On our last day of living in the area, we went to Annie Gunns… what a huge mistake!!! We should have been coming here all along! I had the Grouper and the wife had filet mignon. She likes her steaks well done… and to get a filet mignon well done without butterflying it and not burning it takes a bit of skill. Her steak was the way she wanted it perfectly! We both tried a mix of crab cake and grilled jumbo shrimp. The crab cake is slightly spicy, but it isn’t overpowering. The shrimp was awesome! Never had grilled shrimp that tasted so good. The grape vodka refresher was simply heaven on a hot day. Followed it all with some yummy bread pudding and and a Irish Coffee. Our waitress was wonderful and my water glass never got under half full. We will be going back the next time we are in the area.

After outlet mall shopping, we worked up an appetite. My wife has a thing for a good hamburger so I took her to Annie Gunn’s. She chose their«Classic Burger» that they are know for. It was really, really good. The pork belly on it makes it mouth watering. I tried their lobster roll. It was good too. I don’t often think a $ 10+ burger is worth the price, but this one was. I’ve been to this place many times before and the prices were almost the most memorable part of past experiences. However, if you go during the day and order a sandwich or burger, it is much more economical.

Absolutely one of the best restaurants in St. Louis. Local, fresh ingredients, and a wide variety on the menu. You can make it a casual evening with a sandwich or burger, or a high end event with steak and the whole nine yards. I’ve visited over 15 times and have tried nearly everything on the menu. I’ve never been less than amazed.

Two words. French dip. Never an ounce of fat on the meat, the most delicious bread, melted cheese, and if you sub out the french fries and get the whipped Yukon potatoes, it’s the type of meal I would have if it were my last meal ever.

If you’ve never been, I can’t rave enough about their steak and service. The steak is so perfect you could cut it with a spoon. Really a fantastic meal every time I’ve been. It is very pricey, but it’s a treat so you expect it. A little secret — if you are ok with not having a formal meal, go at 5 or so during the week and eat in the bar — usually you can get right in. Same great food, more relaxed and no need for a reservation if you go a little before everyone else. Great bartenders too

So my friend and I just got done with the Battlegrounds Mud Run, and we were famished to say the least. To celebrate our recent accomplishment, I suggested we try the 3rd best Steakhouse in St. Louis as rated by my fellow Unilocalers. We ordered the Chef Lou’s «wow» board. The blood sausage and andouille were the highlights. We ordered the steak special prepared medium rare. It was okay at best. I finished with some cinnimon ice cream, which was very tasty. Bottom line, the start and finish was great, but the middle had a lot to be desired.

Eat here. Now. Annie Gunn’s has been in the back of my mind for a long time, so when we ended up in Chesterfield on a Saturday night, I knew it was time. No reservation, so we waited a long time. But the staff were so friendly and helpful. After we got a spot at the bar to continue our wait for a table, it was great. The bartenders know the beer and wine list well. My wife had a Moscow mule and it was excellent. At last, a table was available and we studied the menu. Steak sounded good, so my wife got the 6 oz filet and I had the 16 oz ribeye. Both were fantastic. Easily the best steak I can remember eating. The mashed potatoes, squash and asparagus were perfectly prepared. There are far more adventurous items on the menu, but we thought steak was the best bet on our first visit. We weren’t disappointed. Moving on to dessert, the bread pudding was superb. All served by a great server who knew her stuff. The bottom line is that Annie Gunn’s is a very friendly, comfortable and delicious place for a meal. Even when you show up on a Saturday night without reservations, the staff go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. This is a special place. We will be back.

This may be one of the best little places in St. Louis proper. The food in the restaurant is always top notch. The service is always beyond expectations. Besides all that, they have a primo name brand food store next door, providing fresh meats, and prime ingredients for an unbelievable home made dinner. Don’t hesitate, get there quickly!

Went here for my girlfriends birthday with her parents. We have been trying to get reservations here for a while. So we figured a Wednesday night would be a good time to get one. This place was packed! And I now understand why. The food here is amazing. First off, the waitress poured us a tiny glass of champaign just for coming in, that was awesome. Then we started out with four large smoked shrimp. There were delicious and you could really taste the smoke coming through as well. We also had the pork belly. This was exactly like bacon and it came with an orange and soy sauce glaze. For the main course, the ladies had the 6 oz filet mignon, her dad had the lamb and I had the half chicken. All came with mashed potatoes that were so creamy and velvety that they just kind of melted in your mouth, a few pieces of asparagus and some of the best carrot I have ever had. Maple glazed carrot, probably one of the best things I ate that night. The steaks and lamb were cooked beautifully. The chicken I had was some of the best fine dining chicken I have had. It was so juicy and the skin was crispy. It was so good I wish it was a whole chicken. Then for dessert they brought a slice of apple pie and two scoops of ice cream for the birthday girl. Our waitress was amazing. She really knew everything about the menu and all the specials they had. They had several off the menu seafood specials that sounded amazing! She was very attentive and made sure everything came out in a timely manner. They also have an amazing bar, it’s double sided and hits both sides of the restaurant. I would say the whole draw back of this place was the size. Being so small they had to jam pack tables in there and the table next to us was literally 6 inches away. Other than that, this place is amazing and if you are looking for a special treat head here.

