Berenice’s Salon

I recently had a more bad than good breakup with my hair stylist, and began the arduous search for a new one. Finding the right person to trust your hair to is almost as tough as finding the person to trust your heart with. Plus, I wanted a place that was close to home, that didn’t use latex gloves in the salon (as I’m allergic to latex), and would be willing to listen to what I wanted, as well as advise what would be good for my hair and face. This time, instead of stopping people on the street, whose haircut suited them, or asking friends, I checked Unilocal,and found Berenice’s Salon. Win!
I was able to get in with Rita, the owner of the salon, pretty quickly. Rita listened to what I liked and didn’t like, and then offered her ideas. My hair is fine, though there is a fair amount of it, plus I have some wave in it that makes it hard to tame sometimes. Precise, symmetrical cuts always look good when I leave the salon, but are major fails for me when I try to do it on my own. Plus, I’m really lousy with using a blow-​dryer, and usually give up in disgust. Rita cut my hair in a way that made me really happy. It’s cleaned up, but still allows the curl to do its thing, and doesn’t demand precision care. Plus, she listened to me when I said I didn’t want to get into the time and expense of coloring or covering my gray. I earned each and every one of those gray strands and treasure them. She is the first stylist who has told me ways to take care of gray hair, to improve the shine etc.
This morning, the morning after the cut, I’m still pleased. I need to give it a few more shampoos, and try drying it myself, rather than air-​dry, but I suspect that I will still be pleased with the result and will probably up my stars from 4 to 5.

Adrienne is the best colorist I have ever had work on my hair. We moved to the area 5 years ago — I spent the first 3 years looking for someone to do my hair right. Although Adrienne has very curly hair with great body, she has found a way to cut my fine, limp hair to have shape. The organic hair color product has made my hair the healthiest it has ever been. The salon has a minimalist, relaxed vibe. The experience is excellent and Adrienne is a treasure!

Adrienne is AMAZING! I hadn’t had my hair cut in over a year, and looked on Unilocal for a good salon. I saw Berenice’s, and when I called Adrienne was able to book me in the next day. I went in with long brown hair, never having my color changed or anything. Adrienne suggested I go an auburn color, with shoulder-​length, and side bangs. I was a bit nervous at first, but very excited. It was SO worth it. She definitely knows what she’s doing! I loved how my hair looked and felt afterward. My husband was so shocked and pleased as well. Everyone at Berenice’s is incredibly talented and friendly, and I’d give them a 100% positive review a thousand times over!

THANK YOU, WORLD, for finally providing Charleston with a stylist that «gets» what I’m looking for. I recently went here to get my hair cut and was hoping to get an appointment with Nicole, who cuts my other friends’ hair, but ended up getting an appointment with Rita.
She was able to take me a little earlier than my appointment time, saving me an additional 15 minutes to finish up the rest of my errands for the day, and was friendly and understanding of what kind of look I wanted. She did a wonderful job and I felt absolutely confident in her.
The salon itself is really clean and tucked away on the second floor of a building on King St, which I liked. I love the huge mirrors and minimalistic approach they had towards décor.
As a whole, this is definitely one of my favorite salons now, and I am excited to come back soon!

Great salon! Nicole is an amazing stylist — she really listens to what I want and I have never been disappointed with the outcome — cut or color. With the location on King Street, parking can sometimes be tricky, but it’s well worth it!
