at the table which was a nice touch. The best part of Fuego for me was probably the warm tortilla chips and chunky, smoky-flavored salsa. Free refills and very tasty! For dinner, I ordered the green chicken enchiladas and seriously got enough food to feed a family of 4! The enchilada meal came with 3 corn tortilla enchiladas, and a very generous side of rice and beans. The enchiladas were HUGE, bursting with shredded chicken. While the chicken was abundant(to the point where the enchilada was bursting), pretty good and moist, it was lacking in flavor. The biggest disappointment was the green sauce over the enchiladas; it was very bland, not spicy and just didn’t taste like much. I’d say the salsa from the chips and salsa was way tastier. Since I had gorged myself on the bottomless chips and salsa, I was only able to eat one of the enchiladas and about half of the Mexican rice which was also just okay — not brittle and dry, but not tasty and soft either. So all in all, the main theme of dinner here was that it was good, not great. I give them props for the service though, very friendly! The take home points for Fuego are the following: * Large space, nice décor * Fast & friendly service * Excellent chips & salsa * Huge portions * Mediocre enchiladas & rice * Big menu * Lots of fun margaritas & other tequila drinks * Expensive(especially when you add alcoholic drinks to the mix)

I usually despise anything that’s considered fine dining when it comes to Mexican food. The idea of a fancy, sit down Mexican meal is like nails on a chalkboard to me. From my experience, the best Mexican food comes from Hole in the wall restaurants from hell. The Best Taco’s and Burrito’s come served in Red baskets covered with nothing but wax paper, but I have to admit, I enjoyed my visit to Fuego. The décor is beautiful. The walls are covered with beautiful Mexican art. The place is dark, but yet comfortable. The Host who seated us was pleasant and our server was wonderful. There is a fine line between being attentive and annoying, and she walked that line perfectly. She made sure our glasses and bowl’s of hot sauce were filled. For our appetizer we went with the Cazuelitas de Queso Fundido. It was a giant bowl of Chihuahua Cheese covered with Chorizo. The Cheese was rich and delicious. It seemed like the Cheese just kept re-generating. It didn’t look like a lot of food, but by the time we were done, we were on the brink of being stuffed. For my entrée, I went with their Mexican, Steak Burrito. The meat was tender, juicy and delicious. The portions of steak were quite generous. It was covered with Mexican Cheese and stuffed with lettuce, Avacado and sour cream. Is it one of the best Burrito’s I ever had? No, but it was pretty good. They also gave us a free bowl of Chicken soup that was amazing. The problem is that after the massive appetizer and the soup, I had no room left for our entrée. But it did taste delicious when I ate if for lunch the next day. The Bottom line on Fuego is: If you are looking for a fun night out and a different take on Mexican food, give Fuego a try. The food is good, the service is wonderful and the portions are huge. It’s a meal you can enjoy for three days.

I was initially a little concerned at the low ratings Fuego has here. But for you, dear readers, I am willing to cast danger aside! Risk life and limb! Snicker in the face of peril and dread! All for bringing you the most thorough and detailed report I can! You’re welcome. Anyway. After reading about half of the reviews here, I bought a gift certificate(to lessen the pain if we were going to regret the trip there). We arrived to what is the Mexican version of the Alhambra Palace restaurant. Huge, over-decorated, a tad obnoxiously grandiose. Oh noes! In my experience I have learned that some places try to divert your attention from the mediocre food by using colourful, shiny distractions. I decided to not let these sly sensational tricks cloud my judgment. We were seated by a pleasant gentleman and greeted by our even more pleasant server. I had warned dear husband that portion size might be an issue here, but he saw Chorizo Queso Fundido on the menu and would not be swayed. The dish was of course, massive, but it was quite delicious with a good quality chorizo sprinkled on top. I ordered the«mole of the day» for my entrée, which was Mole Negro over chicken. Husband ordered a burrito. Suddenly we were presented with a cup of complimentary chicken soup, which was totally unexpected. The soup was REALLY good, with big chunks of vegetables and chicken in a highly fragrant broth. I hadn’t planned on eating it, but it was too damn good to pass up. Of course, once my entrée arrived all I could do was take a few bites before I was full. (and while the entrée was delicious with a very good mole sauce, it arrived on a freaking PLATTER with at least 2 cups of rice, beans and 2 huge chicken pieces. See what I mean about portions?) The reason I can’t bestow 5 stars is due to the portions — yeah I know they sort of go along with the over the top nature of the place, but things like that bother me — as well as the mojito I ordered. Big, delicious, well made, yes. More than one teaspoon of alcohol, no. And this was a $ 9 drink. So bottom line is, yeah I am sure there are better places in the area. But if you want a weeks worth of leftovers, this is definitely the place to come. The certificate makes it a really good deal too.