Zoiks! Not sure how anyone throws up less than 5 stars. This is a great spot. The smokehouse theme permeates the menu which is a refreshing change from the typical steakhouse. I disagree highly with the negative reviews on some of the sides being too«homestyle». If you want those you know where to go — the usual suspects/chains too many to list. I went Hog Chop — wow. Double cut thick chop and cooked perfectly. Sides of potato salad(served chilled — the best I’ve had anywhere), cubed squash, asparagus, and pickled onions. A small hint of sliced pears to round the flavors out. The starter was great too. Warm spinach salad with homemade cured thinly sliced ham. Beautiful smokey flavor and the dressing was just right. Old school and cool history — you won’t be disappointed. Ed was at the bar and service matched the food quality. Run don’t walk!

Yes. Yes. Yesssssss. Oh the things I’ve heard about Annie Gunn’s. Shot of moscato as an apéritif? Off to a good start already… We started with beef tartare and grilled, smokey prawns. The beef was fresh and melt-in-your-mouth smooth and this is coming from someone who isn’t big on tartare. The egg that comes with it is silk. The flavors of the prawns are AMAZING but the texture is a bit tough. Is that just characteristic of prawns? Doesn’t stop me from wanting more cause it has such a sharp, smokey bbq flavor… drooling. For my entrée I had a 10? oz. New York strip done medium rare. Guhhhh the meat and sides are so simple but so good. Taking the best quality ingredients and cooking them in their purest form made them so tasty! Had bites of the lamb shank that was tender and amazing. Saw my coworker gnaw the lamb off the bone – that’s saying something. I would’ve done the same. Tried the french dip too and the meat was so tender in a delicious au jus and I was never really a fan of french dip either. Dang you Annie Gunn’s, making me like things I didn’t think I liked… Dessert was also delicious. The bread pudding sauce could be eaten by the spoonful. The cookies and cream crème brûlée was just okay. Screw feeling guilty about eating so much because it was all SO worth it.

Being from Southern California, we have these types of places all over the place… given the darn population. This place, however, knocked almost all of the places out of the water here. The ambient noise wasn’t too loud, the wait staff was extremely patient and kind. My wife and I will be moving to the St Louis area in a few months and I’ll be eating here again, for sure!

After living 15 minutes away from Annie Gunn’s for the past 7 years, I finally made a trip to the restaurant for dinner. We ordered the house smoked seafood sampler, the lobster mac n cheese, the filet mignon, and the trout(seafood special). The scallops and the jumbo shrimp were definitely the highlights of the seafood sampler. Annie Gunn’s serves some of the yummiest lobster mac n cheese I’ve tasted. The dish came with a satisfying amount of lobster, perfectly crunchy bread crumbs, and just the right amount of cheese. The trout came perfectly seared and the filet mignon was very good. I will be coming back for another delicious dinner and attentive/friendly service.

If you’re a local, you know about Annie Gunn’s. If you’re not from the area, do yourself a favor and check it out… It’s great for lunch, but dinners are special here. Whether it’s an incredible steak, piece of fish, roasted chicken, something off menu or the daily specials… It’s always DELICIOUS!!! The wine list is great and the martini’s are even better. If I had one complaint, I wish they had a better selection of draft beers… During the holidays we had dinner there with friends and as always, it did not disappoint. We ordered appetizers(WOW Platter), bottles of wine, martini’s, beers, fresh salads, off menu specials and menu items that included the 34oz Tomahawk steak, 8oz lobster tail, salmon special, 24oz Cowboy Ribeye and 10oz filet… Sides like blue cheese or garlic whipped potatoes, asparagus, butternut squash, etc complimented the perfectly cooked meals… As we kept ordering food, it kept getting better and better. The Irish coffee’s and dessert we ordered(Bread Pudding & Apple Pie) came to the table, but one particular item stole the show… The pastry chef(Danielle Luisi) came to our table to introduce herself and brought us a complimentary treat. A Poptart… That’s right a homemade Pop-tart… What’s the big deal you ask… It was the best thing we ate the entire evening. IN-CRED-IBLE… It was so good that the table ordered another one to split. Danielle was absolutely delightful and her baking skills come from a higher power. As always, the entire staff and service was great and didn’t disappoint. Thanks again for great evening and another incredible meal. See you soon!

