Great little deli and place to grab a quick bite to eat. It is very dated in there, however their food is very consistent and very good. Their staff is nice. Tip: ask for your toast buttered in the back so it melts. It is my biggest peeve!

The atmosphere isn’t much to speak of but the Nova Lox on an everything bagel was AMAZING! Totally worth it.

I’ve been going to Herman’s since I was a little girl, and they’ve never disappointed. Their rye breads and cold cuts are fresh, their pickles are delightful, and don’t get me started on their spicy brown(deli) mustard. Yum. My favorites are the corned beef(which you can ask to be trimmed so that it is lean) and the chopped liver. So good it should be illegal.

Feeling a bit under the weather, my husband and I turned to Herman’s Deli and some matzah ball soup for some support. Our order consisted of two orders of soup, rye, pastrami, corned beef and a side of pickles. The rye bread and to-go packaging were probably the best part of the entire order. The pickles tasted like they were sodium free and totally lacked flavor. The noodles in the matzah ball soup were brownish and something in the soup tasted off. The meat didn’t seem too fresh and also tasted off. At least the bread seemed fresh. Some a-hole cut my husband off on his way home with our food, and when the whole order went flying to the floor, at least it stayed in-tact. The extra star goes to dinner making it home in one piece. We went to Herman’s out of convenience but will go the extra mile next time for some better deli food.

Their lunch box special is a really good deal. $ 5.50 for a sandwich, comes with cole slaw, chips, pickle, and fountain drink. They’re fast and also have chips and find of sodas if you’re just running in there for a snack. I’ve never sat down in the restaurant but I see people in there.

This place is a dump. It is not clean and the food is nearly inedible. I don’t know how they stay in business.

I haven’t had sit down here, I’ve only done take out. But I love this place. The guy who runs the deli is really friendly. The matzoh ball soup was delicious. I also had a chicken salad sandwich that was substantial. It isn’t fancy like Short Hills diner but I like that about it. Good value. And a true neighborhood feel. I am looking forward to my next visit!

I’ve eaten here a couple of times and have done take-out a couple of times and have always been satisfied with service, food and price. I’m fairly new to the area and have realized that this place was probably once in the center of the Jewish community(the main deli-eating customer base) but now that community has shifted towards the east. Places such as Kibitz room and Short Hills deli are now more centrally located for their target market, and a bit more upscale, which has likely had an impact on Herman’s business. Kind of sad, because they are serving a good product and they are quite old school and stick to the traditional items which make a deli so comforting. It is a better value than Kibitz or Short Hills(both excellent places), so if you want to save a few shekels, head west and give Herman’s a try!

For me reviewing delis have always been pretty difficult for me as I am NYC boy and places outside of NYC don’t compare to Katz, Second Street Deli, or even Harold’s in Edison. Not bad, I can see myself eating here again. It doesn’t have the flare of the Kibitz Room or Short Hills, but it is easier on the pockets. I can not make a real sound decision on this place just yet as I have not had the true Jewish Deli goods e.g. corned beef or pastrami. The pancakes were ok, and my wife’s B.L.T was also ok.

Old-school Jewish deli & diner. Stopped here on a whim(I passed the Panera Bread exit) & it was decent. Service wasn’t good though — the waitress was either having a bad day or was in the weeds. She didn’t smile, didn’t have time to answer questions, & took a while to come back to take our orders then some more time with our orders/drinks. I got the spinach pie & side salad. Standard salad of iceberg lettuce, tomatoes that aren’t fresh &(maybe) red onion. Oil & vinegar dressing on the side to keep it simple. Huge serving of spinach pie — lots of spinach & feta crammed between sheets of phyllo dough. Enough for a big appetite or halve it with a friend. The egg cream was disappointing. You could tell the chocolate sauce was very imitation brand & it wasn’t very«fizzy» so the seltzer wasn’t too strong. Oh well, I drank it anyway. One side is the restaurant & the other the deli to get stuff to-go. If you’re in a hurry, go w/the deli but if you can spare to sit down for 1 hr & watch those around you, then restaurant side isn’t so bad.

If I could do 3.5, I would. I went here yesterday for lunch. It was a good experience. The menu selection is huge and everything looked awesome. I have to agree that it is a little pricey for what you get. However, the quality of the food is delicious. I ordered a reuben and had potato pancakes as a side. The potato pancakes were divine. Our waitress didn’t seem exactly thrilled to be there and could have been a bit more upbeat. Not a bad place if you’re in the area but not a «go out of your way» kind of place.

Herman’s Won’t Honor Their Own Coupons I «purchased» a coupon to Herman’s Deli through my points from Recycle Bank. The coupon was for the Deli only. No problem. Upon entering the store, I went to left, toward the deil rather than the right for the restaurant. There, I ordered several deli sandwiches for my entire family. When I went to the register to pay, the cashier said that sandwiches were considered«restaurant take-out» not«deli» despite being ordered on the deli side of Herman’s. I spent a significant amount, but they couldn’t honor a tiny $ 2 coupon? Talk about cheap! I won’t EVER go back despite how conveniently located they are for me

Good eggs, home fries, and chicken caesar salad. The croutons on the salad are very good. Good caesar dressing. Matzoh ball soup is good too. Friendly neighborhood service. The waitresses have been there for years. Good place for breakfast and lunch. The atmosphere is typical deli. They have comfortable booths which is nice. Never a wait, even on Sunday morning. The deli sandwiches are pretty good. Their whitefish salad is good too. Portions are a little small for the price. No free pickle tray, like they have at Short Hills Deli. Very generous with their catered platters, if you’re having an event or party at home. Not kosher, but kosher style. Plenty of free parking. It’s a neighborhood deli that’s been around for many many years, and has it’s regular customers. It’s a decent choice for breakfast or lunch, but nothing spectacular.
