I LOVE this hidden nook on James Island, and I’m glad they’re there! Delivery is free(for for a minimum $ 10 purchase) for James Island and FOLLYBEACH. We ordered online, got an estimate time for delivery in email, which was quite a surprise. They were 10 minutes early! Staff is always genuine. We love their pizza joint variety and adore their homey dine-in experience with craft beer options. Check out their daily specials. If you live on James Island, be sure to like them on fb, to help you remember to take advantage of them. Personally; a big fan of the Spicy Meatball pizza.

Everything I’ve tried here is great(pizza, burger, salads, etc.) … except for when I asked for cheese fries. It’s not on the menu, but I had the biggest craving for ooey gooey cheddar cheese fries. Instead, I was given fries w/either shredded mozzarella or a slice of mozzarella cheese just placed on top, melted by the fries. So by the time I ate it, the cheese had already solidified on the fries… not what I was looking for :(But then again, that’s probably why it’s not on the menu.

I have eaten at this location since I was a kid. It has always been known for the pizza under each name and owner change. Has ALWAYS been and still is GREAT brick oven PIZZA. Salads have always been good but now they are even better. Also, now, you can add… of all things at a pizzeria… fantastic, like your mamma pattied them up… BURGERS. Unfortunately, nothing else on the menu seems to good anymore. The old sub rolls from that local bakery that was used for the subs and garlic bread were so much better than now. The sandwiches and pasta dishes have changed for the worse I feel like. And lastly and most sad, the service is not good anymore. Drivers and Cooks seem to be with it still but the waitresses are not, shall I say… «present.»

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. My name is Chelsee. My husband I work long hours and live only a couple of blocks away from The Hideaway. Everytime we order delivery we are never disappointed! Best pizza and great fresh salads! Spaghetti with meatballs is always our favorite! They have an incredibly friendly staff and we will continue to spread the word! James Island needs more great delivery restaurants like The Hideaway! Please don’t review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you’re connected in any way to the owner or employees.

I’m not sure what happened here… up until about 6 months ago I would have given it three or four stars. The last three times I have been my fairly basic order has been incorrect and there was a new server every time. My order was keyed in correctly at least the last time, but prepared wrong. I know the owner cares a lot and does a great job himself, so I hope it improves soon.

I just had a pick up small pizza but upon entering the establishment for the first time I wished I was dining in. The sounds of the old video games and the smells of the kitchen were very inviting. The atmosphere was cool and laid back perfect James island style. The cashier was sweet and helpful. I had a simple cheese pizza but the menu board was full of exciting selections like a taco dog. The sauce on the cheese pizza was sweet which is how I like it.

Came in here to specifically take advantage of a Belly app special. This place is cute and clean. It had music playing in the background. The phones were ringing off the hook and the young lady up front had issues with the register. The daily specials look pretty good and would get me in here if I had lived in this area. I’ll definitely try this place again if I have more time since a free small cheese pizzas and drink took almost 10 minutes before they even started to make it let alone cook it. It was delicious and worth the wait.

Nice craft beer selection; the pizza and the loaded fries are delicious. A nice little spot to pop into while on James Island.

A-Ok indeed… I wouldn’t Hide This Place Away! Above average food and affordable, especially for lunch! Always has a lunch special and always seems to hit the spot on a Friday for lunch. The staff is SUPER nice and really helpful. They are always pointing you in the right direction. I recently had house-special marinated mushrooms on a slice of pie and mmmm mmmmm it was good! Very unique and great flavor! The salad was pretty average, but dressing was quite good! It’s location is great for the Fort Johnson(NOAA/DNR/NIST) and Highschool crowd as well as those who live in the neighborhoods around Harborview and Fort J. Although I have never been for dinner, and would probably lean towards somewhere else for dinner, I will go again for lunch and recommend it to anyone for lunch: It really is a great and affordable option for lunch.

This is one of the(many) times I wish Unilocal allowed different numbers of stars for service and atmosphere vs. food. I visited Hideaway for the first time recently. It’s kind of far from where I live, but they do deliver all over James Island, which is a plus. And even at night, the building is easy to spot from the road because it’s decorated very hippie. Almost like a local Mellow Mushroom on the outside! The inside has a nice dining area and a few games for kids. It’s nothing fancy compared to the outside, but it’s comfortable and will do. The staff was super nice. I want to give them 10 stars for how nice they were. I took my pizza to go but the wait staff was doing a great job paying attention to customers and the guy who rang up my pizza and took my order was super nice and told me a lot about the business. They also have numerous happy hour specials as well as lunch specials, and a pretty big menu. Various pastas, pizzas, wings, salads, and even burgers. I only tried the pizza, and it was not my favorite pizza. I had a small pizza with a few toppings added on. Like others said, the pizza did not have a lot of sauce and I thought for the price of the toppings that it didn’t have many toppings either. I’ve honestly had much better tasting pizza from chain restaurants; this tasted like a frozen pizza and was pretty disappointing. If I return, I would try something else, but the service was good so I’d go back if I’m in the area.

