404 wine bar tops my places to take visiting friends. I live in the neighborhood and i have always been treated exceptionally. Knowledgable, friendly staff. Whether there are two or 12 of us it really is a great chill place to actually converse over their exceptional wine selection. Great place to grab a drink pre or post show from the theatre down the street. Food is always great too.

The surprise party I just hosted at 404 was amazing. Elaine, Johnna and their staff went above and beyond customer service standards to create a truly memorable experience for all of my friends and family! I can’t recommend them more! Being s customer service professional myself, I know how hard they worked to anticipate every need we may have had on our big party night. They are true experts in event planning and executing! Don’t think twice. Just call 404 Winebar for your next event!

After my negative experience with the server, the manager reached out to me to discuss the situation. I appreciate her attentive customer service and look forward to returning for an even better second experience.

Nice wine bar. Cozy dim atmosphere with a fireplace. Had 4 different wine flights to choose from. The baked brie was very delicious. The place filled up with about 30 ladies on a Friday so could be a good spot to get together with your girlfriends.

Love 404 Wine Bar and especially the new face lift it just received. Beautiful space and very nice service. A little more consistency with more than one bartender/server would be nice though, they get overwhelmed very quickly when it gets crowded due to the level of service they like to provide. Great variety of wines by the glass and bottle and highly knowledgable staff to help you choose. The food menu also got a revamp and while the nibbles and small plates are nice they just aren’t enough, more larger plates and more variety would be very nice. All in all I highly recommend this place, great little wine bar in a great neighborhood that won’t break the bank!

My husband and I stopped in for drinks and a quick app before dinner on a Friday night. The bartender was super nice and helpful. We had a couple great wine flights and loved the Seared NY Bruschetta from the small bites menu. We were one of 3 couple in the bar so it a very busy place, which was fine by us. Our bill was definitely on the high side for a few drinks and a small app but that’s probably what you should expect to pay at a wine bar in Lakeview. Love the fireplace, definitely need to stop back on a cold night!

404 Wine Bar was a fantastic surprise. Was looking for a relaxed atmosphere with good wine and conversation. The wine bar is a cozy warm inviting atmosphere with a couch area and fireplace but what made this a must do for me and the reason I will continue to return is named Kelly! Kelly is a knowledgeable personable FUN friend(I won’t even say bartender or server). Kelly became fast friends with our entire group, she immediately picked up on our likes and dislikes regarding wine and made solid recommendations that improved our evening. Not to jump on the Kelly bandwagon, but I will come back her repeatedly when she is working because she elevated the experience to a whole new level! Smart funny knowledgeable and also as a bonus she is sexy as hell. I’m gonna sign off my review and see if she has a Match profile!

Very cozy spot with dim lighting, wooden walls, and a fireplace. I was here with a Meetup group and there was another Meetup group there at the same time. I hear they are typically really accommodating for large groups and I found that to be the case for sure, but I think it’s also perfect for a date. I enjoyed the $ 8 flight of red wines(including a wonderfully smoky old vine zin– delicious!) and a lovely wrap with a side of sweet potato fries. My only suggestion is that they could really use a better music selection(a very specific mix of John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Jason Mraz, etc. was playing when I was there) but it wasn’t too obtrusive.

Its an ok wine bar. The wine selection and atmosphere is nice with the fire place and wooden interior. The only thing I did not like was the sports bar is just next door and it was very loud in the wine bar. It felt at times like we were in the sports bar next door.

After reading the reviews I thought this could be a workable first date spot. I went on a Wednesday night around 8:30pm. The wine bar was completely dead, nobody there. We ended up sitting in the outdoor patio area of the sports bar. Wasn’t the worst, there was a cool dude doing a one man guitar act, 8 dollar flights were a good deal, just wasn’t the atmosphere I was looking for. Ah well, I didn’t knock that chick’s socks off either.

This is a very French spot!!! Every time I’ve been in here, there are French speakers doing their thing… it’s like they all approve of this wine bar.(Which, the French would say«It’s not bad» instead of how good it is). The cheese and meat plates have always been of the highest quality and on certain nights, the glasses of wine are on sale. Very romantic spot for a date night!

I like this place a lot. I live nearby and it’s my standard go-to for a fairly low-key(but absolutely lovely) glass of wine and some unpretentious but delicious, light food. Velvet couches, a fire, dark lighting. Love it!

First off, I love this place. It’s perfect for a date, to go with a friend to catch up with one another, or to meet friends over wine and cheese or your favorite beer. I have eaten here in the past also and highly recommend the homemade Chicken Pot Pie. This is nothing like the frozen dinner. It’s handmade, fresh, and scrumptious. The fireplace in the corner is romantic and a nice touch on a cold evening. There are so many great eateries and wine bars throughout the city and I don’t often Unilocal either positive or negative very often. However, I was on a date over the weekend when a girl at an adjacent table had spilled her glass of wine onto my slacks. It was an accident and she apologized and that was enough to satisfy me. No big deal. The pants would have needed dry cleaning anyway after being worn. Then the bartender, who’s name begins with an L, came out to also apologize. That was nice, but unnecessary. I wasn’t at all upset. She went on to offer to buy us an additional glass of wine. We gracefully declined as the bottle was plenty for us. Then she went to get a clean towel and soda water to help blot the red wine on my pants. This was really over the top customer service, and we both appreciated the gesture. As if that weren’t more than enough, the manager came out, handed me his card, and explained that he was also very sorry about the incident. Come on you guys, it was a simple accident. But the manager, T. McC…, went on to practically beg me to bring in my dry cleaning bill. Certainly, patrons appreciate a bit of attention when something doesn’t go right. But these individuals completely understand customer service and want to do whatever possible to ensure their guests are extremely satisfied. Thank you 404 for going out of your way to make certain a glass of spilled wine didn’t ruin my evening. I will continue to spend my $$ here because simply put, you and your employees deserve our business.

