I love their local seafood and great attention to good cuisine. Good portions. And always get a extra order of hush puppies! A jewel in Great Bridge. The market is where we always get our seafood as well.

For the prices of food in the restaurant, the food isn’t that great. Mediocre and bland. I’m from Louisiana and our seafood seasoning is ALWAYS on point. To say we’re surrounded by water where seafood is so abundant, one would think that people here would be masters at cooking seafood. I guess not. I guess I’ll just cook my seafood at home.

glad we found this gem in Chesapeake, been twice in the past month… seafood and steak options were both amazing. Good live music and service was on point. We will be back.

When I go to a place that sells hushpuppies, that’s the first item I try. By doing so this will decide if I stay or leave… The hushpuppies here… LOVELOVE!!! The sweet taste with a little bit of crunchy and it melts in your mouth!!! Yummmmmmmmmmmmmm… OFFTHEHOOK!!! This visit was super enjoyable. My family visited on a Friday night about 7:30 pm. There was no wait in line and about 10 other parties were already feasting. The restaurant was pretty much not hard to find, even though, I did have a little trouble following my GPS. Nevertheless, we arrived without any huge worries. Our waitress was attentive and on point throughout our visit. I did notice some employees(managers and chefs it seemed) hanging around the dining area, not sure why, but this presence made me feel like they wanted to know how the patrons were enjoying their dining experience. The atmosphere was super cool! It did not smell fishy or horrible. I actually didn’t smell anything, there was a neutral smell — whatever that is right. A few pieces of fish and other seafood was out in the open on ice near the bar area, but it didn’t smell or anything, so don’t let that turn you off. Onto the meal: I had the salmon dish, my babe had the crab cakes and my baby girl had the chicken fingers and fries. We were all pleased with our selections. Everything was fresh and the food didn’t take any significant time to prepare. I’d say in 15 minutes our meals reached the table. I did have a Mai Tai it was just ok. I will not be ordering that again. The parking wasn’t an issue. However, the parking lot is shared with several other business in the marketplace. So perhaps parking could be a hassle. But on a rainy, snowy night there was no issues at all. On this visit, I experienced over the top customer service experience. My baby wanted some honey mustard sauce for her chicken fingers, but was advised by the chef or another waiter not sure of his position, but he said«let me see if I can make some for you» Make some??? my baby said. Well ok. Minutes later the guy returns and says, here try this. Well she tried it and loved it!!! How awesome is this. His response wasn’t we don’t have any, but let me make some for you. I thought this was super worthy of mentioning and talk about an ahhhhhhhhmazing over the top customer service experience — OFFTHEHOOK!!! I’m looking forward to returning to try something different. I highly recommend you visit soon. Have fun :)

We decided to try something new, and we’re not disappointed. My husband ordered the swordfish and it was cooked to perfection. I ordered the chicken in white wine sauce. The risotto that came with it was amazing. We will definitely return.

I have nothing bad to say about anything we tried. Salmon with crab meat– delicious, rib eye– melts in your mouth. Scallops like butter. Garlic potatoes and veggies just perfect. I wanna try everything. Late on a Sunday night and they were so busy, they ran out of 2 of the 3 nightly specials. Highly recommend.

We came in on a Friday night… probably at their busiest time, 30 – 45 min wait. Got seated ordered drinks and apps. 6 seaside on the half, clams casino… gotta let those clams purge a little, a bit Sandy. had an order of mussel and the scallops. scallops were big and cooked perfectly and the mussel app could feed a table of 4!!! Overall, a good night. Will try it again later

We were passing through the area and craving seafood. So glad we found Off the Hook! We scarfed down fried oysters and garlic fries — paired with a delicious remoulade and dirty ketchup. Nice atmosphere too — classy casual with nautical themes. If we lived closer to the area, this would definitely be a regular lunch spot.

