Maybe this Hospital is great with babies being born or is someone has a toe nail to be clipped, but surgery wise They suck big time. No bed side matters.

A long wait in the ER, redundancy in the intake, the nurse took 40 minutes to do history, I am not happy with this visit. So thankful I haven’t had to come to this ER often.

This was the worst ER room visit I have ever had. I got sent back right away but then left in the room for over an hour. In severe pain. When asked for help to manage pain, the nurse took over an hour to come in. Nothing was done the whole time. Pain management should be the first thing they help with in non emergency situations

Thank goodness I don’t have much experience with emergency rooms, but I must say that even though I was in a bunch of pain the staff here was exceptional! I literally had no wait time to be seen, checked in or treated. I was in and out in about 2 hours.
Ann the ER nurse with 40 years experience was very kind and professional and I appreciate her patience with me. If I have an emergency again or need to be seen late at night I would recommend Chesapeake General!

This hospital is run exceptionally well. The welcome desk, the adminissions staff, and lab and the Radiology departments provided excellent customer service. I arrived at the time they gave me and everyone was ready and eager to help me through the process.
Everyone who checked in with me felt the same way. We wee smiling in a hospital. YASSS! It was amazing. I was moved from place to place with such efficiency that I never had a chance to read or watch the television.
The hospital and the grounds were super clean. They have a Starbucks, a gift shop with great snacks, cute clothes and nice jewelry. I was loving this adventure. Smikes everywhere.
The admitting staff are so freakishly efficient you feel like you sit down and before you get a chance to enjoy the extra wide comfy chair they say thank you and you are off to your destination. Whee!
The lab is so well organized and each little room contains a large cushioned chair you can lay back and relax in if it was not done so quickly. Again Smiles and a few jokes during that stop.
On to the comfortable waiting room with the TV reception I want at home. There is a volunteer who checks magazines to ensure they are not too old. Say what! Yes Chesapeake General is serious about providing comfort. I started reading a magazine but the nurse came to get me as soon as I started. I am too cheap to get this magazine at home. Oh well!
The service I received from Diane and then Dr. Lewis in Radiology made me feel like I was talking to family at Starbucks. The Radiology Department is amazing. I did not realize until everything was over that Dr. Lewis was the Department Head. His wonderful attitude and great demeanor runs through his department. I felt so safe and cared for. Thanks Dr. Lewis and Diane.
The whole experience was comforting. I watched the Gerentology Nurse at her job. I would bring my Mother here if she ever needed hospital care. The nurse had a beautiful caring soul that she demonstrated to her patients and fellow staff.
Go to Chesapeake General if you need hospital care. Amazing!

Only one star for the awesome ER team and the pre op team. However, the post op and recovery SUCKS! Got an appendectomy and I was in Severe pain. When I was wheeld into my recovery room… Tell me WHY in all hell it took them an hour and a half to get me something for my excruciating pain? Oh and ANOTHER thing. Dirty bathrooms. While trying to urinate, with all my iv equipment tangled around me, I managed to step in a MASSIVE puddle of cold urine on the floor IN MY SOCKS! can we say gross and unsanitary…
Then trying to get my belongings with my purse took over an hour to get to me. Unprofessional and some of the staff is damn rude. Especially when they are right during the shift change. All they care about is leaving without even giving the patient the care that the need and deserve… But I will say there have been one amazing night shift worker who really is there for me and her main goal is to make sure I’m comfortable and satisfied. Which is a shame. It only takes a handful of bad apples to ruin you experience. Bottom line: I WILL NEVER BE RETURNING TO THIS PLACE AGAIN!

This review is for The Birth Place, not the hospital itself. I had my first child here and when I went on the hospital tour a few weeks before my delivery I was a little worried about the process and size of the rooms. The rooms are anything but new and fresh, they are outdated and small (compared to a place like Sentara Princess Anne). However, once I was there I could have cared less how the rooms looked and how big they were because I was having a baby and that’s all that mattered. Every single nurse that worked with me was great! I went in on a Monday night to begin the induction process and didn’t deliver until the following evening. During my labor I had 3 different nurses assigned to me and each was friendly, helpful, and ready for everything I needed and asked for. They kept my doctor informed and when it was necessary to consult directly with him, he was there for me when I needed to make big decisions. I’ll spare all the details about the labor process, but I ended up needing a c-​section and my nurse was phenomenal and so supportive. Once I was transferred to the recovery room and then into the mother-​baby unit I ended up with the best nurse EVER! Her name is CJ and she was with me during the days (her 12 hour shift) and she was the sweetest most caring more helpful nurse I’ve ever met. She worked with me on questions and concerns I had. She was never bothered by my calls and requests and you could tell she really loves her job. My doctor kept saying that it’s not the facility’s accommodations that matter but how the staff and nurses treat you, and he was right!
My only complaint about the hospital is the food. It was bland, boring, and unappealing. I mean, it’s hospital food I know, but you would think they would try a little harder considering they are feeding people, not trying to starve them. No wonder so many people had family members bringing them food from the outside. I ate the food the hospital gave me because I was paying for it anyways.
Overall, if your OB delivers at this hospital then you will not be disappointed in the service you get from the staff and nurses here!

My daughter hit her lip playing chase in the house with my youngest daughter. I argued with my husband that we should take her to Portsmouth Naval Hospital. But noooooo, he wanted to take her here. I KNEW the wait time would be long. And mark my words, we got here at about 6pm. It is now 8:35pm. They gave her numbing medicine and it was supposed to sit on her lip for 15 minutes. 35 minutes have past since then. If this were Portsmouth, we’d be on our way home by now. The doctor said all she needed was two stitches. This is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! The doctors and nurses were friendly but the wait time isn’t even worth it! I’d rather drive an extra 15 – 20 minutes to Portsmouth than to just sit here this long for two stitches. I’m NEVER coming here again.