hmmm I don’t really know how I feel about this place. The hugeness of the restaurant is awkward on a week night when it’s mostly empty. We had a nice server who was very talkative. Sad that we couldn’t get drink specials with our groupon. I really wanted to try their sangria! The ceviche was waaay too sweet, and the chips were almost stale.(bad news!) However, the stuffed chicken breast I got was tasty, and really awesome the next day heated up! It came with super yummy mashed potatoes, too. Warning that portions are as huge as the restaurant. You might want to share and get an appetizer… or just plan on having lunch ready for the next day. And you will want to save that for lunch, trust me, the prices are on the high scale. I want to come back for the dancing upstairs. I think that might be more fun than sitting downstairs in the vast, chilly dining room.

Went there with a coupon. Was a week night and we sat in the bar for dinner. The tequila selection, drink list, food and knowledge of our waitress was top notch. The atmosphere was cool to. The amount of food was a little over kill but I suppose you can look at it as getting a lot for your dollar. If you go have dinner there, get your to-go box ready! And ride the bus because the margaritas are wonderful and you will want to try them all! The sampler mole our waitress gave us when she found out it was our first time there was a real treat. I will be back and now I know which mole sauce I just must have on my entrée! Thanks Fuego and for the great dining experience!

My husband and I came here for a drink and we sat at the bar. The tenders were really nice and talkative even though they were super busy. My husband had the best mojito since we were in Costa Rica in 2008. It was delicious and freshly made with a mortar and pestle. My raspberry margarita was not very good. It was really tart and I couldn’t get past the taste. It also seemed like it was made with a ton of ice. I wish I had gotten the mojito instead. Warm chips and delicious salsa were placed by us shortly after we got our drinks. I definitely want to come back here and try the food!

Ok, so I really REALLY wanted to love this place, so much so that I gave it two separate visits. On the first visit, there was a street festival going on. Fuego was empty, however you could hear the jammin’ loud music of two bands(one on each end of the street) so loud that conversation was impossible. Not Fuego’s fault, so I wouldn’t knock them for that. I ordered the highly expensive $ 21.95 Filete Morito, which is essentially 2 pork tenderloins. It was just ok, if not a little below average. Chipotle potatoes were not good. I washed it all down with the weakest margarita that I had ever had, especially at a cost of $ 9.95. Ouch. The wait staff was nice, and prompt, and I thank them for making our experience a good one. So, fast forward to my second visit. I(like so many others) had 2 Groupons to this place, and they were expiring in a week. I went with my girlfriend, and we decided to invite a second couple, so that we could use the second Groupon before it expired. The Groupon clearly states one Groupon per table, so we asked the hostess for either tables next to each other, or if we were seated together, to be able to use both Groupons. They seated us all at the same table. Great I thought. I ordered the Pollo Poblano this time, and it was actually pretty good, and at $ 11.95, I would surely order it again, if I were to ever go back there, which I won’t. Here’s why. So we made sure we got split checks, so that we could use both Groupons that were expiring soon. The waiter picked up our checks, only to return several minutes later to let us know that we could only use one Groupon per table. After arguing the fact that we had initially asked for 2 tables, and we all ordered entrees and several drinks, I asked to plead my case to the manager. He held his ground, and only allowed us to use one Groupon. He was courteous enough to post date the expiration of our Groupon until the end of the year. That would have been great, if I had every intended on coming back. So, we all bellied up to the bar, ordered the lowest margin, highest cost drinks we could, and spent $ 24.50 of the $ 25 Groupon, and left. If we would have initially ordered our entrees at the table, and our drinks for the night at the bar, we would have been allowed to use both Groupons. What a stupid rule. A rule that will result in 4 less people ever eating at Fuego again. No more $ 10 half shot margaritas for us… I give his place the extra star because the wait staff was AWESOME. They were prompt, understanding, and fun to talk to. Thanks go out to them for helping us forget a bad situation.