Went for lunch with the Unilocal deal. Great service. Ordered She Crab soup, Shrimp Po-boy and Crabcake sandwich. Soup was pricey but good with lots of crabmeat. Crab cake sandwich was very tasty and home-made. Shrimp Po-boy could’ve used a little more seasoning. The garlic fries were a hit. We’ll definitely be back. Nice to see that Chesapeake finally has a good seafood restaurant.

Fresh seafood prepared the way it should be. The sesame crusted ahi tuna was perfectly cooked with warm crusty edges but rare and tender in the middle, served with a delicious sweet soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. The mussels were truly off the hook! Fresh, tender and in a white wine and garlic sauce that complemented the flavor of mussels rather than over powering it. Other highlights were the sweet hush puppies, buttery broccolini, and easy-going-down sweet tea. Love the full bar and seafood market next door, too. Our waitress Rebecca was so attentive and pleasant, refueling us with sweet tea what seemed like every few minutes.

I took my 11 year old here for dinner. We were greeted and seated very quickly. Our server was attentive throughout the dining experience. He has the cheese burger and garlic fries. Both very good. I had the crab stuffed salmon with red mashed potatoes and broccolini. Also very good. Both were large portions. Definitely will be back!

We stopped here for lunch after a quick Unilocal search for decent places to eat on our way to OBX. The overall reviews did not disappoint. We had crab dip, a fresh fish sandwich, a cup of she-crab soup, and the crab cake sandwich. The ambiance was inviting and clean, our server was prompt, attentive, & jovial, and the food was absolutely delectable. Definitely worth stopping in. They have a shop at the entryway, too, where you can purchase a variety of things including fresh seafood items to prepare/enjoy at home and your receipt from the restaurant includes a percentage off from the shop.

First time at Off the hook, and won’t be my last. Super friendly staff — Paul rocked it as our server, great sense of humor and personality! Very clean and comfortable, music was great. Ordered clams casino, not your traditional Italian style, none the less, very good, and mussels. Huge portion, very delicious, brought us back to mussels we used to eat in Naples Italy. Clam chowder — delicious, definitely homemade. Can’t wait to try more on the menu!

This place is pretty legit! It is in a quite busy shopping center with like 4 other restaurants in the same area. What is cool about this place is that you can buy fresh seafood to take home. In fact, if you dine in, bring up your receipt to the counter and you can get a discount on their fresh market. We stayed at the bar to eat, which we normally dont do, but Paul was taking such great care of us, we stayed. We had she crab soup, the oysters, and on another day, calamari to start with. Everything tasted great! Would definitely recommend to anyone. :)

I had high expectations for this restaurant based on the reviews. And to be fair, it was a good visit… but the devil was in the details. I ordered the buffalo fried oysters as an appetizer. If it had come before I had placed my order, it would have been the only thing I ate. I would have ordered another serving and been perfectly satisfied. At $ 10 for half a dozen, it was priced appropriately. My entrée was the fried oyster dinner. The sides were broccolini and I choose asparagus instead of fingerling potatoes. Here’s where the details come in. The fried oysters were served on top of the veggies(excellent) however there was a lot of water from the steamed/boiled veggies on the late so the breading got really mushy. It could have been plated better in my opinion. The veggies were delicious as were the oysters and the $ 18.00 was right in line with other seafood restaurants. My husband ordered the crab stuffed flounder. He was underwhelmed with the portion size and the actual size of the flounder fillet used. For the steep price of$ 26.00(or $ 24) for what he got he was very disappointed. I understand the cost of crab meat, but really. We’ve been to other places(Harpoon Larry’s Newport News) that have the exact entrée, but in an actual adult dinner portion, for less. I notice the other reviews remarking on the high prices here and I have to agree. I have no problem paying for good food, I’m not a cheapskate. However, value is important to everyone. I enjoy seafood and one pays for quality, but this entrée is over priced for the size. We both ordered the key lime pie dessert, which was delicious. Will I return? Maybe, if I can convince my husband to come back, but it’s an uphill battle since he felt after dropping $ 90+ he shouldn’t still be hungry.

