This place is delicious. Great food and cheap prices. it is also BYOB which is a plus. I recommend the steak fajitas.

El Ojo de Agua gives«$ 5 footlong» a whole new meaning. Here, «$ 5 footlong» means $ 5 for a gigantic footlong burrito filled with delicious ingredients, prepared for you just as quickly as it takes to order a sandwich at Subway. Beyond that, El Ojo de Agua offers some really great torta sandwiches, including my favorite, eggs & chorizo. If you eat at the restaurant, you’ll receive free chips and salsa which is also very good. Their desserts, particularly the tres leches cake, are worth every calorie. Another great reason to come here is for their horchata, which is perfect for hot summer days. Overall, the food here is just solid all around, and the service is quick. 4 stars instead of 5 because the food is sometimes inconsistent, the menu could use a little more variety and originality, and I don’t care much for their Quesidillas. That being said… there are lots of great options for Mexican food up and down Western and Fullerton, but this is my absolute favorite place to go for quick, inexpensive, and most importantly tasty Mexican food.

The theme for today is, third time’s a charm. I got here with my friend after trying two places that were supposed to be open, but were closed. Thankfully it all worked out as I remembered about this place from a friend’s recommendation. We got in here 10 minutes before closing and though we were willing to do take out, they gladly told us to have a seat. Since tacos was the mood, tacos it was. I got one each of a chorizo, chicken, and steak taco and got the extras with it. I didn’t realize getting the next up extras was gonna be so much, but they packed in a lot. The tortillas on the tacos were great and everything just hit the spot. I’ve passed by this too many times, and now I’m kicking myself for not having been here earlier. Oh well, I fully know about it now and can’t wait to try more of what they have

Loving this new place! They just opened up across the street from me and they seriously have THEBEST authentic tacos on the block. My boyfriend is also a huge fan and went a stint of eating at this place almost every day one week just so he could try out the full menu. The regular tacos are great, but the tacos especiales are definitely special. Get them fully loaded for a real treat!

Remarkable. I visited El Ojo de Agua after reading about it online, first in a «Cheap Eats» write up and then here on Unilocal. It’s east to see how this fine establishment has only warranted the highest acclaims from my fellow Unilocalers. I opted for the tacos. One chicken, one steak and one chorizo. They were divine. The regular tacos come with the meat, cilantro and onions. Hot sauce is served in plastic bottles. The higher-priced tacos, well above $ 2 each, have cheese, sour cream and avocado. I saw no need for the supreme taco– the regular is packed with so much flavor and is such a bargain that there’s no need to go for the upgrade. It’s the simplicity of the tacos here that make them so good. I usually lean on steak at Mexican taquerias, but at El Ojo de Agua, the chicken is second to none. It was outstanding. I enjoyed the chorizo much less than the other two– it seemed greasier. The tortillas were perfectly cooked and flavorful, the meat was seasoned perfectly and the cilantro-onion combination was perfect. All in all, the flavor was divine. The only warning is the onions– they loaded them, far too much for me. The onion dominated the taco. I removed them and next time and I’ll ask for a tiny but of onion. This is the type of restaurant a consumer should flock to. Excellent food for an excellent price. It’s a small, Mom and Pop Mexican joint in Chicago. I suppose those can be a dime a dozen, but that’s exactly it. If there’s so many taco joints to choose from now, why not head to the best of the best? It’s 2010 and as of now, La Pasadita is in the shadows for me. El Ojo de Agua is my new«taco joint.»

I haven’t been to all of the taco joints on this strip of Western, but I’d be surprised if this isn’t the best. Or the second best, at least. Keep in mind, I don’t eat a lot of these things, especially meats, but I can tell from quality and freshness of ingredients. If you are a vegan don’t bother coming here, unless you want some fruit juice. A vegetarian can make a comfortable meal, if you like cheese and avocado. A lying, cheating vegetarian can get a tuna torta. A lying, cheating, hypocritical(but really hungry and packing to move and come on I haven’t had a bite of meat in at least 2.5 weeks) can get a chicken taco in addition to that tuna torta. The reason for the taco was because someone had to get one because my companion got a chicken quesadilla and a chorizo burrito. Someone had to try a taco, so we could write an accurate review. I stepped up to the plate. We got take-out. We must have walked out with 10 pounds of food from just those 4 items, the bag was so heavy! So its best to plan on either sharing or having leftovers. My tuna torta was great, if you are wondering, its basically canned tuna on there. It tasted like albacore. No mayo or weird tuna salad. I wish the bread was a little thinner but that’s being nit-picky. Its a sandwich, its not supposed to be carb free. Great avocado, jalapenos, sour cream, cheese, all wonderful. They screwed up the chicken taco by putting onions on it when I requested none, but maybe this was a sign from above that I’m not supposed to eat chicken. So instead I kept picking at my companion’s chorizo burrito, which was the biggest burrito I’ve ever seen in my life. It was good, but maybe a little too much rice. The quesadilla is for when you really don’t care about your health. It was oozing cheese, big huge globs of it. Again, I kept picking at it. Both of us did, long after we were full. So it’s good food. The interior is nice and bright and clean, nice staff, I think they came here from Oakland, CA if you read an article hanging on the wall. If you don’t know yet, they make their own tortillas. I would go just for those.

