Every time I go I enjoy the food and service — always friendly staff. I have friends who live in a penthouse in the Gold Coast on State Street so they obviously can afford any restaurant — but whenever we get together for dinner they answer my question as to where — not downtown — we want to come up to Edgewater to Broadway Cellars! They love the food and neighborly atmosphere -«so refreshing»

I haven’t been here in a long time but Broadway Cellar did not disappoint. I stopped in last night and it happened to be $ 5 burger night. Bonus! The place was hopping(always a good sign) and they also had $ 522 oz. Fat Tire amber ale. The staff was friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed but would make a nice date night place. The menu is not overly fussy. The burger was delicious! It comes with fries but you can choose other sides. Choice of cheeses and grilled onions at no extra charge. I won’t wait so long again.

Most recent visit a service debacle. First courses arrived in a flash, so I knew there would be an uncomfortable wait for the main. What ensued was worse than I anticipated. Thirty minutes or so after first course dishes were removed — and totally unattended — we asked to have our mains packed to-go because our appetites had subsided. Ultimately, the dinners weren’t ready and we left having consumed my soup and my companion’s salad for which we were charged. I would like to like this place, but the service is too unreliable. We got ice-cream on the way home and I doubt we’ll go back.

It was good. We were there on a Thursday night and it was kind of slow. I had the mushroom ravioli special, which was really good — fresh-cut cheese on top. pine nuts, garlic, spinach and spices. My friends had burgers and they were very good, but one had a Cesar side salad and it had a little too much dressing. =(Wine and service were both good!

Dined on a Sunday afternoon with my boyfriend it was his first time eating here. I know it gets packed on a Sunday so I called ahead made a reservation, when we arrived she didn’t even have our reservation noted down she had it on a tiny piece of paper. I didn’t mind it she seated us quickly we date down and waited about 5 – 10 mins before the same lady who sat us down took are drink order. Then waited another 10 mins, our waitress didn’t introduce herself just asked for her order and walked away. Once are food arrived she only came around are table once my boyfriend had to ask for a refill on his water and towards the way of our meal she came around to refill my mimosa. The food was great I was just disappointed with the service we received.

Dropped in on a friday evening, $ 5 martini’s, hard to resist. Had the Sesame crusted seared tuna. Was not only very eye appealing, but very tasty and it was not skimpy. A great value. Nice crowd. Will be back to sample some more.

So I have to admit, it’s been a few years since we’ve been here. And I had fond memories of this place, so I took a few friends here for dinner. Service started slow. Even coming in the door, we stood around for awhile in a room of ½ empty tables before we were seated. Opentable wasn’t even needed(I made the reservation 30 minutes or so before arriving). After we were seated, it did take some time for our waiter to take our order. He did guide our friend to a delicious special wine they had. Oddly enough, she swears that upon the second glass, they gave her something else less desirable. Maybe they thought after the alcohol then and before we arrived, they wouldn’t notice? Not sure. I liked my drink, which was Jose’s Martini. Something apple and pear infused I think. It was delicious and not too sweet as some of these special martini’s tend to be. Kudo’s to Jose. Others took advantage of the $ 5 martini special and they were delicious as well. We ordered the Tempura Broccoli as an appetizer on the server’s recommendation. Personally, I found it much too thick on the tempura. The wasabi dipping sauce is definitely an acquired taste and I really wish they offered a different option. Like something more in the soy dept. Anyhow, after a few pieces, I just was pealing off the tempura and eating the broccoli by itself. For dinner, it seems I was the only one that really was satisfied with the selection — which was on the special menu called Paul’s Pasta(or was it Pete’s, whatever it was, I did enjoy the fresh tasting pasta that had a light Alfredo coating — lots of other ingredients like onion and zucchini in it, but honestly can’t remember all of them except it was pretty darn good.). A couple of our dining companions had appetizers for dinner — one being the muscles from the specials menu and he complained they were a bit gritty. The other ordered the«Cape Henry Crab Cakes»(which I sampled) and both of us thought they were way too heavy on the bread and neither could find or taste the crab. Hey, if you are that low on crab, just take it off the menu. And the fourth had the flatbread, which she was disappointed in mostly because she could not customize the ingredients. Apparently they are made ahead of time so, special orders are not possible. I may have given this 3 stars if I just had the main course alone and if the service was a little more expedient(it wasn’t that busy so not sure what was going on there.) I think I should have just rested on my fond previous memories of this place.

