The food is very good but we won’t go there anymore because the atmosphere is creepy, the place is usually empty, which means that the service is slow or nonexistent. Sometimes the owner will come out and go talk with certain tables of people that he knows but then he will ignore other tables. For the expense of it, there’s just better places to go.

Great food, lousy ambiance. We were there on a weeknight; the restaurant was nearly empty but they were blaring the TVs — and refused to turn the sound down when asked. Server kept suggesting off-menu items or modifications even after we made it clear we were not interested. Pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce on the rigatoni was divine, but not enough to overcome the off-putting atmosphere.

Stopped in here while visiting St Louis on a work trip. Upon walking in, you cannot see the seating area, there is no sign to seat yourself or wait. I waited at the hostess station for 4 minutes before someone appeared. There were 5 tables of customers seated on one side and the other had a party of about 22 men. I chose a seat in the bar area and was able to watch the Cardinals play on television. I love eggplant so I ordered the appetizer. It comes as two medallions, about the diameter of a tennis ball and around 1 inch thick. I prefer my eggplant to be thin so I was nervous about the order as it arrived. This eggplant was the best I have even eaten. It was rich, moist, and very succulent. I enjoyed it more after removing the skin and using just a bit of salt. This dish needs to come with a side of fettuccine alfredo and be served as a meal! I really wanted fettuccine alfredo for my meal but asked the recommendation of the waitress between that and rigatoni giuseppe. She recommended the rigatoni so that is what I went with. After the first couple of bites I was afraid I made a poor choice, but as the spices of the vodka cream sauce began to kick in, I realized I made the right decision. This sauce is amazing. I wanted to eat the entire serving, but after the eggplant appetizer, I couldn’t. My waitress never smiled the entire meal and acted like she desperately wanted to be elsewhere. That mixed with the poor greeting is the only reason I rated this 4 stars. The food will definitely bring me back if I am in that area again.

Excellent Italian food! This gem is sort of hidden in Chesterfield Valley. I highly recommend trying it! They have music some evenings, which provides a nice atmosphere.

A hidden gem. My wife and I ate there tonight for the first time and it was fantastic. Authentic Italian/Sicilian food. Everything was delicious – the fresh-baked bread, the spicy vodka sauce rigatoni, and the tiramisu. The staff was all very friendly as well. It’s a little tucked away(behind the Chesterfield Galaxy Cinema, next to Oishi), but it’s well worth seeking out!

We went here for Christmas Eve and the food was that of a microwave meal. If you are not in the in crowed with the owner forget it. He was telling«off the menu» items to what was obvivosuly regualrs. The loudeness was that of a cheap sports bar in South Saint Louis. They ran out of a dessert at 6:30, maybe if the owner was not«visiting» instead of monorting his Mexican crew in the kictchen maybe they quality of the food would be better and would not run out of food so soon . And where was Mama?

One of my favorite restaurants in St. Louis! My family and I are close friends with the owner, such a great guy! And his food is excellent from the appetizer to the desert! It’s definitely a place you don’t wanna pass by if your hungry!

My parents really like this place(as you can see from a rare 5-star review from Jon T.) and I would have to agree. I’ve been twice now and tried a couple different things. My parents like the aranccini, and again, I’d back them up on that. The service is a single rice ball, but it’s good sized, filled with nice tender meat and properly cooked risotto, all in a nice crispy shell. Perfect size to split between two people, or even 3 if you’re just looking for a little bite. For entrees, I’ve had the chicken parmigiana, which is something I would normally never order, and the veal saltimbocca, which is kind of a favorite item at Italian places. The chicken parmigiana was a selection when I was freshly back from a vacation in Japan, and I was just craving veggies and tomatoes, which I didn’t get enough of while overseas. This absolutely hit the spot, with a bright tangy tomato sauce that was really delicious. The pan fried chicken and the cheese are not exactly light fare, but the combo was perfect. The veal saltimbocca was similarly good, not too drowned in sauce like it sometimes can be, and not pounded paper thin so you couldn’t taste the veal. I’ve also sampled another family member’s penne a la vodka, which was superb. Reminded me that I love that dish, and next time I visit, it’s almost certainly what I’ll get. Service is always very friendly, and the prices are in line with the quality of the food. I do hope they’re getting enough traffic — they’re a little tucked back in a strip mall so they’re not exactly showing a lot of drive by presence. In any case, I definitely won’t turn it down if the parental units suggest another visit.