Ever since my sister and her family moved to Chesterfield, I’ve had the good fortune of enjoying at least one meal at Annie Gunn’s over the holidays. The restaurant is traditional, country cozy, rustic: and even though Annie Gunn’s has a reputation for excellent food and a stellar wine program(the menu spans 32 pages), it’s a come-as-you-are environment. So you won’t feel uncomfortable showing up in jeans and a sweater or conversely, clad in your black lace date night frock(and I’m pretty sure my sister’s rocked both of those scenarios). Onto the food and drink. As I mentioned above, Annie Gunn’s wine program is long on award-winning wines. But the craft beer drinker will also be more than content: with both Goose Island’s Sofie and Boulevard’s Tank 7 on the draft list, your biggest struggle will be making a decision. If you’re a beef-lover, Annie is known for her steaks though I highly recommend the burger — seriously, it’s one of the best I’ve ever had! They offer a few variations, but get the ‘Classic’ as it’s topped with brown sugar cured house-smoked local hog belly. Yesssssssssss sir. Annie pivots from high-brow to low-brow on a whim: on the appetizer menu, you’ll drool over sautéed foie gras and veal sweetbreads while pondering an epicurean take on fried chicken wings and crab Andouille sausage cakes. God bless America! Service is always stellar and the restaurant is usually packed… this means you absolutely should make a reservation in advance especially if you’re looking for a prime time weekend time slot. Don’t be surprised if a week out, the only times available are 4:30pm and 9pm! Annie Gunn’s reputation enjoys a wide reach, and deservedly so. One note about the attached market: my sister and I went on Christmas Eve morning to pick up a pie and some horseradish sauce for our prime rib. The line snaked out the door(thank goodness it was relatively warm) and even though most of the people in line needed to place an order with the deli, we weren’t allowed to head to the cash wrap even though we were ready to pay. These 30+ frustrating minutes(we weren’t the only ones grumbling) could have been easily avoided if they empowered their line attendants with iPads and Square technology. Just a thought!

Wow! What a great place. Came here from California on a golf trip and were advised to come to Annie Gunns. Great call. Had a sumptuous dinner and took the waitress’ advice and ordered the chefs favorite dish the roasted chicken and my God was it fantastic. Would would have thought a roasted chicken could be so good? Pan gravy was perfect, skin crackled and the meat was moist. Cocktails were tasty and the only critique was the service was a little slow at times. If I ever come back, I will definitely be back!

I know there’s a lot better food here than just a burger but I came in for lunch for just a burger. One of the best burgers I have ever had! Of course this is a fancy place so I had to have something fancy with it. So I had a couple raw oysters. Excellent!

I’m almost upset with myself for having waited this long to experience Annie Gunn’s! The exterior really down-plays the overall output, seriously. I knew what I was in for when I observed neatly folded linen napkins on the tabletops. Stopped in on a humbug just to grab a salad and was completely blown away. I had on gym clothes(I’m always in gym clothes) but like I said the exterior gave me the notion that gym attire would be totally fine. Walked in to be greeted with a warm smile by the hostess. She lead us to a beautiful high booth table(offered plenty privacy) in the bar area. Our server Judy, was extremely pleasant, awesome personality and a pro at shooting off the range of specials for the evening. I love a server who doesn’t have to constantly glance down at a notebook to explain specials; takes skill. Judy got our orders and poured shots of Moscato as a welcome token. She placed a basket of warm rolls & butter on the table to munch on while dinner was being prepared. My dining partner ordered the Annie Gunn’s Classic burger med-well and loved it; he stated the burger was juicy, bun fresh & toasted, the cheddar was perfectly melted atop, the tomatoes were sliced nice & thick, fries decent but he could tell Annie Gunn’s didn’t specialize in burgers but rather more fine dining items such as steaks and pork. He gave the potato soup a standing ovation! It was absolutely world-class and the bacon was something so delicious he couldn’t describe it for me(I don’t do pork) I just have to take his speechlessness and bowl cleaning devouring of the soup as a winner. I ordered the small Local Beet salad. Amazing! Both red and golden beets, berries, greens, toasted almonds, berry vinaigrette and of course…(drum roll please) GOATCHEESE! This was very tasty and a light starter. The presentation was beautiful as well. Next I decided to play with a couple of the special items. I was given the option to place a full order or single of their grilled jumbo shrimp which came with black bean garnish and Annie’s housemade BBQ sauce for dipping as well as the Oyster drizzled in vodka and topped with caviler. I chose 1 of each and they both knocked my Nike socks off. I can not wait to return and try so many more items that caught my eye. Oh and gym attire was not a problem at all. There were people in jeans, dresses, blazers, button-ups, slacks, ball caps and of then you have me in Nike and Asics apparel. This place is come as you are(decently of course) and order whatever your heart desires.