This place has the feel more of a roadside taqueria than a restaurant or café. I came here on a Sunday and ordered some tacos and a watermelon juice. The juice was fresh, unadulterated and just plain delicious. I will have to come back and try the papaya and mango ones. My tacos were cooked to order and loaded with cilantro and onion, just the way I like ‘em. The tacos were tasty and not too greasy/fatty and very reasonably priced. In fact that day some of the juices were on special, and they had a «buy two and get one free» taco promotion. My entire meal with a 21 oz juice was less than 6 bucks! And I forgot to mention the free chips and salsa and über-friendly waitstaff. Lastly, there’s a liquor store across the street should you want to complement your wonderful meal with some booze.

This place recently opened up just down the street from us. Thank our lucky stars for that. When my(Mexican) husband and I go to taquerias we eat, well, tacos. The tacos at Ojo de Agua are great… authentically prepared, good-quality meats, fresh, and delicious. The carne asada is fantastic and their tacos al pastor outshine any taqueria in a several block radius. It’s a little plain Jane on the inside, but I’ve never met a fancy schmancy«upscale» taqueria worth my time. Check it out!

Straight-up, delicious food. To be clear, this is a quick serve latin-food joint. Maybe 12 tables and none too fancy. But cuss the food is good! Came here for a late lunch and was expecting it to be a little nicer. Being on the west edge of Bucktown it’s right between gentrified trendy places and down-home latin neighborhoods. Definitely more of a Latin feel. My lady got the chicken asada salad which was colorful and fresh. But the sandwiches are what you want: I got the #2 La Charriada and it blew me away. Steak asada and spicy pork, 2 kinds of cheese, avocado, L&T, salsa, and(I presume) a heavy dash of magic. I like food a lot but am not easily impressed, and biting into this torta just threw me off guard. It was so good(and big and cheap, if you’re concerned) I thought it must be a joke. Strawberry-banana licuado actually kept me from gettin Margie’s afterward too. I’m currently petitioning my office to move to Bucktown so I can eat here every day. If they don’t, I’ll apply for a job there and just get paid in tortas. A deliciously built gut will commence, but will be well worth it. Hasta luego, Ojo…

Tortas are gigantic for the price, and amazing. Got the #1(breaded steak and pork) and #4(chicken, which comes with ham) and a quesadilla. The torta meal is supposed to come with fries(or chips) and a drink, but they don’t have fountain pop yet, just horchata and some juices, so i asked for a side of chips and guacamole instead of the fries/drink. I didn’t get charged extra, but when I got home it was two(huge) sides of guacamole and … no chips. oh well. The tortas are really tasty, great bread(which really can make or break a torta), they add pickled veggies … a big YUM and will be back soon,

Nothing like getting a new, quick service restaurant within your ‘hood. This place has just opened in the old Think space and is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Think was good but it wasn’t the kind of place you would go to on a weekly basis. El Ojo is the latest taqueria to hit this town. They serve the usual fare, tacos, burritos, tortas, and quesadillas. Their pitch is the freshness of the ingredients. The tacos have two options. The basic includes onions, cilantro and hot sauce. The Special includes those items plus which sour cream, cheddar cheese, and guacamole. I had 3 tacos, basic style. A chicken, steak and chorizo so nothing fancy. But they were very tasty. And even better, the meat wasn’t so greasy that the tortillas fell apart. I know some of you out there are the late night crowd and like the grease and others of you are saying, hey, it’s a taqueria, the grease is part of the deal I make when I go to one of these places. But you don’t have to have excessive amounts of grease to make a tasty taco and El Ojo has it down. At least on the first visit. My wife had a spicy pork and steak torta and thought it was fabulous. I think the bread is handmade at the restaurant. And the size of it certainly doesn’t leave you asking for more. The green salsa was only ok but the red, hotter salsa, was tasty but could use a little more fire in my mind but I like it spicy. A note to the owners. El Ojo appeared to open around the end of May. When eating there and going by it, the place has been pretty empty. Unsurprisingly, there’s no website and no entry on Unilocal.C’mon people, get with the times, people find out about your place online these days. You’ve got a good product but you have to make it known!