I had been here before but was here to eat for the first time last night… and on a date so yay for me! Let’s just throw this out — they have Buffalo Mac & Cheese — delicious Buffalo Mac & Cheese in a bowl sized for a pasta dish. If I was reading this review, I’d just stop now and head on over. Anyway. I ordered the Big Onion Burger(I know, I know — why would I order an onion burger on a date? I don’t know but it sounded delicious plus I was drinking wine so I hoped it would cover the onion smell) and WOW… This thing was the size of was a man burger. It shows up with caramelized onions, fresh onions and onion rings and was about 8″ tall. Ha! I had to disassemble it(removed the onion rings and fresh onions) and then it was within the«manageable» landscape. It was delicious — seriously. The burger was juicy and flavorful… and the caramelized were delightful. I got the sweet potato fries with a side of honey mustard. Yum. He ordered the lobster roll which looked to be something one might be served at a «tea». He ate half my burger, I had a bite of his delicate finger food. His was OK. But then again, I’m not crazy about lobster. Then(as I mentioned above) he wanted to also split the buffalo mac & cheese. This mac & cheese was a gift from heaven. Chunks of buffalo chicken in the mac & cheese. This dude that I was with was a big guy… I thought there was no way we would finish everything… but the boy can eat! Great wine list, romantic atmosphere(couches, fireplace), good company, and couldn’t have had friendlier service(both the waitress and the bartender). We then moved to the Diag side for a couple more drinks after dinner. I’ll be back.

I bought a Rue La La deal for this place almost a year ago and finally got around to using it last night. The place is on a quiet section of Southport and is very cozy and comfortable inside. They have a fireplace in the corner with some more comfortable armchairs and then normal tables along the side. The bar was also very nice and fairly large given the size of the room. It was the perfect atmosphere for a night out during the cold winter weather. Our server was very helpful and suggested wine pairings with each of our courses. They had a nice wine selection(anytime I see Pinotage on a wine list I get excited). Food was good– you can order either off 404’s menu or the bar next door. We had French onion soup to start.(which was tasty– and had a little bit of a kick to it). We also had a cheese platter, which came with some nice fixings(the fruit spread was delicious). We tried a goat cheese, a cheddar, and a Gouda. The goat cheese was great; Gouda was ok; and the cheddar tasted like something I could have gotten in the cheap cheese section of the grocery store. My husband got a burger, which was enormous and came with 4 types of cheese– he very much enjoyed it. I had the mushroom flatbread– although a little heavy on the spices, all in all it was good. We had the apple tart for dessert which was AWESOME. The 4 course deal we got through Rue La La kept us there for over 2 hours. Although at times we enjoyed the drawn out dining experience, waiting almost an hour between finishing our main course and getting the check was a bit annoying. I think they were short staffed, but we felt a little abandoned by our server for the second half of the meal. This is the only reason I reserved the 5th star. Overall, we had a good experience and will likely return to this cozy spot.

I was disappointed by the place mainly because of the food. I got the chicken and my wife ordered the pork chops — both were extremely dry and not really seasoned well. At a wine bar, the food should be simple but still well executed and tasty. The wine was pretty decent, but a bit expensive($ 12 a flight) for what you get. We were recommended a more expensive bottle than what we originally wanted, went for it, and were disappointed(not really what we described that we liked). I will say the service was great and it has a wonderful ambiance, but those things can only take a place so far. I’ll go back to DOC or try another wine bar in the area before considering coming back here.

Great place to cozy up with someone at the fireplace, or share a few bottles with a larger group. Our group of 9 visited 2nd week of November. Nice, cozy place with an stylish bar area, couches and a fireplace, a patio area, and adjoining Jack’s sports bar, but not intrusive, at least not by 10pm. Casual but elegant. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and we were seated in the back room. We had the syrah flight(usually love syrahs, but didn’t like any of the selections), 4 vines flight(excellent, especially the tempranillo), but didn’t care for their menu, so ordered off the Jack’s one — cheesesteak and chicken sandwiches, which were just ok, but the sweet potato fries were yummy. Their wine selection is varied enough both in varietals and region. Would definitely return.

Put all fancy preconceived ideas of wine bars behind you. This place has got nothing on Bin 36, Webster’s, etc. I did, however, warm up to it towards the end of the night(hello, prosecco!) It’s a great location, comfortable seating area, nice ambience, and a pretty good wine list. What was missing? The food. We were told we could order off the Jack’s menu, which is the attached bar next door. Or we could have something from the very limited 404 menu, which was cheese, charcuterie, and a couple entrees. We decided on cheese and to share one of their entrees(scallops). The cheese presentation was lovely – apples, jam, bunch of grapes, crostini, and cheese arranged on a wooden platter. Maybe I’m just a snob, but I’d like to see a few more options on the food end. 404 isn’t the best wine bar in town, but if all you want is wine and cheese, then you’ll love it.