The mussels are good. Everything type of seafood was made worse with the topping. Rock oyster was baked with too much cheese and bacon. If you like not tasting seafood or quality come here.

The waitress was very nice. The food tasted good, just small portions for the price. I think the entres should come with a salad choice. We had dessert to go & it tasted pretty good however it took 15 minutes to get it and the waitress said that was because the cook had to cut the cake! The hush puppies were excellent and not greasy!

My mother and I dined here yesterday for one of our Mommy/Daughter dates. The atmosphere was better than expected! It is a nice little intimate spot with dim lighting. A great place for a date night with your special someone or just a relaxing night with friends and family. There is a fish market on the opposite side of the restuarant, but we couldn’t smell it at all! They have a great drink selection and a tempting bar set up, but I chose night to drink that afternoon. The manager was very polite and cracked a few jokes before showing us to our sit and our waitress was amazing as well, her name was Meagan. Everything we ordered was amazing in taste, as well as the price. Steinhilbers has always been a favorite spot of ours, but the food here in my opinion is tastier, more diverse, and a better price. Portions were very plentiful. We both ordered the She Crab Soup, calamari, and oysters for our appetizers. For our entrees we ordered the seafood platter and the crab stuffed salmon. AMAZINGGGG. I have already planned to come back for Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend aka the Picky Eater. He is not into fancy and complicated menus, but I am sure he will have plenty of options to choose from.

Glad I finally made it here. There was a 20 minute wait so, my cousin and I chose to sit at the bar. Bartender, Paul, knew all of the specials and was able to speak knowledgeably on the menu. We started with the crab dip & a bowl of she crab soup. The she crab soup was very thick & there was a flavor in it I have never tried in a she crab before & I loved it! It didn’t have lumps of crab but, that’s ok. Flavor was on-point and there was crab. Dip was good too! The pita points were made perfect. Not like the bricks I had the night prior at a high-end chain. I digress… My cousin and I both wanted the special, sea bass(entire fish) but, they ran out. So, we went with the ribeye but, they said they ran out of that too. THEN, I ordered the broiled combo dinner. What came was the ribeye with crab cake I ordered. That’s fine. Derrick, one of the owners, came to us and apologized. He was so very laid back, professional & educated us on their products. Kudos! The crowd at the bar was very nice. I actually liked the ambiance and tv’s. For the space, this place works with what it has. I want more…

While visiting my folks in S. E Virginia, I mentioned I wanted to go to a good seafood place open for lunch, and did a search on Unilocal for seafood restaurants in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake. The place with the best overall reviews via Unilocal reviews was«Off the Hook seafood…» I don’t know if I would call«Off the Hook Seafood» so brilliant that it was«Off the Hook!» great, but it was definitely very solid. I ordered a cup of the clam chowder($ 6). It was pretty good, but the cup is small. There are a lot of clams, however the clams were pretty chewy. I think I would skip the clam chowder next time. I ordered the fried clam strip basket($ 12) for my entrée and enjoyed this very much. The clams were breaded and cooked to perfection, and weren’t at all chewy. The garlic fries that came with the meal were excellent also, as was the coleslaw and hush puppies. From what I could tell they make the sauces in-house(cocktail, tartar and remoulade) from scratch. All were great along with the clams. Service was also solid with only a slight miscues. I thought my chowder and my parent’s salads came out a bit too slow(~15 minutes), and the entrees came out a bit too fast afterwards before we could finish the soups and salads. Also, I was brought sweet tea once when I was drinking un-sweet tea. These are small flaws though. Over-all the service was professional and on-point. I would recommend«Off the Hook Seafood Market & Raw bar» for a casual, classy and fresh seafood option in the Tidewater, Va. area. The prices aren’t the cheapest, but it is good quality seafood cooked to perfection which ain’t always easy to find.
