So, I don’t live here and have a normal barber at home in California. My assignment in Chicago was extended and I needed a haircut. I regret it. I walked in and the male barber was on his phone. I told him I’d wait, but he insisted. As he asked me what I wanted, I noticed he was still on the phone. I was nervous. I should’ve stopped there, but he went straight to doing it and the very first move was already wrong. I started sweating and got mad because he was on the phone and already shaved my sides to short and too high. I was livid. He kept talking on the phone and by the time he was done, it looked horrible and wasn’t what I wanted. The shop smelled like marijuana and they really don’t keep the place clean ATALL. The next day, I went to a barber down the street who was able to fix it to the best of his ability. The barber was shocked to see how badly this man has done. Never going there ever again.

I took my son to this place recently for the first time. That was a mistake. We explained what we wanted but apparently not well enough. When I saw the cut, I immediately felt like asking the hair dresser to fix it but decided not to to not make my son feel bad. Sure enough my son was so upset about the cut he didn’t even want to say anything –until we walked out of there. The guy who cut his hair was obviously careless about the look. He knows how to use the scissors but has not concept of style. No interest whatsoever in making it look nice. The cut was horrible looking and even unfinished. My kids have gotten better cuts at $ 5-cut places. Not going back ever. There were other customers in the shop who seem to be regular. Maybe at least one of the other hairdressers do a better job.

I had planned on stopping by Nick and Betty’s for my usual trim but I noticed a sign in the window of Cut and View that advertised $ 6 for first time visitors. Stopped in, got a much better haircut than I usually get at N&B’s. Trimmed my beard, eyebrowns and even trimmed the hair in my nose and ears. All for $ 6.00. Barber told me that the usual price for a haircut was $ 10. A great value. Stop in; get your $ 6 first timer haircut. You’ll be back.

I actually read the reviews here before coming, and decided to take a chance. I mean, what could go wrong with a haircut and a coupon for it being discounted to $ 7.99? I live really close and wanted to try a different barber in the neighborhood. Everything went wrong. Asked for a #3.5 on the sides, the barber pressed the clippers repeatedly into the sides of my head with such force that I had to tell him to ease up. The sides came out uneven and closer to a #1. I told him one side looks bald, the other looks normal. He responded that«One side will never be even because you always sleep on it.» …Ok. Didn’t bother wasting my breath in telling him in 27 years’-worth of haircuts every few weeks, I’ve never heard something so ridiculous. Other customers came in and he stopped cutting my hair to chat with them in a foreign language for a long amount of time. Also took a cell phone call, too. Then my coupon that was recently mailed to me «was a few years old» and the price was only for kid’s haircuts. Nowhere did it say it only applied to child haircuts. He refused honor it. If you live in the neighborhood, throw out the mailers this shop sends; it’s bait-and-switch.

I have been going to Cut & View for almost a year. Having a very hard type of hair to cut, I found myself driving for almost an hour just to get a great haircut at this place after discovering it while visiting my parents. For the past year, I have been getting my haircut and have always been satisfied. Just this past weekend, I visited the place to get my fade. The owner basically rushed through my haircut leaving it very uneven. It looked as if I had just woken up, took a pair of scissor, and cut it myself without a mirror. My damn sideburns were uneven as well, AND they weren’t even straight. Furious, I basically had to drive to a different hairstylist afterwards to get everything fixed. I personally would not go back again and would not recommend this place any longer.

CV is a neighborhood barber shop with barbers that don’t really like chewing the fat. It is like a place that people come for a quick chop but almost everyone just minds their own business. If you are thinking«Barbershop» it is not. The only laughs you will get are if they are playing something funny on their flat screen tv. Overall this place is hit and miss. Hey that should be the new name. «Hit or Miss at the Cut and View.» Most people come in and wait for the barber with the«view» chair. He is slightly better in my opinion and the regulars seem willing to wait in queue for an hour or so to get his handiwork. I dont particularly care since I have a simple fade and cut. So I go to whomever is first available. There is usually a short wait(10 mins) but I am in the chair in no time and out the door quickly. The price point used to be $ 5 just a few years ago, when I first moved in the neighborhood and has adjusted itself upward $ 2 per year. $ 9 is still a cheap cut and the location is close so no complaints on that front. The only thing that drop the star rating for me is the inconsistencies in the quality of work. Seems like if there are a lot of customers backed up they take less care in the customer in the chair and are already counting the cash from the other people in waiting. Also I sometimes wish they were more friendly. I mean during my supercuts days people would always be chatty and it was a better atmosphere to both wait and sit while being cut.

For the last 10+ years, I cut my own hair and think I do a pretty good job for doing myself. Mainly for the reason that I don’t think about it until 3AM or I get a little tired of having to redo the uneven cuts of others. Also, why should I pay someone $ 30 for them to use electric clippers on me when I can I can do that myself… for free? Enough about me, this is about Cut & View… I had never heard of this place and decided to just to stop in because I wasn’t in the mood to cut my own hair. It was rather empty and figured I could get in with a little or no wait… which there was no wait. I walk in and Joe, I think was his name, sat me in a booth with a view of Irving Park Road for a cut… hence, Cut & View. Pretty clever name, eh? Joe asked me how I wanted it cut. I told him I wanted to look like a Jonas Brother. OK, I really didn’t tell him that. Actually, I just told him to cut it to what he thought would look best. He pulled out the electric clippers. «Damn! I can do that myself for free!,» I say. He said he was only using them to shorten the excess weight off the back only. He doesn’t say much, but Joe was definately quick with the hands and wastes no time going to town on my hair. Cutting away with scissors and then following up with texture scissors, continued up with a straight raiser to trim the edges so quickly, I was rather concerned that he may be screwing it up. However, when he was finished I was surprised how even it was all the way around. No, I didn’t look like a Jonas Brother in the end, but I was extremely impressed with the quality of effort he put into it without me telling him one thing on how I wanted it. How much for this non electric clipper using cut job? $ 9.00. What!!! That’s it? ONLY $ 9.00? Being the cheap… um, frugal, guy that I am, I gave him a large tip because I didn’t think $ 9.00 was enough. Seriously, he did a great job and will stop cutting my own to go to him. Mr. Scissorhands, you earned a 5 Scissor Star rating. Next time, I’ll see if he can make me look like Pete Wentz? I think the reason for being empty was parking on the street was full. I parked in the residential section and walk a few blocks. But, that’s what I get for going there during rush hour traffic time.