BRUNCHREVIEW: Their food is delicious and has a good variety. However, the service for brunch is terrible. I’ve witnessed fights between servers, servers disappearing for 30 minutes, servers who never refill coffee, and servers being rude or making me feel uncomfortable with their commentary. I really hope Broadway Cellars can step up their game because this is a great location and has awesome food but I am always left with a mediocre experience.

This review is for brunch only. One of my go-to brunch places. I will admit that it’s partly because I live around the corner that I go here so much, but it’s a solid choice to spend the early Saturday or Sunday afternoon(especially if you can get a spot on the patio during the summer). If you are looking for a nice boozy brunch on the far north side, this is your place. It’s $ 10AYCD mimosas or bloodies. When it comes to the food, I usually go with the Ned Beatty. I love the flavor and it sops up the booze you drank last night and the booze you are drinking that day.

The brunch here can’t be beat. First of all, you can make a reservation which seems to be rare for a brunch place on the north side. Secondly, bottomless mimosas for $ 10 or bloody mary’s and mimosas for $ 15 — you can get in some fun trouble. Finally, the food is outstanding. Seriously — my friends and I have never been disappointed no matter if we are going with an old standard or trying a new dish. Broadway Cellars — for the win!

Great food — pork shank with a superb mole sauce, pork chop with mustard sauce, mushroom ravioli, sweet potatoes used to great advantage mashed or fried. We all loved the tempura fried brussel sprouts with wasabi sauce. Very generous portions. I recommend skipping the under-dressed, tasteless Caesar salad. Dropped to 3 stars because of lackadaisical service; not sure if they were understaffed on a busy Friday night or just a distracted waiter. We wanted to order additional appetizers, but by the time the waiter returned, we skipped it. Likewise with dessert. These were not evening-spoilers, but they are the difference between a really good restaurant and one that is just OK.

Awesome brunch! Make a reservation and/or Coke early because it fills up and there’s a line out the door. Totally worth the wait though! Portions are enormous – no danger of leaving hungry here. Fluffiest pancakes I’ve ever had, but the«side order» is three plate-size cakes. Share them but don’t miss out on them!

My husband and I had our 3rd visit to Broadway Cellars today(first time during brunch), and we’ve had such an amazing experience from the start that it would be selfish not to share it with the rest of the world. We both had steak and eggs, bottomless Mimosas, I had the flour-less chocolate mousse cake for dessert and my husband had their cheesecake. I think for the first time ever this was my first visit to a restaurant where everything went perfectly and I have zero complaints or suggestions for improvement. Our server Tim made sure our glasses were never empty and that we were pleased with our food, always very friendly and polite. A very nice guy that we were lucky to have as our server and to have a fun chat and share a bit about us and the neighborhood. We definitely recommend Broadway Cellars and next time we decide to stop by we’ll be calling in advance to make sure we get Tim as our waiter again!

Broadway Cellars is great for a date night! They have live music and good specials. I enjoy their flatbreads and the pork chop. The service was a little slow.

I used to live around the corner from this place and cannot say enough good about it. Food is inventive and tasty and bottomless mimosas can’t be beat. Also the bartender who works on the weekends, she’s the sweetest! Only down side can be the wait. I go back because it’s worth it but definitely make a res. If it’s the weekend

A neighborhood restaurant that has risen in my opinion over time, but still occasionally disappoints. The chef there has taken a serious interest in recreating many classic dishes — a few with interesting variation — and I have come to have a certain security that those dishes will be delicious. Service varies a lot and there has never been an emphasis on server training, but overall things usually go pretty well. Last week there was an issue with our Open Table reservation that has left a sour taste in my mouth, however. I made a rez and checked in when I arrived, but when I got home there was an email from Open Table saying that the rez had been cancelled about an hour after we had checked in. I immediately called the restaurant and was told that they would fix the problem. Four days later, after the points never showed up, I was told by the owner, Barbara, that it would not be able to be fixed. A petty issue, but an illustration of the variation in the service experience. I still recommend the place, but am disappointed by this latest indifference to customer experience. We had been eating there about once a week over the summer, but without so much as an offer to buy me a drink on the next visit, not sure when we’ll go back anytime soon.

Another great brunch place! Bottomless mimosas are a must if you go here! They’re usually slammed so I highly recommend getting here early especially if it’s a larger group!

