We love this restaurant! We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here in the private room. The food is amazing and the staff is very attentive. The macaroni and cheese(kids version with no lobster) is the best I have ever had. The prime rib is fantastic as well. We love that this restaurant is right down the street from us, but it’s always packed. I recommend making a reservation even on a week night. This place is with the wait if you don’t make a reservation ahead of time.

I was a bit disappointed with my first experience with The Butcher’s Son. I ordered the Bronco Burger which was recommended by our hostess upon sitting down and then to only be further talked up by our waitress. It comes with your usual toppings along with an onion ring. I ordered my burger medium rare which was then brought out to me medium-done-ish. The fries were delicious and my wife enjoyed her prime rib. The couple we went with ordered fish tacos(which were said to be great) and a steak and crab patty(which was said to be mediocre. We were batting .500 by the end of the night and I was truly hoping to be closer to the 1.000 mark due to the other reviews. I will go again because there are always the off nights.

This restaurant is very inviting but pricey. I’ll pay good money for a good meal but this was below basic. My steak came out cold. They reheated it and it was still cold. If I pay 25 for 12 ounces of steak, I expect perfection. I would’ve been better at Outback steakhouse. And gotten a few sides which weren’t included. Definitely no.

Excellent!!! We arrived for dinner pretty late, it was around 9:15, it was pretty empty but the atmosphere was full of life. Very relaxing. Moving forward our waiter was very attentive, he brought water and bread out immediately, and was very pleasant. I ordered a Moscow Mule(delicious) my boyfriend ordered a Manhattan(he said it was really good) I ordered the she crab soup and the scallops dinner. First off the she crab soup was amazing, not the best I have ever had but enough sherry to make your mouth water. For my main course I ordered the scallops dinner it came with two side, i ordered the mash potatoes and cucumber salad. Now let me say it’s very rare I write reviews but the scallops were amazing, they were not over cooked and seasoned just enough where you got to appreciate the plumpness of the scallop. The mashed potatoes seasoned perfectly and mashed to perfection. The cucumber salad was so light and delicious. My boyfriend ordered the New York strip(medium rare) with the broccolini he enjoyed it so much I didn’t hear a peep out of him till he was done.(now he is not the quiet one so for him to sit there and quietly eat his food you know it was good) but overall I will be going back!

This place is fabulous. We’re huge steak snobs and this places is one of the best. Fantastic flavor and always prepared perfectly. The sides are very good with huge portions. We really enjoy the mashed potatoes and the asparagus. Some places you go the asparagus is undercooked and bitter(looking at you Ruth’s Chris) but it’s always been good here. Finish your dinner with the cookies and milk, it’s a great end to the meal. Simple and comforting after indulging.

The best steak house in south Hampton Roads! A great addition to the limited dinning scene in Great Bridge. It can be very busy at times and reservations are recommended.

This was our first time dining here and there were some highs and lows. First the good– the she crab soup was delicious. It was light and creamy with big bites of crab and just the right touch of sherry. The sesame tuna appetizer was spot on. Now for the disappointments –the salads are very small, no bread was served and the ribeye looked more like a strip steak. I always look forward to the fatty part of a ribeye but there was none! Overall the dinner was good but for the price I was expecting exceptional.

Food was pretty good, but they try too hard to make it fancy. We’re in South Chesapeake, not downtown Norfolk. There are probably five other places I can the same steak for half the price.

Got the stuffed chicken and it was fantastic. Loved their mashed potatoes and the great ambiance. Was not a fan of our servers above the knee length skirt, but that is not relevant in terms of quality of the meal. Enjoyed our visit.

Tried this place for the first time the other day. Was pleasantly surprised. I did not realize that there was so many other restaurants in that area. I will admit it was a little pricey but the quality of the food was good. The service was good. The place has a bar and an open seating area. There is also a private room on he side but did not see any parties in there. We had the appetizers and I will tell you the house sauce has a kick and the jalapeño bacon jam is awesome. I would recommend the specialty items, they are little less expensive and will give you good sampling of what they have. Stakes were good and cooked as I liked. Would go back again.

Went Saturday night at 7, prime time. Parking lot was full but there was complimentary valet(tipped him of course). The restaurant was very busy but well laid out, our party of 10 was easily spotted. Seating was tight but comfortable. Even though the place was packed, our waiter was easily available, and we didn’t have any mix ups. Drinks were constantly filled, and our food all came out at the same time. The food was incredible. The plates were large which made the normal portions SEEM smaller, but I was very satisfied at the end of the meal. Appetizers were great. I ate well prepared foods that I normally don’t like, such as onion or tomato dishes. Even the sauces were a huge hit. The seafood was fresh and flavorful. The steak cuts were prepared to perfection. Even dessert(milk and cookies) was better than I could have made at home. There are plenty of different style seating to choose from, from intimate to open. The bar staff is refreshingly knowledgable and friendly. The liquor choice rivals the ABC store. Hats off to the Chef. I had a great dining experience.

