It’s good that this place is closed. The place was outdated and dingy. One of their things was to automatically bring a basket of rolls/bread to each table if one ordered lunch/dinner. Sounds nice until you find out that they actually would reuse the same basket of rolls from another table. My wife and I, personally, witnessed the waitress remove the basket of rolls from a table after the people left, bring it back to where the waitresses go(behind the counter), set it down for a few minutes, then that same waitress took the same exact basket(with the same rolls) to a new table. NASTY. Sure, maybe the previous customer didn’t eat it, but it doesn’t mean they didn’t touch it, lick it, sneeze on it, etc. I am guessing the owner made them do that to save money. Most bread goes uneaten or there is some left so he didn’t want to throw it out. That was the last time I ever set foot in there. I bet the Health Department is glad that this place is closed. Good riddance!

This place is /was awesome. I’m really sorry to see it close. I have been coming here with my Father since I was a little girl. They were always friendly, great staff, great prices, great food and are not skimpy with the food. They are clean, open 24 hours. They even had free refills for coffee. I’m sorry to see them go and they will be missed.

What a shame. I am sad to hear they closed down! Maybe the owner’s son’s coke addiction had something to do with it. or he got busted for selling. Sorry to say it but that was one of the shady aspects of the place. Otherwise they were awesome, had a really funny old-school waitstaff.

Wow! Blink an eye these days and your favorite breakfast spot just up and disappears! Hubby and I went out to the Angel today in hopes of grabbing a bit of breakfast. I had planned to write a review afterwards, even though I have been there so many times I could write one without any thought. And, instead, I find myself writing an obituary. Good bye, Angel, you will be missed! No more ending a night of bar hopping with a trip to the Angel at 4 am for some yummy hash browns. No more early Sunday breakfasts. No more stopping by the Angel on our way home from O’Hare after a long hunger-inducing flight! Where did my Angel go! Why!!! Why, did this happen to you? Why!!! The Angel was not a fancy place, nor was it the spot for an avantgarde breakfast. It was just a place where they still made the hash browns from those shredded potatoes. All crispy on the outside, hot and potatoe-y on the inside. The eggs were always cooked exactly as you ordered them. Yeah, most of their menu sucked, but that’s the problem with a menu that is pages and pages and pages of crap. But the Angel did breakfast right and they did it at all hours of the day. We’re going to miss it.

I have had good experiences and some less than pleasant here, but the main thing is they are open 24 hours every day. The restaurant has been closed the last few weeks(remodeling?) The sign on the door mentions a reopening in November. I have heard that the place will be reopening under a different name and theme.

Blue Angel is a diamond in the rough. But I wouldn’t exactly say«don’t judge a book by it’s cover» since they are def stuck in the 80’s(which is actually what I love about this place). The menu is massive, and whether I have a hankering for a 4th meal, breakfast, or lunch they deliver! I don’t think you could find me sharing cocktails with my boo over a dinner there however… it’s just not my style. I’m not as daring when it comes to dining out for supper. On top of the food-the service is great! You sorta feel as if you’re being waited on at grandmas house, the only difference is no one’s blowing cigarette smoke when you order… you get the point. For me dining out is an experience and I love to be treated with simple pleasures… service with a smile. Check it out! Enjoy the free bread and people watching:)

This is one of my favorite diners in the city. Great food, comfortable diner atmosphere and friendly staff. Whenever I go to Blue Angel, I pretty much order the same thing. I like to get the Chicken Cesar Wrap, which has fresh chicken, romaine lettuce and dressing wrapped in a green tortilla. It’s so good! I usually get it with the Cream of Chicken Soup and fries. Their fries are OK; they’re not great, but they’re typical diner fries. I’ve been there in the afternoon and late at night before, and it hasn’t been too crowded. I went once around 11 a.m. on a Sunday with my P’s and it was super-packed, probably with church-goers. They sat us at a booth that was a little too small for four people. It was really an over-sized, two-seater booth, so it was a little cramped, but it was crowded so there weren’t very many other places to sit. I guess they can’t help it if they’re awesome. Blue Angel is open 24 hours, which is nice if you want to grab a bite to eat after a night of drinking. Apparently, Blue Angel used to be quite the hangout at night back when smoking was allowed in restaurants. Obviously, you can’t do that anymore, but Blue Angel still gets some of those people who just like to sit, drink a cup of coffee and chat. Overall, I really like Blue Angel. Their Chicken Cesar Wrap is the best!

