Had an awesome late lunch at Butcher & Bee — I arrived around 1PM on a Monday and snagged the last spot in their parking lot. Only a few folks ahead of me in line so got to order quick. I ordered the whole roast beef sandwich and took a seat at the large community table. There is a lot of seating at that table as well as outside and by the windows. It is set in a large warehouse but I can see how it might get crowded at the peak of brunch or lunch time. My sandwich took surprisingly long to come out considering there were only three people who were ahead of me. It was really delicious, every aspect of it(I especially loved the miso mayo, and I am not even a mayo fan normally). My only complaint is that for $ 12 for a sandwich I would have liked if there was a side besides the 3 tiny pickles it was served with. Regardless it was really good and I liked the atmosphere there so I will definitely be back.

If you’re looking for a very overpriced, mediocre sandwich, then this is the place for you! The day I was at Butcher and Bee, they had 3 menu items to choose from. I ordered the Roast Beef, and my friend ordered the double burger. The Roast Beef was cold and definitely not worth the $ 12 I paid(without any sides whatsoever, mind you). I’d give it a 5⁄10. The double burger, however, was awful. It had more salt than about anything I’ve eaten in the past. He ate a few bites and pushed it aside. It did come with fries, however, and those were great! Also, as nice as the environment was, the music was very ill-chosen. In a building full of almost exclusively white people, being with my friend(who isn’t white) and hearing the n-word blaring over the speakers was extremely uncomfortable. Definitely not a place I would recommend bringing kids to.

I love Butcher & Bee, but the prices always seem just a little outrageous(if anything can be described as a little outrageous). Even so, the sandwiches are delicious and they’ve expanded into a lot of other dishes as well. Worth a visit!

2nd time here. Industrial motif, food is very fresh, but not enough of it in my book. Prices a little high for where they are and what they offer. You order, pay, sit, and they bring stuff to you. No problem, but not the best approach. Since saving $$ on waiters and such, maybe lower prices. This is just me. I did go back again, right? Frank G

Will have to give it another try. Cuban sandwich was ok, but I’ve had better. Mother items on the menu looked good

Kind of hidden, but a great stop. I don’t love the a la cart pricing, but that’s not a big deal. It was difficult to get five seats together, but we expected that wherever we went. Check out their FB page to see what’s on the menu that day!

Apologies – my previous review was actually for a different restaurant! We had a great experience here. The food was excellent and the space is real cool. Brunch was a hit. Stumptown coffee can’t disappoint. Crew was nice and service was solid. I’m definitely a fan.

Impressed by the vibe after attending one of their night bazaars, I decided to go here for lunch with a couple of friends. There wasn’t a lot of seating inside, so we braved the slightly biting breeze outside(in the sun, so it wasn’t too bad). The good came out promptly and was delicious overall. The good: sweet potato shwarma, roast beef and black bean chili were absolute hits. The ketchup tasted housemade and the chimichurri on the roast beef sandwich was a revelation. The Brussels sprouts were mostly charred and had a nutty flavor and the fries were crispy and fluffy on the inside. The only drawback? The Brussels sprouts and the fries were very, very salty. If it wasn’t for the wonderful sparkling water they provided, I would not have enjoyed my sides nearly as much, because it was just that heavy-handed. I’ll be back, but they should ease up on the salt.

Awesome turkey sandwich w/roasted tomato, homemade bread. We shared brussels with asian sauce like a pad thai flavor with peanut sauce and basil thai too. Reclaimed décor, steel chairs, metal trays for food and casual atmosphere. Their menu changes every day.

I’ve heard about this place and had to go. We were in the area working as extras on an HBO show and this was a close option. We arrived about three minutes before the lunch horde. We got the big brown and steak and cheese. It was fabulous. The fried hunk of turkey and gravy is hard to describe, but awesome is a good start. Seating is european so don’t expect to get a table to yourself. this is odd for some, but if you expect it then it can be pleasant to meet other people while you wait. I promise you will not talk much during the meal because you’ll be too busy to talk.

