Attended the public session on Sunday, 1÷03÷16. I have to agree with the other reviews, horrible skates. I’m not much of a skater haven’t been in years, I knew my ankles would hurt and their skates made it twice as bad. First they didn’t have any hockey skates to fit me, they gave me a size smaller then I asked for, like I wouldn’t notice. Then the figure skates they gave were way to stiff on the sides, way too stiff! I thought it was just me but the girlfriend said her ankle bones were in pain too. We got off and I loosened mine up over all, then re-laced hers to make it less tight around the middle section. The sides were so stiff she said it was still pulling in and hurting. After about twenty minutes we called it a day. Happily, the price for two with rental was only $ 10. The staff was friendly out front, but the staff on the ice wasn’t doing anything. Kids zooming and cutting around people, girls making a chain 6 wide. Another aggravation, the only bench in the rink area where you could sit down to adjust your skates was right in front of the lockers, not that it mattered since it was full of people who weren’t skaters anyway. Just sitting there drinking coffee and watching their kids skate. Will try St. Peters Rec-plex next. The gf has been there before for kid’s parties and said after two hours her feet were not hurting like these skates were doing. And she did have bruises on her feet when we got home, glad she didn’t try to just tough it out.

Would NOT recommend for an outing with family. Rental skates are VERY poorly maintained. Exposed rivets inside of boots, laces with cuts, not laced into eyelets, blades look like they were worn on concrete. Got a full refund. Not fun.

I came here with friends after finding out Skyzone is sold out on New Years Day. I have a feeling nobody in my group will be returning back to the Ice Plex. The main reason is the uncomfortable skates. I’m no ice skater but the skates were probably the most uncomfortable ice skates I have rented in my past experiences of ice skates rentals. Since my group paid $ 5 each for rental, we didn’t want to see the $ 5 go to waste and decided to skate around. Warning: you might feel bombarded by the children of Chesterhood because the rink was pretty crowded with kids whizzing by you. I am also aware that we went on New Year Day. Don’t worry there are positives at the complex. The staff is very friendly, and there is a concession stand with a decent snacking options. However, since you’re so freaking close to the Valley, I would eat outside the Plex at the many options that are offered. Also the rink felt pretty clean. Usually many indoor ice rink seems to smell like stinky wet feet. Sorry, Ice Plex but your rental skates stinks. They hurt so much you can barely stand. I had to double up on socks to relieve a little pain. I don’t think I will be returning again.
