I’ve always seen this place driving by and decided to give it a try after seeing it on Chicago’s best. I got the Balboa sandwich and turkey chili. Sooooo good and it came with a drink. I spent around $ 8 and it was worth it! The workers were nice and everything was clean. I will be coming back!

So I have literally just ate the best sub of my life! No joke ! I mean I was licking my lips after, like my dogs does when he has had something tasty. Came here when someone recommended it, telling me that they have been there over 30 years. I love establishments with history. Boy am I glad I tried it. Amazing! The guys behind the counter couldn’t have been any nicer. Offering me samples of soup and chili. So I ordered a turkey, lettuce and bacon sub and turkey chili to go. And wow — was that sub perfect. They say it’s all in the bread and that bread was perfection. Everything was. Definitely a must try. They definitely have a repeat customer in me. Can’t wait to try different subs!

If you have never had one of their sandwiches and you’re looking to these Unilocal reviews to see if it is worth going, I’m tell you to go right now. This is your sign. Go. It’s worth the gas or the footsteps it takes you to get there. Plus, it’s super affordable in comparison to other sandwich shops! I know it says I only have six check-ins at this place but that’s only because I rarely check in on Unilocal since I go there so often. I’m a regular and loyal customer to the point where most of the workers know me and my order(but I should add that they got to know me the second or third time I came to eat at the place). This place is a bit like a whole in the wall; their interior isn’t the most impressive, in fact, I’d say in needs a make over, but they have a number of places to sit. The tables, trays, and floors are also always clean. As for their food… Oh my god, so good! They have a variety of selections to order from and as a vegetarian, I always order the Super Cheese(extra Captain Nemo’s Secret Sauce, sans tomato and onion) and their Split Pea soup. From what I’ve heard, all their food is made by them from the yummy soup to their«Enhanced Brownies». In case you’re wondering, those Enhanced Brownies taste so rich you wouldn’t believe it’s from a place like Captain Nemo’s. Their bread tastes incredible with their sandwiches and their creations are delectable. I have introduced many friends to their food and am proud to say, they have all loved it– I’m not one to exaggerate, they ask to go their on a regular basis and have gone back repeatedly without me. I know it sounds like I was paid to write this review(I wasn’t, they don’t even know I’m writing this), I just love this place so much that I would love it if other people reading this gave it a try!

What happened to this place? It used to be the best in town. I just paid 26.00 for 2 sandwiches with half the meat than they used to put on it. If I wanted a bad sandwich I would go to subway. They also changed to a cheap garbage bread as well. I will never come back to this place again and I was a customer for over 20 years. They charge an extra $ 2.00 per sandwich made with beef as a posted surcharge, what idiot Does that if they want business?

Excellent sandwiches, fresh soups, and really neat old maps and pictures on the walls. Staff is friendly too and always offering a free sample of the soup. My only complaint is that they are closed on Sunday. There is free parking around the corner on Jarvis for 1 hour by the market.

So, satisfying! My husband and I have been coming here for years but we’ve missed a few months due to scheduling. Well, we got there today and I ordered the Seafarer. it was perfect, fresh bread, fresh veggies, the tuna, egg, captain sauce, I missed you. A sub sandwich comfort food celebration, oh happy day!

It has been awhile but I love the subs! Nothing too fancy, but it’s a great place! I would say it’s got a classic Chicago vibe and I love that.

Capt Nemo’s has a very delicious sub that is unique. The texture of the bread is crunchy Italian bread but not to hard the meats and cheeses are of the highest quality the soups are excellent.

So it appears that this Capt’n Nemo’s location has been around for a long time, not as long as me but pretty close… I love Sub Sandwiches, however, since visiting another Sub place I have been on a quest for a truly great Sub place that will not stuff my Sub Sandwich with a head of lettuce! Well. today I hit pay dirt, I found this gem of a place, and from start to finish it was just about perfect in every way. So, yes, this Capt’n Nemo’s location looks pretty dated, and the interior is not the most modern or chic but if you are coming looking for a great Sub and great chili you most definitely have found your spot! The turkey club was delicious, ample amounts of meat and toppings, and Bacon to boot… This place has 5 Menuboards filled with various sandwich choices/combinations so take your pick, this place has you covered! I also ordered a bowl of chili which was offered to me in Beef or Turkey Varieties, I myself chose the beef and it was a great choice truly. This Chili was thick and had the perfect amount of meat and spice, loved it! Now, honestly, the only issue I had was that Capt’n Nemo’s does seem to be a bit more pricey than some other Sub places, but, I have become a believer in you get what you pay for and this place was far Superior to the other Sub places I have been to. So, if you haven’t tried Capt’n Nemo’s you are missing out on a great place, So get yourselves over there like Pronto! It’s a win-win, they will serve you up some great tasting food and you will patronize their business… Can’t get much better than that…