WOW — is all I have to say. Butcher & Bee stands apart as one of the best brunch places I’ve ever been to, and I am a tough critic. Everything about our experience was 5 out of 5 stars, top notch. We were spoiled because our friends knew the manager of the restaurant, but that doesn’t take away from how amazing the food was. Even if you don’t read any further, if you’re in the Charleston area, you HAVE to go have brunch at Butcher & Bee. We had a mixture of breakfast and lunch — from the Macmuffin breakfast sandwich, breakfast quiche, and the roast beef sandwich, and pretty much every side on the menu. First of all, they bake all their own bread here, so sandwiches are what they do best. The Macmuffin sandwich was on a very large English muffin that was soft and moist. The egg, pimento cheese, bacon, and sauce on the sandwich were perfectly proportioned. My girlfriend had the roast beef sandwich, which is probably their main dish. She claimed it was the best roast beef sandwich she’s ever had — and I would have to agree. You know when you eat roast beef sometimes and it’s very chewy and gets clumped up in your mouth? This roast beef was so soft and moist it slid down your throat like melted butter. Absolutely amazing. The bread complimented the sandwich perfectly, topped with a chimichurri sauce that was exceptional. The pimento cheese grits were freaking incredible, I couldn’t stop eating them. And the apple cobbler to end the meal left me fat and happy. I can’t say enough about this place — Butcher & Bee really impressed me. Everything was top notch. They have a rotating menu, and from reading some of the other reviews some people have caught this place on a bad day. I wouldn’t let that deter you from eating here — Butcher & Bee should be at the top of the list for brunch places in Charleston.

My first trip to Butcher and Bee and I was a little underwhelmed. There were five sandwich selections to choose from. Rotating menu, I get it, but still. Veggie burger, fish sandwich, roast beef, barbeque squash, and a fancy grilled cheese were my choices. I opted for the barbeque squash, and also crispy potatoes. Service was friendly but slow. I got my food and right off the bat the potatoes were a hit. They had an awesome avocado chimichurri sauce which I liked. Gobble gobble. Then I moved to my sandwich(yes I eat one thing at a time). I was expecting a pulled pork barbeque sandwich garnished with squash. No. Not at all. I was served a squash sandwich. Squash between bread. With grill marks. Silly southern me! It really was delightful as far as «barbeque squash» sandwiches go, if you are a vegan and expecting that sort of thing. The bread was chewy yet crispy, the squash had a really nice firmness about it, not overcooked. It was garnished with pickled cabbage, peach compote, and mustard aioli. But it was SO anti-climactic for a meat and potatoes kinda gal like me. I’m still kinda ill about the situation, a day later. My meal was $ 20(with tea and cookie), which is way overpriced in my opinion for a bun, four slices of squash and a red potato diced… To each their own. A disappointment for me.

Flew into town late and was looking for somewhere to eat and stumbled upon this place… so glad! There is a big party lot so that makes things easier. Once you come in the menu is on the wall, you order at the counter and then take a seat at a communal table. The late night menu had a great bahn mi sandwich, a great grilled cheese with zucchini and the most amazing kale slaw– definitely get the large portion, especially if you’re sharing. The only downside to the sandwiches was that the bread was pretty hard. Also got a chocolate cake with candied walnuts… perfect as it was very moist and not too sweet. They have still and sparking water on tap, different sodas and its BYOB. The place itself is very clean and has a great hipster vibe to it.

Finally made it out to Butcher & Bee after a year! Waiting a long time for this and I was not let down. Burger was really nice(although not the best I’ve had). I also had the chicken Shwarma which was delicious. Best part is they always change the menu and surprise you with something great.

17 bucks for a Cuban sandwich and a mexican coke. Severely overpriced, and I was still hungry, but delicious nonetheless. Not entirely sold on the idea of communal tables and the way they serve you the food. If you go around lunch time when it’s packed, seating can be a bit awkward and, you may find yourself asking people to move to accommodate your group because they’re aren’t any other options as far as seating goes. The service seemed a bit slower than I would have expected. There weren’t a lot of people there when I had ordered, but after sitting for about 10 minutes the line grew out the door. I don’t even want to know how long those people had to wait to get their food… I waited close to 20 minutes(for just one sandwich, no sides). Despite the annoyingly inflated price tag, I’ll likely be back to try out this ever-changing menu.

