As a newbie to the area I look for local small business’ to patron. This fabric store has a wide variety of fabric and notions and it offers many classes. My visit was rather short this time around but I will return to take a class or two and of course to feed my fabric habit.

I went to this store on Dec. 13th just to look around and see if they carried a travel bag for my Bernina 750. I met Karen West, owner, who helped me look at a few Tutto totes. She was wonderful. I decided not to buy one at the time but she was extremely helpful as we were just on holiday travel. Her store was beautiful, well organized, clean and had every Bernina on display. I was amazed at how well she was organized, attentive and just wonderful to speak with. Owners like her is what makes businesses succeed. I purchased my Bernina from a Florida dealer where I lived for a bit less but it did not include as many classes as Thimble Pleasures offered. I look forward to returning to her store as soon as we’re back in the area. Not the cheapest place but definitely quality and fair priced for such!

Thimble Pleasures is a great quilt shop with a wide array of current fabrics and a good amount of kona cottons, flannels, minke type fabrics, and all the latest cool stuff the manufacturers are getting us hooked on. They have a tremendous amount of books and patterns for both quilting and clothes. I have not taken a class here, but the classes offered look interesting and fun. Thimble Pleasures also sells Berninas. The staff has always been pleasant and helpful. The store has many samples of the patterns they carry, which is always helpful.

The store has a great selection of fabrics but it is pricey. I’ve never found the sales people to be overly helpful although I went again yesterday & all the staff were helpful. Even showed my friend the Bernina BSR without any sales pressure. I did take a class there several years ago and the instructor was well prepared and helpful.

I loved going to this place when I lived in Chapel Hill. As a novice sewer, the best thing about Thimble Pleasures was the sewing classes. I took classes both from Eileen Hogan and Karen West. Both were excellent teachers with a lot of tips and knowledge about fabrics, patterns, and of course sewing. Thimble Pleasures’ range of quilting fabrics is extensive. They carry lots of cute indie-type patterns, too. If only I had time to sew them all! Any time I went in with a question or needed help choosing something, the staff were very friendly and eager to help. It’s true that their prices are higher than, for example, Hancock’s or JoAnn. But the quality and selection, as well as the practical knowledge of the staff, make the few extra bucks well worth it. If nothing else, definitely check out the classes. Eileen teaches a wonderful series of beginner classes using Amy Butler’s patterns. And of course they have classes for more advanced sewers, too. :-)

Quilting. If you’re a quilter, or a sewer, or anyone who appreciates nice fabrics with a broad range of color and patterns, you’ll like this store. Thimble Pleasures does a nice job of separating fabrics by color. They follow the rainbow in shades of the same color, from the darkest tone to the lightest. Standing in the store, just looking around, it’s pretty and cheerful and easy on the eye. The selection of fabrics and colors is pretty astounding. The store is huge with bolts of fabric everywhere. If you’re only looking for a few squares or remnants, Thimble Pleasures has those as well. It’s not a cheap store, but it does have everything you need including some very helpful employees who can guide you on pattern placement and sewing techniques.

I didn’t fly 3,000 miles to visit this fabric shop, but while I was at 3 Cups, I just so happened to stumble over to Thimble Pleasures, and I’m glad I did. They have a massive collection of fabrics, and tons of books and craft patterns. The sales associates were all very nice & friendly. The store was bright and cheery. The fabrics lined up against the wall & aisles were arranged by color & themes. I could have easily spent hours at this shop(if I didn’t have to be anywhere). The prices are comparable to other places. So, why only 4 stars & not 5? Well, fabric; generally, isn’t super cheap, so I do enjoy sales & the clearance sections, which they did not have a whole lot to choose from. Furthermore, it was a little section hidden in the back that only had about 10 – 15 different designs to choose from.
