We just had the most disappointing Cold Stone experience. The once upbeat and perky Cold Stone staff have lost their luster. Sadly, so has the quality. We were treating ourselves to ice cream and had a Cold Stone Creation in a waffle cone. We brought the ice cream home to enjoy it and found that there was MOLD on our waffle cone. That kind of made bf’s stomach hurt, but we just picked off that piece. I then took a piece from the other non-mold side and took a bite. It was terribly stale. Hard as rock. We scooped the ice cream out into our own dish. So glad we paid the extra money for the disgustingly OLD waffle cone. And not just from that morning old. Days upon days old. Two ice creams(small sizes) with one in a waffle cone racks up a whopping $ 10.35. I’d rather buy 3 pints of Ben & Jerry’s. We will never be back.

Great service– every time I come in — they are good at greeting you. I love their cake batter ice cream. I really despise yogurt do I am a good advocate for the unhealthy cold stone flavors. :)

I completely agree with John L. on this one. There are better options for ice cream and /or frozen yogurt on Franklin Street. Look no further than Ben & Jerry’s and /or Yogurt Pump. Perhaps this is a matter of personal preference, but Cold Stone ice cream is overwhelmingly sweet and heavy for me — all of their flavors. I know some people that swear by it, especially the cake batter, but it’s just not for me. +1 star for friendly service, though. They’ve got that much down.

Considering the options on Franklin Street for ice cream-related goodness(gelato at Sugarland and YoFrutt, froyo at Yogurt Pump and YoFrutt, lots of stuff at Ben & Jerry’s, the Walgreen’s freezer), Cold Stone isn’t doing anything totally unique. And what they do have going that could be construed as interesting(hot chocolate, even with a scoop of ice cream in it), is kind of underwhelming, and made in a microwave(at least Krispy Kreme has one of those machines. That being said, they have Cake Batter Batter Batter, and that stuff is like crack. Crack that’s actually made of cake batter and cookie dough.

I’m surprised this hasn’t been reviewed yet though maybe a chain ice cream joint is a bit pedestrian but this is my favorite(so far) in both Chapel Hill and Fort Collins CO. Both areas have a Ben and Jerry’s but I prefer Cold Stone Creamery because a) the temperature it is kept at makes a slightly softer product making it easier to personalize rather than pick from a predetermined list of flavors and b) you get a boatload more for your money(I don’t exactly savor ice cream, I snarf it so it needs to be plentiful.) I love the different concoctions they have or you can create your own. I always get mine in a waffle cone-my edible handle I like to call it. My favorite flavor is Cookie Doughn’t you Want Some More or I request birthday cake ice cream with chunks of cake, whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. I love how my husband talks me into getting the bigger size. They have a like it(small), love it,(regular) and gotta have it(jumbo love). I try to act confused about which is which so when I get the bigger size I can say OH, I THOUGHTTHISWASTHEREGULARSIZE! My bad. Or my husband who knows my affection for ice cream will just supersize me. Oh, did I mention if you leave a tip, they will sing you a song? I feel so bad that I would give them a tip NOT to sing because it must be humiliating when they have to belt out cheesy lyrics in front of their peers. The service was great the two times I went, tables and bathroom clean. I will be back.
