Got fish and fries for lunch. Fantastic. Good bang for the buck too. Will definitely be coming back.

Freshest seafood in Charleston! I often eat here when shopping at the Capitol Market. The fried grouper plate is awesome! As was the fish sandwich made with a croissant, pictured!

Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! The atmosphere was perfect, very casual, the food was phenomenally fresh, hot good seafood. The crabcakes were the best that I have ever had and I am a crab cake snob. I would highly recommend this place.

Looking for a fish sandwich? Skip the chains and head here. The Big Fish is fantastic: deep fried battered whitefish on a big croissant, served with really good fries, all reasonably priced. In addition to the prepared food there’s a decent selection of fresh seafood to take with you to fix at home(decent, not exceptionable — we’re inland and isolated, after all). Service is always fast and friendly. Bottom line, it’s good.

I have grown up on a seafood diet on the New England coast, eating in restaurants in Cape Cod, Newport, and on all of the Connecticut shore line, in fact now I live in Boston. However, I must say that this sandwich is possibly the best Fish sandwich I have ever had in my entire life, even when compared with new England’s Atlantic authentic seafood dishes that I’ve grown up eating. The Big Fish Sandwich served with coleslaw and fries is an elite sandwich that deserves an award for the taste between a halved croissant role: light crispy fried buttery fish with Tatar sauce. I wish I burned enough calories to eat this sandwich for every meal of the day.

As a restaurant: My husband eats fish sandwiches here regularly and he said the lunches are delicious. I’m not a huge fish fan, but their hotdogs are quite good. Prices are super reasonable for the size of what you get. As a market: Bless you older man behind the counter. I don’t know my tuna from my swordfish, and he’s willing to explain to me what’s what, how to fix it, what I might be fond of(I don’t like fish), and he always remembers me! «Hey, Tuna Lady!»(my most common purchase) I have no clue how his prices are compared to other places, but the product is primo!

Had lunch at the seafood co. during our first visit to the market. Had to choose between Soho’s and the seafood booth, but the smell of the fried fish was too hard to resist. The seafood co. sells both raw fish, crawfish, mussels, etc. by the pound as well as big sandwiches, platters, etc. We both got a special platter, the rainbow trout and the catfish. Catfish won out hands down, with a great breading and super moist and delicious. The trout was good, but compared to the catfish it just wasn’t as good. The platters came with fries and hush puppies, along with a little side of slaw. The slaw was good, sweet and creamy(not standard but not super special), the fries were good, and the hush puppies were well seasoned and tasty. If we had any regrets it would have been not getting one of their famous big fish sandwiches on a big croissant instead of the trout — they looked really amazing and you could certainly split one and be fine if you weren’t super hungry(or maybe even if you were). Good lunch!