Hood fav. Despite what you have to say about it. I like coming in here after a long night of… whatever… and having some made to order food. You name it, I’ve had it! I enjoy getting greeted by the most hospitable man in the world, George. He give me a hug and makes sure I get good service. He really brings a personalized feel to this joint. The waitresses are very attentive and on top of my order. Usually 24-hour places are worn down and dilapidated. Not Blue Angel, its immaculate appearance surprises me. They have 2 large dining areas and lots of stuffed booths and tables. I usually order the breakfasts. Eggs are fluffy, the crepes are to die for, and cooked to order. The steaks are cooked like they are a steakhouse. These cooks really can cook very well. The run multiple specials every week and offer a wide array of selections. They also have desserts on the menu and on display. Usually I am pretty stuffed when it come to that point so I can’t really comment on how the desserts taste. So if you are in the area after a night of drinking or up early for some reason… Give Blue angel a try. Tell George I say hello.

Not bad. Not mind blowing or anything, but what do you expect for a 24 hour diner? Good menu, friendly staff, prices are decent.

I spent quite a few years of my life in this area, in fact, I can almost say that I grew up around here and I am tempted to give Blue Angel 5 stars just because of the fantastic memories I have about this place. We always make it a point to eat a meal here whenever we visit Chicago and it is consistently good, very generous and great service. It is a neighborhood restaurant… We favor breakfast and lunch but really, anytime you come by is just as good. Check it out !! It is worth it !

If you want to stop somewhere near O’Hare airport during the late night hours this is the place to go. Breakfast at any time of the day is a favorite of mine! I highly recommend the french toast. Nothing fancy, service was very friendly, food was good, portions generous. Menu has a little bit of everything.

This ain’t no Waffle House I’ve been going to the Blue Angel for years — high school, colllege, and reality. I wouldn’t necessarily go here for dinner, but LATENIGHT breakfast here is a mandatory after a long night on the town. It usually takes some prodding to get my girlfriend to eat late night food, but she is very fond of the ham & cheese omelette. My personal favorites are their skillets. The Steak skillet has quality meat, wonderful hash browns, and the eggs over easy just melt in your mouth. Another recommendation is gyros in your omelette or skillet(pair it with swiss). This Greek Diner always fills you up, keeps your coffee and waters full, and theres always some interesting characters in there at 3 in the morning. Breakfast and Lunch at normal times are advisable as well. The Blue Angel is a neighborhood 24 hour institution.

Here’s the deal. Write down every users name who gave this place over 3 stars and ignore any review they write. No freaking way is this place worthy of the word«good». It is OK. They do not make great food, the place is not that clean, and the service sucks because they can’t retain a waitstaff. Seriously folks, what the hell is wrong with you giving a place like this a «GREAT» review? Do you not go anywhere else? Or are you that stupid drunk when you go in there that your own vomit tastes good? It’s OK, nothing more. Update… wait for it… wait for it… CLOSEDDUETOROACHES!!! Sept 1, 2010 Dirty owners.

Stopped into Blue Angel last night for a bite to eat and some coffee with a girlfriend. It was clean, well lit and the food wasn’t bad. Well, it wasn’t great — but then again I only had the disco fries. The management was super friendly and greeted us with a sweet smile, the coffee guy as I’ll refer to him was really friendly and the waitress recognized my friend. All in all I’ll have to try more of the menu before I can really rate the place accurately but the staff was super friendly and the environment was fine to chill in.