What a great lunch place! We stopped in around 1:15 on a Monday afternoon and the place was about half full. There were a few tables outside but no umbrellas so not many people were taking advantage as the sun was beaming straight down. The interior is very industrial and rustic-y with several communal tables. You order at the register and then they bring the food to your table. I had the house salad with the wreckfish. It was fantastic. I think the fish really made it better and lucky for me, they sold out of it just a few orders after mine. They initially forgot to add avocado to my bowl, but quickly fixed it when I brought it back up to the counter. My husband had the cuban sandwich with a side of fries. The fries were nice and crispy and served with a great homemade(I think?) ketchup. The sandwich was delicious thanks in part to the sweet pickles. Pricing was reasonable. The restaurant is at the end of a long parking lot though I’m not sure if any of the spots belong to them since we walked.

I saw no bees but plenty of butchers. There may have been honey hiding somewhere, but I’m not sure. Tucked into an unassuming lot on the outskirts of the bustling section of town, with one hell of a mural on the opposite wall, you’d be forgiven for missing it if you weren’t looking very hard. So let’s start with the best, and only, thing I tried: the roast beef sandwich. The day we went, their chalkboard sign wasn’t well written, so it looked like it was $ 9 for the full roast beef. It is in fact $ 11. Still not bad considering what you are getting, but definitely not that fantastic deal I thought it was. At $ 11, it’s an average value. The sandwich itself is fantastic however. Probably the best roast beef I’ve ever had. Not just the meat, which is a little better than most, but the entirety of the sandwich. First off, skip the mayo. It gets in the way of the other flavors. Get it on the side to try it, but you won’t miss it unless you only have a bite of roast beef by itself. Second off, Eat it fresh. The bread loses a lot of its defining characteristics if it’s been sitting for a couple hours. Third off, despite what your taste buds will tell you, chew slowly and thoroughly. This will enable you to really enjoy the whole sandwich, and you will be less sad since it won’t be gone so quickly. And that’s all you need to know to enjoy the best roast beef sandwich of your life, sweet onion jam, chimichurri, and all. If you’re the kind of tourists we are, the ones who like to tour a city through its food, going from one place to another to another, one sandwich is great for two people.

Meeting my friend and her daughter for lunch, she picked B&B so I was excited since I’d never been. It has a huge area for free parking so that’s always exciting to find when heading to a downtown Charleston business. When we walked in, I said«Wow it smells good in here.» The place was packed but we we’re able to get a seat at the front community table quickly enough. We ordered two sandwiches to share and the curried Brussels. Everything was great. Very exciting flavor profiles that I’ve never experienced before. The curried brussels were really good and offered a bunch of different flavors with each bite. I also enjoyed the romesco sauce and combo of cheeses on the cauliflower melt. And the burger. Really really juicy and chessy. Great food aside, I think my favorite part about the visit was it seemed like they had it on the Backspin Sirius radio station b/c we could hear old schools jams including some Biz Markie, Just a Friend, coming from the back of the restaurant! :)

Butcher & Bee is located in an industrial subsection of Charleston where there is nothing around except a line of twenty-somethings stretching out into the parking lot. The décor is interesting — cardboard honeycombs and hanging mummified bees adorn the ceiling. Seating is all communal and grabbed after order. While the Butcher & Bee is known for their sandwiches, I must say their french toast deserves special mention. The toppings vary but generally include some sort of fantastic nut streusel /crumble of your dreams, a fruit(ours was pumpkin) and a generous pour of maple syrup. The whole combination is moist and tender, not too sweet and just delicious. The baked egg and tomato with tahini was pretty light and tasty also. The burger was okay(different kind of meat texture) and didn’t quite live up to our expectations. The sandwiches are probably a better bet if you’re not into brunch(a strange breed you must be).