I live on James Island and just recently tried Hideaway based on some great recommendations from several friends. I was not disappointed. I have now been four times in the last six weeks and have really enjoyed everything that I have ordered. Great burgers & fries, also enjoyed the Alfredo pasta with blackened chicken. Staff has been wonderful each time as well! I know that i will be back!

If there was a «no star» option I would pick it. Atmosphere –no star — not a cozy neighborhood pizza joint but more like a cement slab with sparse tables. Random arcade(do people still play arcade games, and if so would you want to listen to them while you eat?). Their version of «bruschetta» consisted of unidentifiable vegetables tossed in balsamic vinaigrette on top of a cold, hard? stale piece of flat bread. Could not eat it. Pizza was so-so. Prices too high given poor quality of food and gas-station atmosphere. Service was friendly but manager? owner rude and talked loudly to a nearby table the entire time so that we had to raise our voices to hear each other over the din.

This place was suggested by a local and is local, so I was rooting for it to do well, but it did not. You can tell from the decoration of this place that the owner’s love it. The outside is painted in technocolors reminiscent of old Broadway plays, while the inside is slightly muted so you don’t need to wear your sunglasses inside. The pricing on the slices is misleading, it is $ 2 for a slice and then extras for every additional topping. The waiter was nice enough to point that out before I picked a slice with a whole bunch of toppings but the small pizza I received was disappointing. The pizza was blackened on one corner, with an exceptionally thin center and as much bread in the crust as in the entire center of the pizza. The sauce itself was one of the better ones I’ve found with good seasonings, but sadly not in large enough amounts to be thoroughly enjoyed. I picked a «Quattro» with 4 difference cheese toppings which were poorly and inadequately distributed across the pizza. Our drinks remained unfilled throughout the meal though the restaurant was nearly empty and the waitress walked past our table multiple times. I like to eat local if all possible, but they need to improve.

My husband and I were visiting Charleston for the first time this past weekend and we stumbled upon Hideaway while driving through James Island. Very welcoming paint job/signage on the exterior with a casual warmth on the inside. They have two rooms to choose from, one with the bar on your right and one with a comfy banquette on the left side. Both rooms have TVs and good optimum viewing from all tables — would be a great spot to chill with friends and watch sports over beer and Italian fare. We ordered the Stamos specialty pie and it was delicious. Really loved the crust and combination of toppings. They have a nice selection of beers on tap and they also have an adorable kids menu, not to mention the small arcade room where your kids can stay entertained while you wait for your food! I heard the desserts were really good, but we didn’t have room. Can’t wait to get back and try more things on the menu. The staff was super-friendly and the chef/owner was even walking around greeting people. I found out they deliver to all of James Island(and plan on telling friends). Man, I wish we had Hideaway in Columbia, S.C.

We recently moved into a house right down the street, and are incredibly grateful to have a neighborhood spot like this so close to us. Everyone who works here is incredibly friendly(especially Amber) and they have a good selection of beers and wines, plus specials and TVs, making it a good place to come and watch a game. We’ve really enjoyed everything we’ve had on the menu or gotten for take-out so far. The salads are really fresh and have plenty of vegetables — a nice alternative to the dressing-soaked three-day old lettuce you usually get at pizza places.(Would highly recommend the roasted tomato vinaigrette). The Corleone is our favorite pizza, though we always take Amber’s suggestion and add jalapenos. All in all, this is a real hidden gem on James Island, and we’ll def. be back many, many times.

I agree with Victoria. I’m not sure if it’s the sauce or the cheese, but the pizza is way too salty and unappealing. We have tried it twice, and of course you should try it for yourself(it’s only pizza), but as a word to the owners, we and I’m sure others won’t be back until you respond saying you are changing the recipe. Paisano’s is a better bet on JI. Also, the interior is an unappealing shell no more inviting than Cibo’s was. I don’t understand the concept of new ownership expanding a restaurant before they even know how successful they will be and offering little more than the previous joint.