The Blue Angel is family dining at it’s finest! The menu is huge, and it includes anything that you or your grandparents would like to munch on. In fact, there are so many offerings that it’s really hard to choose. Hot Roast Beef Sandwich, or Prime Rib, or Gyros? Hmm… The décor is nostalgic, and the booths look like slices of bread. There are some Greek columns and art-deco sconces. But true to the name, the place is themed after the Blue Angels air stunt team. Kind of an interesting idea. I did have the Hot Roast Beef, and it was delicious, straight from Grandma’s kitchen. The mushroom soup was wonderful as well. The Philly Sandwich comes on a Panini, which was weird, but I was told it was also very tasty. The service was very nice, the waitress and bus-man were always checking in even though they were busy. I will definitely return when I have a need for comfort food!

I can’t believe I never thought to write a review of this place. As a youngin, I grew up a few mere blocks from this place and it opened I believe in the same year I was born. My family always came here for breakfast and this is where I was introduce via my mom to my continued love affair with minced ham and scrambled eggs. The orignal hostess was a lovely older lady who always recognized our family and especially me and always had a special lollipop reserved. Even coming back through the years growing up she never forgot us despite our move out to the surburban wasteland of Wheeling. I believe that hostess has long since moved on but my happy memories of this place continue to live on. Our family still eagerly goes here when we get in the area to see my grandmother who lives in Portage Park and I’ve even taken that dear old lady to this place while I’ve lived with her. For a couple of years while going to college I even worked at the Blockbuster that shares this restaurants parking lot and you can only imagine the amount of quickie orders for soup or sandwiches I’ve placed in that time. Now, dont get me wrong, this place isn’t like gourmet or out of this world but the food, especially the soups and breakfast are on par if not better than your standard dinner food. However, there is always ample free parking, its open 24 hours, and the inside is nice and not at all dingy. If your in the area and its late or early and you want someplace to go I’d reccomend the neighborhood institution that Blue Angel has become. My friend and I went here just last night for deserts and some late night chit chat and it was great for that. Our server was very friendly, my soup was good and my friend’s banana split was an ice cream monstrosity that I would never be able to eat in my wildest dreams, a value for what she paid for sure. Warning: their deserts are HUGE. Good, but HUGE! My bf and I once got their cookie ice cream desert and it was advertised for two but its honestly better suited for three, i think we were both put into a food coma for two days after that.

It’s your typical Greek place, nothing special but decent service and decent food although a bit greasy. Breakfast can be hit or miss, but you can fit a big party in without a huge wait. And they don’t look at you too funny when the kids have a made a mess on the floor…

Imagine, if you will… a time many years ago. A couple walks into The Blue Angel and orders a meal. What was ordered for the meal is of no importance. This is not the embarrassing part. What occurred when the waitress asked if the couple wanted dessert is… and this is what happened… Waitress: You want dessert? She:No, I’m fine. He: Yeah, I want something, but to go. I’ll have the Giant go. Waitress: Hon, that’s a 30 scoop ice cream sundae. He: Yeah, I go, please. She: *groans* Waitress:I’ll have to see if we have anything to put that Giant in. I can’t promise anything. He: I don’t care how it looks, I just want it. Now, this is the part where all the kitchen staff, management and all other employees now come out to see who ordered this gigantic thing-to go. She buries her head and wishes She were somewhere else. Waitress: We found a 20 lb ricotta cheese tub, ya sure ya want it? That’s an awful lot of ice cream! He: Yeah, of course I want it! Waitress looks at She-with pity. She: Ya fat bastard! He: Come on, you’ll help me eat it, won’t ya? She: No… He:Well, I still want it! She: *sigh* She and He get to the car. He opens the 20 lb ricotta cheese tub o’ice cream before He even starts the car and proceeds to mange’.She is so grossed out that She never wants to eat in public with this man again. Well, two stars for actually finding something to put that monstrositiy in. And soon after, She makes good on that desire. The End