This is our fav spot in Chesapeake for steak for sure! The steaks are excellent, but not over priced, and the desserts are lovely as well. We dig the ambiance too with the muted black and white classic movies on the tv in the corner of the BAR(in lighted marquise letters no less), some snazzy leather raised booths, and the crisp looking knowledgable waitstaff.

Ok… here’s the skinny. Service has been always really friendly and professional. Absolutely no complaints… only compliments. Both times I’ve dined at the restaurant, they were out of the foods I’ve ordered. First time it was the salmon, second time it was prime rib on prime rib night. That was a complete bummer since Weds is their prime rib night and they were all out of rare and only had well done. Also, they open at 5 and when I show up at 6:30ish…they have already ran out of certain foods? All in all, the food is good but just like watching both the Republican and Democratic debates, I somehow leave feeling depressed and looking for something better. I hear the line for their brunch is crazy though… So they must be doing something right! I’ll give them another try.

Went here for Sunday brunch buffet with some friends who suggested it. I never knew this place existed or that they had such a high quality buffet. I would highly suggest calling ahead and doing a reservation prior to coming out here. There were plenty of people waiting when we arrived. When you arrive, they do what they can with the space they have. However, everything is a little scattered. The buffet areas are as follows: There is the main buffet line with sausages, bacon, and small things. An omelette bar which is an absolute must Mimosa bar(order the champagne from your server) A dessert bar with pastries A meat/misc bar which(I hear this rotates) had fresh cut meat and chicken and waffles. Be sure to visit find all the bars before you make your decision. You will be very disappointed if you miss one. Service was very«iffy». While our server was very friendly, simple things were continually left out. We had to clear our plates numerous times. When we arrived with our daughter, no one offered a high chair. I had to go get it myself — while carrying my daughter. Lastly, food kept running out at different bars. We had to continually go ask someone to refill«something». If it weren’t for these minor details(you expect a lot from here), I would’ve given this place a 5 star rating without hesitation. As expected, the food was very top notch. Ultimately, I tried a little bit of everything(it was that good) and wasn’t disappointed. The facility was a bit scattered(as mentioned above) and somewhat disorganized. Overall manageable but just things to pay attention to when planning to go here. I would love to go again and I’m sure I will but I just hope these minor things change next time so I can give this place a 5 star rating as I’m sure they deserve it. Food Taste: 5 Overall Service: 3.5 Value of food to cost: 4 Facility: 4 Repeat customer: yes Dog Friendly: no

The Butcher’s Son was everything my wife and I were hoping to find in a fine-dining steak house. We dropped the kids off at their grandparents’ house and made it a point to check out this restaurant on our not-often-enough date night. First, we were delighted immediately by the décor. Much thought was put into the design and ambiance of the dining area which is highlighted by the light fixture choices and the large marquee«BAR» sign on the beautifully multi-shelved back wall. Second, the staff were courteous and knowledgeable. Third, the food lived up to the pressure that has been put upon The Butcher’s Son to be a truly fine dining establishment. The two side sauces we tried with our steaks were both unique and complimentary to the cuts of meat. Finally, we are more than thrilled that it’s located in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake. I highly recommend The Butcher’s Son.

We went to the Butcher’s Son for a birthday dinner. The place is stunning. It has a beautiful ambience. The hostess and server were absolutely kind and attentive; which is why I was a bit disappointed the food was not up to par. The complimentary bread given was a bit hard, but not Italian hard. Hard hard. I ordered the Steak & Cake. It was mediocre. The crab cake was very tasty but the baked potato wasn’t cooked long enough, it was undercooked. I will however give an applause for their kids menu. I have a picky almost 3 year old that loved their chicken fingers and berries. My niece ordered the Mac and cheese which was not at all creamy as it looked. I wish I could have given them 5 stars. Great people, beautifully decorated. But the food I felt was way overpriced.

Love this place. I have never been as impressed by a brunch as TBS impressed us today. Wonderful, high-quality food and drink. The waiters and bartender were so great and personable. They accommodated our large group even though it was last minute. When we are back in the area we will be stopping by The Butcher’s Son first!

