I was in the mood for some good bar food. I remember reading about this place and headed over. Very easy to find, plenty of parking, super heavy door so guys be prepared. I don’t want you to feel like a wimp in front of your dates. You walk in and it’s a very nice and spacious bar. Flats screens all over the place so you can watch games anywhere you sit. I got a turkey sandwich which was amazing! I should go back soon…

Rumor has it, this is a front place for some organized mob. If you knew how good the food here is you would organize your ass and gather a mob of friends to come over here. The service was just darn lovely. Our bartender was bustling around getting food, fixing drinks, being attentive and all with a lovely lil’ smile. The food was awe. some. My tortilla soup was just a little spicy, plenty flavorful and came in a large bowl,(hint hint good portion sizes). I would say it is perfect for a cold winter’s day, however I think I might be able to go down to chow town even on a warm summer’s night. The calamari was good, not too chewy, flavorful sauces and just enough crust to make me happy. The roasted poblano and chicken fire sticks, weren’t too fire like, but certainly quite addicting. Think a crispy corn tortilla wrapping those peppers and chicken with some tasty guacamole and shredded lettuce and radish. Yum. Yum I gots to get me some. The menu is interesting with twists on tastes and large on mouth watering selections. The bar, is stacked with about 8 to 9 taps, a mountain of liquor and all in affordable prices. Dare I say I will be back? If I tell you, I’d have to go in the witness protection plan. I will give you a hint. It starts with a ‘h’ and ends in a ‘ell yeah’. But keep that on the down low please…

I landed at Baza at the tail end of a pretty rockin’ concert(see my FitzGerald’s review for more on that) so my spirits were high and I was ready for more cocktails. So Baza… There’s a kind of sketchy blue light outside followed by a sign on the door that say«Pull hard to open doors.» Christ. What kind of place is this? You walk downstairs to a vacant little foyer area. Well, vacant except for an ATM. I felt like I was walking into a strip club or something. It was weird. After you get past the doors and whatnot and climb down the stairs you enter the bar area. Shockingly, it’s nice! Lots of seating. A huge bar in the middle of the room. Juke Box. Again with the weird blue lights above the bar, but whatevs. My Effen Black Cherry and soda was large and in charge and quite delicious. Here’s what kind of gets me: It was pretty late on a Sat. night when I got to Baza. Shouldn’t there be people in the bar other than my friends and me? Someone said there’s a vaguely illegal feeling about this place and I couldn’t agree more. Hell, I’m not above hanging out at a bar where I can actually talk to my friends and gulp down some delicious beverages in a nice, clean environment, but if you’re looking to mix and mingle, Baza isn’t the place to get the job done.

This place opened a while ago and looked so strange from the outside it actually became a running joke in our house. Between the neon lights, strange sign and name it was an easy target. Always seemed too weird to try out. We decided to brave it on Super Bowl Sunday. As it turns out they have good food, a cool bar and nice staff. So egg on my face. We enjoyed drink and food specials here during the super bowl. The face that it is just around the corner, sells cheap drinks and has some yummy food means that I will be back here soon. Sucks that it took me a year to finally figure this out! With so many TVs I can’t wait to watch baseball here this year! Try the peanut butter cap’n crunch chicken fingers– you wont be sorry! (They have a liqueur licence now)

Very tasty brunch. Great service, lots of sports on dozens of TV screens. Comfortable surroundings, like a big American Legion hall, with a big four-sided bar in the middle of a banquet hall-type room. But the food is the reason to be here. I had the chilaquiles. Lots of scrambled eggs and cheese, light on the salsa, plenty of jalapenos. Large portion and tasty. My wife ordered banana bread French toast with berries. Wow, was that good. The banana bread was not too dense so it made a great French toast. That’ll be my choice next time. It is still a no liquor license restaurant — BYOB, which is something you have to plan for. That wouldn’t be my preference if going to watch a ball game on TV, but for brunch it’s not a problem. They serve brunch Saturday and Sunday until 2pm.

I’m a fan of BYOB in most circumstances, but since Baza is more of a sports bar, I have tended to avoid it since a selection of liquor is a main reason to go to a bar. Not being a morning drinker(thank God) I decided to give them a try for weekend breakfast. The whole«underground» feel is kind of interesting and reminds me of winter evenings spent in my parent’s basement rec room as a child. There is lots of wood and at least the dining room area appears to be spotlessly clean. The staff was friendly and attentive and they had the many TVs tuned to every conceivable station. The crowd was pretty sparse, but when I passed later the sidewalk patio area was full, so they appear to be drawing a decent weekend brunch crowd. The menu had a pretty wide variety of breakfast options, but no buffet, which is more than fine with me. I opted for«Hobo Hash», which was eggs and cheese over potatoes, mushrooms, peppers and broccoli. Everything had a very fresh taste leading me to consume too much and leave uncomfortably full. The center of the room was occupied by a very large square bar(ala Cheer’s) with included around a dozen empty beer tappers. I’d like to seem them get their liquor license and would tend to frequent more, but after trying it will go out of my way to pick up a bottle of something at Nevada on the way over.

Confusing, yes. A sports bar with no liquor? Blasphemy! Not to worry, our server told us that they would be with beer(and other adult beverages) soon. But not before he brought over a bucket with ice for our six-pack and cracked open our first two beers for us. This lovely service tempered our dinner,