This place is okay if there’s not another sandwich shop nearby. Capt’n Nemo’s is a little more pricey than most restaurants of this type. The sandwich sizes aren’t as big as what is found at other places, but there is a little more variety of meats being offered. The soup is better than what is found at most places.

Best subs in the city. 1. Maybe a dollar more than subway or potbellys. 2. As another reviewer noted, they have pineapples, radishes, mustard, hard-boiled eggs, secret sauce, turkey, ham, bologna, volpi genoa salami, liverwurst, mortadella, swiss, american, and provolone. Quality stuff! 3. Secret sauce is AMAZING. 4. Another reviewer said subs are small? Maybe he went there on an off day. But so far I cant remember going there on an off day. These subs are as big or bigger than subways or potbellys. 5. The soups are amazing and homemade! 6. Now available toasted.

Definitely the best subs in the city. Certainly the most interesting. If you’re looking for a boring turkey sub go to Subway or Potbelly. I mean, they have turkey but like all their subs they put a riff on it. Come on… they have pineapple sauce, radishes, mustard sauce, hard-boiled eggs… secret sauce! I know, it sounds weird. But trust me, they taste awesome. And the bread is perfect, really crusty on the outside and pull-out-a-front-tooth-chewy on the inside. So yeah, you can get a basic sub and it’ll be great. But the world is full of basic subs. Where else can you go and get one with liverwurst, muenster, salami, eggs, sauerkraut dressing and secret sauce? Or my favorite, the South Sea, with ham, salami, american cheese, eggs, secret sauce and pineapple sauce. Say what?!? Yes, the place is worn around the edges but so what. Portions are decent, prices are fair, soup is excellent. If the subs seem a bit smaller than elsewhere(again, Subway or Potbelly) that may be. The bread may(possibly) be a teeny bit shorter but the meats and cheeses are really piled on. Like, hard-to-get-it-all-into-my-mouth, piled on. That’s definitely not the case at most sub shops.

1. Overpriced 2. so-so quality meat 3. Secret sauce was terrible IMO 4. Subs are extremely small I have no idea how anybody could say this is the best sub they ever had with a straight face. Capt’n Nemo’s is extremely mediocre. If you want a good sub try Bari’s or Vinnies.

First visit. Better than expected. Figured it would be kind of dumpy and the food not very good. Instead, it was great soup and I loved my sandwich. Can’t wait to go back.

There are no sandwiches quite like a Nemo’s sandwich — that’s why they’ve been around forever. Once you have a Nemo’s, no other sandwich measures up. The meats, the cheeses, the captn’s secret sauce. Perfect. Great prices. This place is kind of easy to miss — it’s a very nondescript building, small sign — make the trip! It’s worth it!

Great, friendly staff and the BEST subs in the city. My dads been coming here since it opened on the early 70s and says it hasn’t changed a bit. Spread the word about the Captn and support this Rogers Park staple.

The original Nemo’s! Here is my secret: while living in the RP, I once dated a boy. His idea of romance was a sub shop, and said sub shop was none other than THE original Capt’n Nemo’s. The relationship didn’t work out(shocking, and our only other date was Deluxe Diner), but I fell hopelessly in love with the Capt’n…more often patronizing the Lakeview location, but never forgetting my true homemade soup and crunchy bread beginnings on the far north side. The ambience is a little lacking, I seem to recall an aquatic theme… but its the same damn fine subs, soups(free samples!) and quality service. DONOT park in the lot to the south, you’ll be towed and screamed at my the man that owns the laundromat. This is where it all started. Sighhhh… make the trek. Experience where all the magic began :)