One of the first things I was taught in Statistics for Political Science class back in college was that you can not draw a trend conclusion based on one data point. Now, I think I apply this and take it too far in my personal life sometimes. Just as an example, I’ve been known to say, «how do you know we don’t make a good couple, we only dated once; and it was only for six months.» But, that lunacy aside, I’ve found, in general, that the«rule of one data point» is a good theory. Therefore I, personally, don’t like to judge a place after one visit(one data point). Though I don’t judge people who judge«at once.» That would be judgemental(and slightly post-modern).
Anyway, my most recent«case study» is Fuego. I went there with a group of people for my birthday about two months ago and the dining was terrible. I got some chile rellenos that were the most overdone, oiliest, disgusting things I’d ever had at a Mexican restaurant. They were so bad that I felt like apologizing to everyone for choosing this place and making them waste their hard earned money on such an expensive, though awful, experience. Luckily for Fuego, I chose not to use their Groupon that I had purchased on my Mexifail birthday. On the day it expired(now this a set of data points to draw a pattern from), I decided to use this Groupon to have a relaxing, and hopefully less gross, meal with some margaritas. The frozen banana margarita came highly recommended(thanks Paige W.) and I enjoyed every moment of my strong but tasty treat(even if it did come in a very small glass). To be fair, the Pisco Sour was the only thing I enjoyed the first time. So I feel free concluding on two data points that they do drinks right — albeit at almost $ 10.00 a piece. And they have a seemingly fabulous patio on Milwaukee to drink them on. The food, however, was just okay this time. I got an enchiladas verdes made vegetarian(just a note, they have a separate vegetarian menu on which every dish contains mushrooms, ick). They were tasty, smothered in cheese(though I didn’t see the sauce), and the portion was huge(both times I’ve been served enough food for carry out). Honestly, though, I felt like I could get something just as good for one-quarter of the price up Milwaukee at one of the many taquerias. Passing this place on a regular basis, I never pictured from the outside that the prices would be so high. It’s nothing that fancy to look at. Inside it’s no fancier either. The plating, the décor, the service — it’s all just sort of regular. I’m honestly left wondering what you’re paying for in what is basically the equivalent in quality of Chi-Chis or On The Border Cantina. Is the customer paying for the fact that they make mole or guacamole at the table for you? The training for the waitstaff can’t be that expensive. Are they worried someone’s going to be offended by the naked photos in the men’s room so they’re building up a fund to pay for the potential lawsuit? I don’t know. All I know is that Fuego is apparently hit-or-miss and not entirely worth the money. And I don’t need a third data point to decide that.

A fancier Mexican restaurant with prices to match. While that’s not always a bad thing, at Fuego there doesn’t seem to be a happy medium for the diner that just wants some cheap tacos and the one who wants to try the special moles who doesn’t care what the cost is. Moles to me, define a good Mexican restaurant, and I don’t mind paying more for them. But recently in Milwaukee, at one of my favorite mole places, I also got an amazing order of Tacos al Pastor for under $ 7. Price does not give Mexican food it’s amazing quotient, the chef does. Fortunately the chefs at Fuego know how to do good moles, as my chicken enchiladas were smothered in a nutty, chocolaty mole that was very good. My one bite of the skirt steak was heaven. Their jalapeño(black) salsa was just okay. One batch was mild, the next one that came out was spicier, but also salty. This place is good for groups, and the décor is very cool, especially the murals at the entrance. I may be back to try other things, once I’ve saved up enough and have a taste for moles and margaritas, but with so many great options for Mexican food in this City, my trips to Fuego will probably be infrequent.