Stopped by here on a beautiful Sunday morning and was warmly greeted by the staff there! They were all very attentive and made sure we were comfortable and familiar with the menu. My friends and I ordered the Ned Beatty, The Grump, and the Salmon Benny. According to my friend, the Ned Beatty is perfect for someone who loves BBQ. The Ned Beatty was just what it is and the flavored are nothing out of what you’d already expect. The best part according to me friend were the potatoes. For The Grump, the crab to filler ratio in the crab crabs were lacking. There were also a lot of spices to mask the already very invisible crab flavor. As for the Salmon Benny, which was my fave and I had no complaints, the cucumber salad complimented the salmon very well. The dish was overall very refreshing and just the perfect portion for brunch! There was a good amount of salmon for the price. The potatoes pancakes were also a nice change from the usual English muffins of biscuits at the base of every Benedict. I would order this dish again!

2 visiting friends, a local chum and I had brunch here today. We all loved what we ordered(I had the«breakfast pasta carbonara» — which was exquisite) … and our waiter, Tim, was very pleasant. My friends complained that the bottomless alcoholic beverages they had were very weak… but other than that, the place gets raves from us(especially in regards to food quality and vibe).

I came here with a friend on a Saturday for brunch. The ambiance of this place is great. I had the veggie sandwich on wheat bread with fries on the side. That, was rather refreshing on a warm summer morning. On the patio. Very nice dining area. Bottomless mimosas! Great! If there was really such a thing! LOL so we got here at 11:15ish and ordered our meal and mimosas. We stayed for about 2 and half hours and had a few refills of mimosas. We weren’t ready to leave but yet the waitress(which by the way was super friendly) gave us our check, weird. We weren’t half way done with our meal but she said«I’ll leave it here so I don’t forget it» ok. Didn’t think think much of it. Then she returned again and said«is this ready, no rush» by this time she annoyed me a little because she slowed down with our mimosas refills and asked for the check even though we didn’t ask for it. Feeling rushed. Yes! Kinda rude too. We had a good time. My friend didn’t notice the waitress. I did. I live to far to come here again. I didn’t appreciate being practically kicked out. Too many mimosas refills! Maybe it should be bottomless mimosas for 2 and half hours! Haha! Sorry. I’m big on customer service. You serve people for a living. Do it right. Please and thank you…

Ok. I’m a white 20-something woman living in Chicago. It’s a requirement for me to love brunch. I’ve brunched many places, but not everywhere. But I have to say(and have said many times) Broadway Cellars has the best brunch in Chicago. Others may disagree, but man oh man. Let’s begin with the booze factor. $ 10 bottomless mimosas or bloody Mary’s. You’re just not going to beat that. They’re also very generous with filling up your glass. The food is also fabulous! Their crab cake Benedicts are delicious. I also just recently ordered their dish«it’s not easy being green.» It’s a Benedict but it’s poached eggs on a spinach artichoke tart. Just fabulous! The broadway breakfast is good, as is the breakfast carbonara. I know pasta is not a breakfast food, but it you open your mind it, it’s fab! I have been here for dinner on a couple occasions. The dinner options are fine. Truly, what they do well is brunch! If you haven’t been, you need to go!

I owe Broadway Cellars an apology because it took me nearly 8 years of living in this city, 3 of which I lived two blocks away, to finally try it out. My mistake. First of all, they don’t play with the bottomless mimosas. My glass never completely saw the bottom before it got filled again. And hey, there’s reasonably priced food too! I had The Grump, which was really good. However, my friend next to me order some pancakes… I think it was a special, I don’t know if they’re a regular part of the menu, but I’m pretty sure that if heaven offers brunch, they would serve those pancakes. I promise, I will not wait another 8 years before my return!

What a great brunch! My husband and I met up with my friend and her husband(and their twin babies) just after open on Sunday morning. We had a reservation, which I would definitely recommend as the place filled up fast! The staff was super friendly and they were very accommodating in giving us a larger table and 2 highchairs. The portions are incredibly large. You can definitely eat half and save the rest for a 2nd meal. Or you can be like all of us and stuff your face with everything in front of you! Not a single complaint about any of our orders, which included the Ned Beatty bbq benedict, chicken sandwich, quiche du jour, and club sandwich. We did not partake in the bottomless mimosa option, but saw that many others did. Maybe next time! Would recommend for a casual brunch with friends, family, or a fun girls brunch.

Broadway Cellars is an unassuming place right in the heart of Edgewater. The menu is very accessible American style fare. I’ve only been to brunch here which features bottomless mimosas and a good selection of menu items. There is an outdoor patio on the side street which is nice and peaceful. If you’re looking to be in the thick of it, with a lot of action — this isn’t your place; however, if you want to hangout, relax and have a leisurely meal then this is a great spot. Recommended.