Went for brunch today. Sad to say it was a train wreck. Got there about 1045. Seated quickly and then waited. and waited… and waited. Finally went to hostess station and ran in to manager. Explained that we needed a waiter. He said he would handle it. We ended up with Steven. Great waiter who apologized profusely for the mix up. We weren’t his table and the manager didn’t send him. he saw us sitting there and came over on his own. He explained the buffet to us and we proceeded to test the fare. Meanwhile the correct waitress came over and explained she apologized for missing us and that she would take care of us… never saw her again. Steven continued to serve and did great. The food was so-so. I know this is a 15 dollar breakfast buffet but there were some serious flaws. The eggs Benedict were DRY and had next to no hollandaise sauce. They were sauced in the back and put on the line but there was hardly anything moist about these. Went back when I saw them putting out«fresh ones» and they were just as dry. The prime rib was very tasty which surprised me considering my previous prime rib experience there. The problem was that the carving station person was also the waffle iron person and the items on the line were not placed in a logical order. People were all over each other. You got your plate, had to bypass the toppings to get a waffle, then go back to get toppings. The carving station was at the end. Bizarre. The omelet station was good and made to order but they only had cheddar cheese which was kept off the line and you couldn’t see it. While my son was getting his omelet the lady in front asked for crab meat in her omelet which they obliged. They sent a person back to get the crab from the kitchen. No signs out saying you could get seafood, no old bay on the line, no cheese in support of a seafood omelet. Guess you had to know the secret menu. They did have a nice chili made up and it was very good. Nice touch as we move in to winter. The chili was full of meat and not greasy. Really nice dish. The coffee was excellent but it was difficult to get refills. Seemed like other people were having the same issue as I saw people with empty cups looking around. Our waiter stated they were running out and only had 3 pots. I think that they just don’t have enough breakfast gear for a heavy duty brunch since they are normally a dinner restaurant. Running out of coffee at 1115 during a brunch is pretty inexcusable. I suggest that they set up a coffee bar. They already have stations for the mimosa and Bloody Mary, why not just big urns with regular and decaf. Make it easy on everyone. You could have it all set out with hot water, tea, creamer, etc. We tried the pastry bar which is really hidden away and not visible by anyone in the room. Basically, sam’s club type pastries with some fruit. Seen the same in various hotel lobbies on travel. Finally, got the check and the pen they give me was out of ink! Just a coincidence I know but really seemed to reflect on the whole meal. Looked at the check and noticed that they took nothing off for even though we had to go get a waiter. Okay, not the end of the world but it really would have been appropriate for the same manger I spoke to initially to stop by and see how things were going. However, he didn’t. He was too busy working the waffle irons, busing tables, along with the hostess. who left the front door for extended periods of time. They really need to figure our the staff training plan and ensure they have enough staff and equipment to do the job. The bright shining star was the waiter Steven. He did a great job with a bad situation. Super friendly and positive. One last thing… the manger should have really come over to the table where the baby was splashed with ice water when one waiter ran into another and she spilled the water everywhere. However, once again, he did not. To busy refilling the bacon station. HIREMORESTAFF!

People of Hampton Roads, run, do not walk to TBS. As a resident of Chicks Beach, I have the pleasure and joy of living within steps of HK on the Bay,(see my review for reasons why you should love HK), so when I heard they were opening up a sister restaurant based on their hugely popular Thursday night steak night, I was ecstatic to say the least. So I waited, and waited, and waited, until last week! The ambiance and atmosphere that is given off when you walk in is sexy and dark. I’m calling it Sinatra meets Speakeasy, if that makes any sense. We had a table reserved for us and started with some amazing cocktails from Robert(who came from HK). He even did me a solid and made blue cheese stuffed olives for my dirty martini. Appetizers we ordered were the flatbread, oysters rockafeller, and onion rings. A couple of options for those of all tastes, as I do not discriminate when it comes to food, I tried them all. I have to say the flatbread was my favorite. Since this is a steakhouse, I had to go with a steak. I did the 11 oz sirloin with blue cheese sauce on the side. I also ordered the loaded baked potato and the broccolini. My steak was cooked to a delish med rare and my potato came out hot(not cold like other«reviews» said). I probably should have gone with the smaller steak, but sometimes you just get too excited and over order. Needless to say, I had leftovers for lunch. We moved on to dessert. A few of us ordered different desserts to try, and everyone got a bite. We ordered the cheesecake, chocolate cake, crème brûlée, and milk and cookies. Though I’m a huge chocolate cake fan, I have to say the milk and cookies won me over. We actually subbed the milk for ice cream and it was like Christmas in your mouth. I don’t even love oatmeal cookies that much, but I dunno what secret ingredient was in these but they were amazing. Overall, this is a phenomenal steakhouse. It’s not quite Ruth Chris level, but def higher end than an Outback, if that makes sense. It’s a nice place to take your lady/man without dropping a ton of cash but having that sexy atmosphere and great food. If you know me, I don’t leave the bubble(Chicks) too often, but I def do not regret this trip out, and look forward to my next visit. Brian knocked this one out of the park. Kudos!