I used to frequent the Fuego locaton in Arlington Heights until I got the sad news that it had closed. I loved it there! So we decided to give this new location a try today. The entrance is a little confusing… when you first walk in there are two stairways heading to the second floor and you’re not really sure where to go. Then we noticed the hosts standing straight ahead on the main floor in what appears to be a doorway.(Apparently, there’s a nightclub on the second floor that is not owned or managed by Fuego.) We were taken to the left where there is a huge bar. I believe there was another seating area to the right as well. The service was friendly. The food was generally okay… it needed a little more flavor, in my opinion. Although, you can never lose with the table-side guacamole… YUM! I’ll tell you now… one order is barely enough for four people. The coffee was also wonderfully delicious and served in a giant mug that I wish I could’ve taken home. Of course, it was my first cup of the day and I needed to get rid of my raging headache. Ahhhh. My son and I shared the pre-fixe menu that is offered on Sundays only… $ 30 per couple. We got to choose one appetizer, two entrees, and one dessert(which was enough for all four of us) from a set menu. I thought the price was well worth it. We’ll definitely be giving Fuego another try. I’d love to just go with some friends and hang out at the bar. Some drinks with the guac and maybe dessert sounds like a fun night.

I’d heard a lot about Fuego Mexican Grill opening in Logan Square and wanted to try it out. One day I was riding bike around town and it was lunch time, so I stopped in on a whim. I tried the Tamalitos Surtidos, a pairing of chicken and wild mushroom tamales covered with their signature mole poblano and mole amarillo. I’d heard the moles at Fuego were good and wanted to give them a try. I’m happy to report my meal was delicious, but there were a few things I didn’t like about my experience. 1. There’s no lunch menu. I was by myself and didn’t want a large, heavy meal or to spend $ 20+, so I had to go with an appetizer for lunch. 2. The place is huge and was absolutely empty aside from one other table that left while I was there. 3. As you can see from the description of the tamales above, there were two different kinds and two different moles. When the waitress brought my food out I asked her to tell me which was which and she didn’t even know anything about what she was serving, that there even were two different things on the plate or anything. 4. I opted to sit outside since it was nice out. This was kind of weird and uncomfortable because the restaurant is still on a stretch of Milwaukee Avenue that is a bit seedy. A homeless lady hung around my table and asked me for money while I was eating. The valet and everyone else just sat around. I don’t know if they could have done anything, but it’s really awkward for someone to beg you for money to buy a meal while you’re eating a meal. Despite of these things, I think I’d go back, but probably at night and probably with more people… and not sit outside.

After passing by Fuego on the way home from the Western Blue Line stop, my man and I decided to check it out for an early dinner. It was so early, in fact, that we were the first customers… Our waiter, Kevin, was about six feet five inches of super cordial. The menu was really, really long, so it took me a while to even narrow down categories of what I might possibly want. They have several moles«on tap», but I’m not much of a mole lady… I eventually chickened out and got a spinach salad. I was happy to see that they had a fair amount of vegetarian and pescetarian friendly options. Lots of delicious looking salad choices. FH got the enchiladas, but declared he could’ve gotten similar quality, yet cheaper ones at Zacatecas. I really enjoyed my salad, which was topped with carmelized onions, sesame seeds, sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese. The salsa with which we had our chips was really tasty too… Apparently, they smoke the vegetables(including carrot! Unexpecte!) before they make them into that delicious salsa. All in all, we enjoyed what we had and I would go back to try another one of their salads, but I think I’d like to take advantage of the huge space by inviting a few more friends to join us.

