Very thorough and trustworthy. Dr. Wantanabe has provided me excellent service, advice and recommended products that have been very beneficial to my eye health. His office may not have the most modern décor or amenities, but please don’t let that deter you. He is friendly and knowledgeable and I have yet to have any complaints. Highly recommended!

Dr. Watanabe is a blessing to the Edgewater neighborhood. I feel so grateful to have found him. I took my son with special needs to him for an eye checkup and he was just amazing with him and I was quite happily surpised. His office is only a few blocks from us so I am even more thrilled that he is in our neighborhood. His staff is great and we can wait to go back to pick up our glasses. If you want a thorough, professional eye exam, and no nonsense, then this is the place for you! The office isn’t fancy, but Dr. Watanabe is very good. I hadn’t had an eye exam in over 30 years, but was put at ease very quickly. He patiently explained the type of glasses that he recommended, and I never felt like I was being over-​sold. He accepts most insurance, and is generally a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended!

Dr. Watanabe was terrific. He was thorough and made me feel very comfortable that I was receiving excellent care. I’ve been to other optometrists and none were as knowledgeable, patient and kind. This is not a swanky high-​end shop, so if that’s what you’re looking for, go elsewhere. HIs décor is simple and clean, and if you want an outstanding optometrist, go see Dr. Watanabe. He has a fine selection of frames and is up-​to-​date on the latest in the field in terms of lenses and contacts. I can’t recommend him highly enough. If you believe in supporting a local business and want excellent care, look no further. One note, Dr. Watanabe is a one-​man operation, so he may take a phone call during your visit. He keeps them short and remember that this also helps to make his prices so reasonable — if he had to a pay a receptionist those costs would simply be passed along to you. I am so pleased to have found Dr. Watanabe.

Dr. Watanabe is very attentive, and seemed to really care that the contacts I was buying were the best for my eyes (He even insisted on checking up on the fit via phone because he wanted to make sure I wasn’t stuck for an entire year with contacts that didn’t work for me). Great small business and seems to accept a wide range of insurance providers!

Dr. Watanabe is very professional and seems more knowledgable than most optometrists I’ve ever been to. His customer service is excellent and he is attuned and respectful of cost concerns. As other reviewers have noted he is the only one in the office so he did answer a phone call very briefly during my appointment but I feel it was in a very respectful manner. He is running his own business and does it well, more power to him.

I went here with my wife to get eye exams for both of us and glasses for her. Dr. Watanabe is very friendly and professional. He has a good selection of frames. I got contact lenses from him. The décor in the place could use some updates, but hey, customer service is well worth the visit. It looks like he is short on staff though, since he was handling phones and the reception desk as well. I think it’s something a lot of businesses are going through in the economy. Ordering of contact lenses and glasses was quick. Would recommend this place.

I came here for my first eye exam in probably 20 years. Dr. Watanabe is very professional, has a convenient schedule, and is located 10 minutes from my house. Although I suppose he could update the interior décor, the office is clean and well-​organized. Dr. W was interested in my eye fatigue symptoms and told me all about what my eyes were doing (I have an astigmatism — who knew?!), which I found very interesting. The appointment probably took less than half an hour, and he charges $ 65 for a basic exam.

Dr Watanabe is very thorough and professional. His prices are good and he has a great selection of frames. The glasses were made pretty quickly and the best part was we didn’t have to leave the neighborhood and we got to support a great local business.
Don’t be fooled by the paneling in the lobby, it’s a great place.