Based on other ratings, was probably an off night but our experience tonight ranks a three — barely. We came after work on a Monday. I made reservations but was definitely not needed. We were shown to a table right away and I ordered the Spicy Meatball appetizer.(3 of us). The menu has great items and is not overly extensive, which I appreciate, pick a few great things and do them well. Took a really long time for the app to come out and when it did, there were four meatballs. They were room temperature instead of piping hot as you would expect. Taste wise they were just ok. I got the special filet topped with blue cheese, mozzarella and mushrooms in a sauce with a pomodorro(basically a caprese) salad. First, the«salad» looked like a whole underripe beefsteak tomato cut in half with the thinnest slices of mozzarella on each half, a few slivers of red onion and some balsamic. It was laughable. The steak was delicious but the mushrooms did not taste fresh. The colleagues I was with were equally disappointed in their meals. The waiter was nice albeit a little too talkative for my taste. I don’t need to know that there’s only one guy in the back… Anyhow I’m sure it was an off night but based on the number of fantastic Italian places around, I don’t think I will be back to try again.

The owner, Joe, is super friendly and has been there to greet me and my friends both of the times we’ve been there. The starter bread with the oil dipping dipping sauce is very satisfying. The rolls are apparently made everyday by Joe’s mother! The pasta with the spicy vodka sauce is amazing and the tiramisu absolutely delicious!!! I shared it with my boyfriend and I have never seen a dessert disappear in my belly so quick! I will definitely be going back!

I have eaten in the same complex about 10 times and never noticed this gem. So happy to have found it. Great food, great service. My wife and I both had the specials. The veal with Wine reduction was excellent. A little pricey for me, but the ambiance, food and service were a nice surprise.

I had the Tutto Mare for dinner, and it was super. We sat at the bar because we felt like it. Table was a bit too close to other people for my date. The bartender was lovely, and did a great job with timing. He was happy with his Caesar salad and he’s particular about them. He liked his chicken parm, too. Will go back. It is a bit noisy because they don’t have anything absorbing ambient noise, so know that. All in all, yummy.

Arrived at 5:45 on a Saturday evening without a reservation. The pleasant hostess seated us promptly, dining room had at least half the tables unseated. Waited forever for a server to appear. Everyone very apologetic about the wait. Food also took a very long time. Again more apologies. Food was very good, nice portions. Wine selection is fair but appropriately priced. They need to address service and timing issues to keep people coming back.

Amazing food and amazing service! I can’t think of anything that could have been better about our experience. I’d definitely recommend the fettuccine Alfredo and basically any of the entrees! The service was fabulous and the owner was a great guy. Can’t wait to go back!

