Unclear and Questionable Warranty for Frigidaire Major Appliances Fellow Unilocalers… once again, sharing life’s lessons with other homeowners who own, or are planning to purchase a dishwasher, range, refrigerator, or other major appliance, be advised that Frigidaire’s warranty may not cover certain parts and/or components that have failed prematurely or, have shown signs of breakage due to no fault of you, the consumer. Despite Frigidaire stating that parts and labor are included with their extended service agreement(«for covered repairs») their fine print does not spell out, in detail, those parts that are EXCLUDED from their extended warranty coverage. For the purposes of this discussion, and review, I refer to our Frigidaire dishwasher, Model No. FGS365EC, with all stainless steel interior and front panel. Problems began when we found that the bottom rack was not sliding in and out smoothly. Upon closer inspection, several of the wheels that permit the rack to roll in and out were found to be damaged; their axles had broken as well. It’s important to note here that the wheels are replaceable components that simply snap into place onto the axles of the bottom rack. A call was made to customer service to discuss this issue. An extended warranty was in place at the time of the call. Customer Service advised us that wheels are not covered in their warranty as Frigidaire classifies them as «non-functional». They also told me that they were unable to identify part numbers for wheels as they are a component of the rack. Upon hearing this, I then requested that I be provided with a replacement bottom rack. Again, Customer Service insisted that the bottom rack is a «non-functional item» and I would have to pay for it if I wanted it. I debated this response by indicating that the rack is the primary component for supporting dishes, pots and pans, and utensils in order for them to come into contact with water via the spray arms; how then can Frigidaire state that the racks are«non-functional»? I received no response to my debate. Should you attempt to communicate with Customer Service at the basic level, it will be a very frustrating experience attempting to convince them that certain parts are, in fact, required in order to operate the appliance and, moreover, to have the contents washed, cleaned, and dried as intended. At this juncture, I contacted the corporate offices of Electrolux(980−236−2000) at which time I relayed the details of my discussion with Customer Service. I also pointed out that the utensil baskets have a thin plastic mesh at the bottom for draining water. This mesh had partially broken permitting items such as knives to protrude down and possibly damage the spinning arm. I then requested a replacement bottom rack which comes with the wheels. Corporate understood my point and arranged to have a new rack shipped to me, complete with the wheels at no charge. Note that the rack included the utensil baskets which, by the way, are made in two pieces which snap together.(I saved the original bottom rack as it still had several intact wheels and one utensil basket attached to it.) It appears then, that Frigidaire arbitrarily applies the term«non-functional part» as a catch-all to avoid replacing parts at no cost to the customer which, in my opinion, is a form of false advertising. When it comes to «functional» parts, clearly the top and bottom racks are the very components which physically support all of the soiled tableware that needs to be washed. Perhaps Frigidaire excludes the racks(and the wheels) from their warranty for this very reason. Prior to purchasing any Frigidaire appliance then, it would be prudent to have all EXCLUDED items given to the customer, in writing, prior to the sale.
