Must be under new management. All bright lights. But food worse. Shrimp way over cooked. Fish greesey. Oil not hot enough. This was our go to spot for fish etc. May give them one morevtry. But very disappointing this trip.

First off – very good and friendly service. But, the food this time was pretty bad. We’ve eaten here and at other Captain D’s, but have never had a meal this bad at any. We both ordered fish, shrimp and 2 sides. The sides were OK, but the shrimp was dry and way overcooked and the fish was greasy, on the mushy side, lacked firmness, and was pretty tasteless. We should have returned our meals but ate them anyway – and left. I was going to leave a tip for our server, a really nice gal, but opted not to. All in all we were disappointed. And we don’t think we’ll be coming back.

This place has HORRIBLE customer service. I placed my order and instead of Cole slaw I asked for Mac n cheese. Cashier verified it. Got my meal. Looked in the bag and sure enough there’s Cole slaw. Pulled back around and she says she did not hear me say Mac n cheese. Anyway Took about 5 minutes to get a tiny container of the Mac n cheese. While waiting I noticed the cashiers and other workers walking around with handfuls of fish and chicken eating away. Very very very uncouth! I at that very instant wanted to return the entire meal and should have. There are many more things I could say, but I’ll just leave it there.

It pains me to give this location a bad rating because I LOVE captain Ds. I prefer them over Long John Silvers and this was a staple of mine growing up as a kid when we wanted some quick but cheap seafood for dinner. First of all, don’t expect it to be fast food. I’m not sure why they have a drive through because every order takes such a long time to complete even if it is something small. It’s probably best to dine in or if you’re not in a huge rush to get your food. The reason for the 2 stars at this location is that everytime I go, the customer service is just not that great. The workers are short with you, and definitely sound like they just don’t want to be there. Never have I seen a smile or any hint of anyone actually enjoying their job. I might be willing to tolerate this if the food was still good, but our most recent order of the white fish and shrimp was absolutely horrible. We’ve had it before and it was good, but this time everything was just bland. It’s as if there was no flavor at all. Long wait time, poor customer service, and bad food just makes this a place I won’t be coming too often or at all.

Captain D’s was always my family’s go-to spot when we were craving seafood but didn’t want to drive all the way out to the beach. Plus, you can’t beat the price! It’s usually never too busy when I go to Captain D’s. They usually have good specials too. On this particular visit, I ordered the fried fish and shrimp special with fried okra and mac and cheese. It also came with their signature hush puppies. I also ordered a side of fried tomatoes. It usually takes a little bit for them to cook the food, so they gave us our drinks and we sat down and waited for them to bring us our food. I forgot how big their portions are, and I definitely struggled to finish my food! I liked how they brought us cocktail and tartar sauce with our food so we didn’t have to wait. Both my fish and shrimp were fried perfectly, and I really like the batter that they use. The mac and cheese was creamy, just how I like it. The fried okra and fried tomatoes were good as well. I usually don’t like eating too much fried food at one time, but I had to make an exception for this place. I always have a good experience at Captain D’s, and will probably be back in the future!

I love Captain D’s. It’s better, in my opinion, than Long John Silvers. I know they are up in Ohio but they’re rare. Here in Virginia they are far more common. I decided to go get lunch at one by my hotel. I arrived in the restaurant and saw it was not very busy. I was able to just walk right up to the counter. I ordered the fish and chicken meal after confirming with the friendly young cashier how many pieces of each it had in it(2 each). I then added on an order of shrimp. After a few minutes wait my food arrived. The cashier asked what sauces I wanted and I was on my way. They were pretty friendly here, nothing extraordinary but I was satisfied. I got back to the hotel and the food was still hot. It was excellent battered food. They have just the right amount of coating of batter on their fish. I would have liked more chips but it’s my fault for not asking I believe. The shrimp was really good, most pieces were above average and I felt it’s a great value of a 6 piece for $ 2.98. i was a little disappointed with the chicken. It just doesn’t taste near as good as Long John Silver. I think next time I will just get all-fish and shrimp and skip the chicken. The hush puppies were excellent and the slaw was mostly just like Long John Silvers, although it looks like it has slightly less carrots in it than LJS. The fries were also quite good, good enough to eat without any ketchup in fact, but they didn’t give me very many for some reason. I don’t eat a lot of battered food as I am watching my cholesterol but Captain D’s does have unbattered fish. When I want fish, want it in a hurry and don’t want to pay a lot I know where to go: Captain D’s.