The star is for the nice doctor I saw in the ER & the fast service there. The remaining 0 stars are for the fact that I’m 32 weeks pregnant with twins & was moved from ER to OB unit upstairs to be evaluated further with the proper equipment. Unfortunately, I had to wait 4 hours just to sign myself out and go get seen at my usual hospital (Portsmouth Naval) because there was only ONE doctor for the entire floor and he was in the OR the whole day. I can only imagine how many other pregnant patients had to wait today and that’s pretty ridiculous.
The sad part is that the nurse kept trying to tell me (scare me) to stay and see the doctor, but she couldn’t reach him on a page or call, and she didn’t know how much longer I’d have to wait to see him. So all in all, Chesapeake Regional gets a check for my time and use of a room that a doctor NEVER came into. I went to Portsmouth and was evaluated & treated immediately. I was seen by pleasant staff and doctors, not people that acted like they didn’t want to be there. Chesapeake nursing staff needs a lesson in customer service. It won’t kill you to smile or be nice to your patients.
I don’t care how bad off I am, I will NEVER go back to Chesapeake Regional. If they can’t take care of pregnant women on the OB floor (I’m not referring to Mother/​Baby unit) then I don’t trust them with anything else!!!

I must say the staff here is awesome !!! From the nurses to the doc. But I do have to admit people don’t give our nurses enough credit for what they do. Wow everything that they do. Unilocal please welcome my grandson Zachery born at 2:48 weighing 8.11 lbs

I recently had to go visit someone in the ER. Amazing front desk staff. They were so helpful and kind! They went above and beyond.

I recently gave birth to my 2^nd child here so this review will strictly be about the OB dept/​Labor & Delivery unit. I had my first child at Obici and the experience there to here was like night and day. Much to my chagrin, I ended up going in to get induced (again) and was very apprehensive about it since I had such a horrible experience getting induced the first time around. I was all ready to brief my nurses on shift about my concerns (don’t give me any sedatives like Stadol, have the anesthesiologist on hand ASAP for the epidural, get my dr on the phone to break my water, etc) but Marissa, the nurse on shift who helped deliver my baby, was on top of everything from the very beginning. Not only was she always one step ahead and anticipating my every need, she had a very relaxed, friendly and calming energy about her, which created for an overall relaxed and stable birth. She checked me whenever I wanted. She increased my pit whenever I wanted. She let me get my epidural whenever I wanted. She let me take off all the annoying monitors and beeps off my body when they started getting really annoying. And she had my doctor on the phone in minutes and heading over when I said I wanted to push. She maintained communications with my husband and I the entire time (which was all of 5 hours from start to finish) and she kept us posted on everything that was happening/​the plan. She was definitley the superstar that day and it is excellent nurses like her that love her job and need to be more prevalent in the medical community. The anesthesiologist was there in under 15 minutes. Done and done. He was efficient and friendly, no bullshit and ready to go. I was literally watching a movie up until I was 10 cm, laughing and carrying on and then we decided it might be a good time to start pushing. I don’t want to say it was an easy childbirth, but it was pretty close to as comfortable as one could be while pushing a human out of themselves. A+ to labor and delivery from start to finish.
Once in the recovery room on the 4^th floor, all the nurses were, again, very efficient, professional, and on their shit. There was no waking you up in the middle of the night to force you to change rooms. They were very respectful of your wishes, whether you wanted the baby in your room or the nursery and they allowed you to get the sleep you needed. Everyone was very prompt during the checkout process, no belaboring or waiting around for some random outprocessing specialist, everyone showed up when we asked them to and quickly left. Another shoutout to Carla the lactation specialist who was educational without being a crazy la leche nazi about breastfeeding and coming back when I needed her help.
Onto the food! I mean it’s the hospital people. Most of the time my hubby would run and get me breakfast or dinner; the selection was always somewhat lacking. BUT I will say, anyone who knows me knows I am always looking for an a la carte cinnamon roll on menus and I was pleasantly surprised to find this on the hospital menu! So the lone picture I am posting in this review is of my delicious cinnamon roll I had on my last breakfast at the hospital.
Overall, our experience at Chesapeake General was fantastic. I had heard great things about their OB dept for years and am so glad I changed my OB doctor just so I could deliver here; it made all the difference in the world from the hell of my experience at Obici hospital. Great nurses, well-​trained staff, and efficient doctors!

Radical service while in ER and in observation over night. They are making a difference. The staff in all areas were pleasant and professional and told me what was going to happen and when. and in some cases why I could not drink or eat. The guest service training is obvious

So I finally found myself in a rotation here in Chesapeake. I’ve been in HR for, what, 5 years now and this is the first time I really got to see Chesapeake! Anyways, when you first come to this hospital, you’ll realize that it’s no Sentara Norfolk General. It’s a much smaller hospital, but certainly fully equipped. Not nearly as busy, although you’ll find that the parking lot is often full starting at 9am and spots don’t open up until the end of the day. When I was working in the ICU and on the floors, they had plenty of beds open so they have the capacity for more patients, but for whatever reason aren’t getting that patient load. The doctors and nurses are great to work with and everyone is extremely knowledgeable about their specialties. Chesapeake Gen needs to step up their marketing before Sentara takes over everything!
