Hampton Inn

Not impressed at all…
I should have looked harder as there was a nice Sheriton on the corner.
The room seemed dirty and had a smell.
Parking was poor. Unless you like hiking to your room.
The bugs in the room were an added feature.
I will put this one on my ignore list.

Edit: I took my rating down to 1 from 2 because they did not have hot water for the showers on my second night there. They couldn’t fix the problem till the next night. To me, no hot water is unacceptable.
Do not go to this place unless you want to suffer. If you only need a place to stay for the night, don’t need to go anywhere else around, and don’t care what the room temperature is like, this place will do; but here are the reasons why this place is not worth the price:
1) They do not have shuttle service to or from the airport. Their shuttle goes to only a few places (including UNC, thankfully), but it’s only every hour! They say that it runs till 7PM, but the last shuttle goes out at 6:30PM so you can either go out to dinner at 6:30 and get a cab back (they won’t pick you up), or have an early dinner at 5:30 and have only 1 hour to enjoy it. Terrible. Today I went to Whole Foods to get something to eat and I’d arranged them to pick me up at 6:10 but when I called they told me that they can only be there at 6:45 or so. They ended up picking me up around 6:30.
2) The internet connection is not reliable in the room, though it is quite good at the lobby area (where there’s nothing but a bunch of uncomfortable chairs and old tables).
3) When I got into my room it was freezing cold so I tried to turn the heat on, and, of course, it wasn’t working. No matter what I set the temperature to it would keep blowing cold air. The maintenance arrived timely, but it took them a long time to figure out what was wrong with the thing. They finally managed to fix it, but still, I would have been much happier if this had not happened.
4) I did not have a desk and a chair in my room. I had to ask for it specifically for them to bring one in. Apparently all rooms are supposed to have them, mine didn’t, so I don’t know what went wrong with that. Also, no microwave or mini-​fridge (though those are usually at more expensive hotels so I wasn’t really expecting to have those here in the first place)
5) Closet is tiny. And by tiny I mean short. It’s not convenient if you’re trying to hang up suits.
6) Every other lamp in the room was making a high-​pitched buzzing noise that got really annoying.
7) Their fitness room has 3 machines (I don’t really care, but some people might)
Here are what’s good about this place:
1) Free breakfast
2) Service is super friendly and helpful
So I kind of want to give them 2 stars, but the heat/​AC thing is taking it down to 1. Something like that should not be happening I think.
Oh whatever I’ll give them 2 stars; just because the staff is so nice.

If you are only looking for a hotel room it will do. The room are outdated, the AC was easily overwhelmed by humidity and it can be a bit tricky to find.
On the plus the staff is very friendly and it is hard to go wrong with free breakfast.

— Google maps did not like this address so it was hard to find, tucked on a small side street behind Bailey’s Pub & Grille, which is in a shopping center with Food Lion.
— This is one of two Hampton Inns that I know of where the rooms are actually outside so it might have been a different hotel before.
— There are 2 floors but the 2^nd floor must primarily be accessed via stairs rather than elevators. This can be especially annoying when it’s cold out (like it is today) and/​or you have alot of luggage (I had to help a couple with their multi-​pieced luggage)
— Free wireless internet that is very very unreliable
— $ 122 on a Friday night for all of the above is a bit pricey
+ Super nice people who suggested a delicious wings place
+ There were lots of free chocolate chip cookies at the front desk both times I checked, most likely because this hotel isn’t that busy