Very pleasant, flavorful meal. Great place for a large party. This place is huge! The tableside guac is good, but could’ve been a little spicier(even tho we ordered it spicy) and it needed salt. I didn’t think it was any better than Adobo’s. For dinner, the menu is huge. They have standards like burritos, enchiladas, tamales and they also have a lot of traditional things… mole, arrechera, etc. My friend and I each had the arrechera, one with chipotle sauce and the other with chihuaua, mushrooms and onions. The portions were large and came with black beans, poblano potatoes(YUM!) and tortillas. Very good quality meat. My other guest had the chicken tamales, which she said were good. Some of the prices were definitely on the high end, but the things we ordered were around the $ 20 range, which I felt for the quality and quantity were reasonable. The only negative was that a Mariachi band started playing toward the end of the meal and we had to start shouting to hear each other and there were only a few tables there. I’d say it’s a great place for a date or some drinks.

I had heard good things about the suburban outpost of Fuego(located in Arlington Heights) — but since I never get up that way– imagine my delight in hearing that they were opening a location in the city. First of all– Fuego is huge. It covers three levels that will seat over 300 people(!) a huge bar area and a tequila lounge opening in the lower level any day now. The décor is typical for a Mexican restaurant– and we were able to snag a prime table by the windows– so I was a happy camper. Fuego is known for a couple of key things– first– table side guacamole and they do it well. A cart is wheeled over to your table with all the fresh fixings lining the top– avocados, tomatoes, onions, peppers, etc. They ask if you want it spicy or not and then go to work. Using a mortar/pestle system the guac is prepared and served in a stone bowl and was quite delicious! They also have complimentary chips and a smokey, chipotle salsa. The other thing they are known for is a long list of mole sauces ranging from fruity to spicy. The server was helpful in helping to distinguish between the many varieties. The menu is varied offering up the standard fare of fajitas, enchiladas, tostadas, etc. But I would say the real winners on the menu are the house specialties and specials of the day where the chef prepares more interesting entrees. We chose the spicy shrimp which came with Chipotle mashed potatoes and the Arrachera Chihuahua(skirt steak) that came topped with onions, mushrooms and cheese and was accompanied by black beans and poblano potatoes. Both entrees were quite good– with a wide range of flavors and a bit of a kick. They actually reminded me of what I had eaten at an upscale Mexican restaurant on my last visit to Mexico City. Serving sizes are huge so go with an appetite or be prepared to take some home. They also have an amazing margarita list –perfect for this weather we’ve been having. My friend had the Reina Raspberry margarita which was tequila, muuddled raspberries and chambord(frozen, refreshing with quite a kick!) while I went with a more traditional Margarita on the rocks which was exactly what I needed! A couple of those and all was right with my world. Service was ok. Our server was new, hadn’t tasted most of the menu(and I am one who always asks for a recommendation) but she was trying. Parking on this stretch of Milwaukee is usually pretty easy. There is also valet parking available for $ 10. Know before you go that this is not cheap Mexican food. Dinner for two with a few drinks each was about $ 100.(excluding tip) If you are looking for typical Mexican food– hit up any one of the taquieras in town. But if you are looking for Mexican entrees reminiscent of those you might find in Mexico City, give Fuego a try. And keep your eyes peeled for that Tequila Lounge. You might just find me there sipping my favorite tequila!

My boyfriend & I went here Sunday evening for dinner. The outdoor seating area was very nice. We ordered the tableside guac. I thought they would prepare it at the table… hence the name tableside. Anyway, it was fresh & tasty. I ordered the veggie tamales with sauteed, garlic spinach and my boyfriend ordered the steak tacos with rice & beans. It took a long while before our food was brought out, by the time it came we were full from the chips, salsa & guac. My meal was good. My boyfriend’s meal was so-so. The black beans were spicy not flavorful just spicy. His tacos were oooookay, for half the cost he could have gone to La Pasadita. I waiter was pushy with the drinks both before our meal and afterwards. Overall, not a bad place. The outdoor seating area is a huge plus especially since Logan Square lacks that. I know the cuisine is different, but next time I’ll go to Irazu.