Annie Gunns is my entire families go to spot ever since we moved to STL. The fact that we have eaten here almost weekly for 20 years not only says something for the food, but for the amazing atmosphere and phenomenal staff! We have become family with the people there. The food speaks for itself, which is why Annie’s is never anything but filled with people enjoying themselves with mouthfuls of greatness. My recommendations would be start with the jumbo shrimp starter, it comes with a bean salsa and the BBQ shrimp is to die for. The tomato salad when is season is an amazing start to your meal as well. Large, juicy, organic tomatoes with onions, goat cheese and a homemade dressing. Let me just say YUM! Then for the meals, you can never go wrong with a special they have of the day. But, if you want a menu item, I would highly recommend the meat loaf, the French dip sandwich, the burger, or the Cesar salad with smoked chicken. Honestly, I have never tried anything there that has not exceeded by tastebuds expectations! Not only is the restaurant unbelievable but the smokehouse right next door is the perfect place to pick up some of your favorites served in the restaurant and to find some new gems for your appetite. They have incredible sandwiches and great choices of fresh meats, cheeses, wines, dips, and homemade pies. We always stop in here before or after we eat and pick up something. If you make a trip there, grab some Annie Gunns special seasoning. It’s a seasoning that goes on everything. Before i grill or cook up chicken, steak, burgers, I always sprinkle the seasoning on top. This is one of those finds you won’t regret picking up. It’s a miracle this placed survived the flood of 1993, and I am so thankful that it did! The«valley» would never be the same without it. If you haven’t tried it yet, make a reservation and get on it, you won’t regret it!

Steeped in history, Annie Gunns exemplifies warm country hospitality with rich generous portions of delicious food, an out of this world wine list, and praiseworthy service. What started as a meat market in the Chesterfield Valley back in the 1930’s when it was just corn fields(well before«The Valley» became the sprawling strip mall it is today) went on to become a favorite local restaurant. After being covered by flood waters during«the big flood of 1993» Annie Gunns rebuilt both The Smokehouse Market & Annie Gunns Restaurant which have continued to grow in popularity and renown in the St. Louis area. I have had the good fortune of dining at Annie Gunns numerous times over the past 15 or so years and have had a great experience EACH and EVERY time. As it happens my most recent visit to Annie Gunns was on Valentines Day. My husband & I had a very romantic & delicious dinner with an outstanding bottle of wine for this special occasion. The award winning wine list here is probably THE best if not the longest in the St. Louis area. With special staff dedicated to the wine program you will find verticals from Schafer, Opus One & Château Musar and many others, large format bottles and wines from all over the world with something in every price range and for every taste. The sommelier(s) can help you find a bottle of wine(or a glass) that you are sure to love just in case the massive wine list is overwhelming or intimidating! Annie Gunns also does wine dinners with«meet the winemaker» opportunities several times a year if you wish to immerse yourself in the world of wine. These typically include a fixed menu meal with wine pairings from a specific winery. There is so much to love about their wine program! The food here is very meat-centric with the SmokeHouse tie. Steaks, seafood, lamb, chicken & pork are all done VERY well. At my most recent visit we started with the smoked shrimp appetizer which was melt in your mouth delicious. My husband & I both ordered fish entrees that were prepared to perfection and enjoyed a Red Velvet«Pop Tart» for dessert which was served hot with ice cream melting over the top of it. I have a very vivid memory from another meal at Annie Gunns in which I enjoyed«the best cheeseburger of my life». So, if you are looking for a great burger, this is the place to get it. While Annie Gunns is not the white tablecloth elegant experience you might get at Niche, Eleven Eleven Mississippi, or Vin De Set you will get a dark wood, rustic, country chic, hearty, meaty meal prepared with creativity, locally farmed ingredients, and warm hospitality. If your dining with someone special you may even find it romantic!