Now I have been to Filippo’s three(make that 11 as of June 2016) times and Ms T has been there an additional two times. We really like the place. Most recently we took Aunt Susan and had a wonderful meal in a nice atmosphere. Previously I had only been there on a weeknight and the clientele was sparse. This was a Friday night and there was a good crowd enjoying the evening. The vibe was good and that was good to see and feel. The previous two times I really enjoyed the rack of lamb and while that is always tempting, I went for pasta this time. We took two bottles of wine. Corkage is $ 15(since raised to $ 20). They provide good wine glasses and actually replaced them with clean ones when we opened the second bottle. We started with our usual calamari and split it. It is always very good, served with a light marinara. Ms T diverged from pasta for once, with Chicken Parmagiana. This is not something I would normally order but I must say my sample bites were very good and I would make an exception for Filippo’s version. The tomato sauces here are light and fresh tasting, not pasty, heavy or sweet. The chicken was cooked just right, leaving it moist. Aunt Susan debated between Spaghetti Bolognese and Linguine Pescatore with the linguine winning out, so I ordered the spaghetti and added a couple of meat balls. A man needs meat, right? I also«never» order spaghetti and meat balls, but this was excellent. The sauce Bolognese was loaded with meat and to be honest, while the meatballs are very good, they really are not necessary. Aunt Susan and I traded plates to we could each taste the other dish. I also would certainly order the Linguine Pescatore. Again the sauce is light, not heavy handed. The flavors were very good. All three of these dishes were something I would return to. In fact in a total of five visits for Ms T and I, we have never had something we would not re-order. It is a great place with very good food and excellent service. And don’t forget Mama’s homemade sesame rolls to start with. They certainly can fill your adult beverage needs but they graciously handle your wine corkage very well. This is a bit of a hidden gem in West County but it feels like they are being discovered. I hope so. June 2016 — Just a report on the latest. We went for our anniversary. I previously enjoyed Salmon with a creamy seafood sauce, which was delicious. This time I had Seabass and substituted the Sauce Francesca for the chopped tomatoes. It was perfect. The sear on the fish made it crispy, but moist inside. Ms T had the shrimp but substituted Scampi treatment for the listed Cajun cream sauce. Also wonderful, tart and garlicky. The excellent, flavorful freshly made lobster ravioli appetizer had the Cajun cream sauce and I would get it on anything. The point here is that they are flexible. You can substitute preparations and sauces. Filippo’s remains a genuine favorite for us. We love being able to have this quality of food so close to home.

My college chum and I went for dinner courtesy of a Groupon I’d purchased. We both got the Filippos salad($ 7), which was great and tasty of mixed greens, tomato and artichoke hearts. Then we both got the Rigatoni Giuseppe($ 12), which is tomato and spicy vodka sauce. It was good.

This is a 5-star review about an experience that deserves more stars. Went there with a Groupon having never been in the place before. It was a quiet Tuesday evening after a 3-day holiday weekend so the place was not very busy. Whatever dinner rush they experienced had likely left already. Generally, this is worrisome for me because too often the servers are consumed with side work plus trying to get cut and the result can be some really indifferent service. Not this time! We had absolutely fantastic service and a couple of visits from the owner who explained that his mother does a lot of the cooking — rolls, sauces, desserts — the same way she has been making them for decades. The wife and I decided to split two entrees but I really wanted to try a seafood salad so we added one of those as well. What a great choice that turned out to be. It was more like a plate of calamari, baby octopus, shrimp, bay and sea scallops on a few pieces of lettuce than anything else I can reference to describe this plate of deliciousness. The wife ordered their filet special and it was amazing. Cooked exactly right, amazing flavor, great beef all around and the nuances of the preparation were exactly as the waiter had described. I asked my usual question: «what are the most popular dishes on your menu?» and I’m glad that I took his recommendation and ordered the rigatoni in the spicy vodka cream sauce. I generally do not order simple pasta dishes but really wanted to try this one after the waiter told me that they had such high demand for the sauce that it is now available in the local grocery stores. After confirming that they were still making fresh batches for the restaurant I opted in. I’m really glad that he pitched the dish to me the way I did because I would have certainly glossed over it otherwise. The sauce was delicate yet spicy and incredibly flavorful. They added several tablespoons of a fresh tomato sauté that was just delicious and the pasta was cooked exactly right. We finished the steak but took home about half of the pasta. I had planned to have it for lunch the next day but the wife snuck downstairs after I went to bed and ate almost all of it so I had to supplement with a pb&j…and was left wanting more! We will definitely be going back to this place!
