Rural King

Great store for a lot of things, but the best part is the gun counter.
They have friendly staff, a good selection, and the best prices in town.
It would be nice to see them expand their selection even more, and sell some of the more unusual ammunition sizes (like some of the east-​bloc calibers… 7.62×54R, 9×18 Makarov, 7.62×25 Tokarev, etc.)

I challenge any store to beat the selection, value, customer service and down home American pride that Rural King can offer. Not possible. This place has it all. I can get flannels, boots, 9 mm, shovels, weed wackers whatever you want and the best part is that it’s cheaper than anywhere else on earth. This store hasn’t forgot about the common man. I’m going here to start my 4^th of July right now. Get me some free coffee and popcorn and some American flag shirts. Merica!

Being a city dweller I wasn’t sure what to expect with this store that we had driven across many times as we left Champaign. I decided one day to hope in and see what they had to offer. I was very happy to read about the free hot popcorn they have when you walk in the store. The store itself is a cross between hardware store/​k-​mart/​farming supply. It has a little bit of everything from food to kids toys to farming equipment. Prices were good and people were friendly. There is a few scattered clearance aisles, with okay prices. Not too cheap like Target. All and all a fun place to stop by for some popcorn and shopping. For the little ones they can check out the bunnies and chicken in the front of the store
Pros: free popcorn, lots of different random items, large inventory of everything
Cons: if you don’t have a farm then a lot of the items sold are not useful

Where else can you buy live rabbits, chicken food, and kitchen stuff all at one time? Rural King is super affordable and super country. I simply love the place. The last time I was there, the gal at the register was a little slow as she was listening to a long story from the guy in front of me about gutting a deer. He had to go all into his preferred methods for field dressing deer, which is understandable, since it was hunting season. Anyway, the story ended and I bought my wood chips.

Rural King is a pretty awesome store for good ol’ country folk (I don’t really fall into that category, but I like to pretend every once in a while). The best part is definitely the free popcorn at the door. There’s no better way to make me feel welcomed than free food.
It’s «America’s Farm & Home Store»… one of the few places I know that you can get so much assorted stuff! The have lots of spices (and only $ 1 each), clothing (all your rugged essentials), gardening (vegetable garden anyone?), hunting gear, hardware, automotive supplies, pantry goods (lots of stuff for baking & frying), kitchenwares (lots of cast iron!), and plenty of food for your dogs, birds, or horses.
Definitely check it out in the spring when they have all their little baby
rabbits, ducks, and chickens for sale… so cute (and a little odd).
Be careful though… when you see a large display of dirty potatoes, don’t get this confused with Meijer… those are taters for planting!

If you’re ever running low on seed for your fields or mud for your barn, Rural King will fix you up real good! If your tractor needs fixed or your horse needs washed, all the supplies you’ll need can be found at RK.
They also got lots of nice shirts and hats with imagery ranging from bear scenes to deer scenes to wolf scenes. There’s also plenty of hilarious slogan hats like, «Get the buck outta my way, it’s pheasant season!»
The place is run by good Christian folks, so no need to worry about safety or anything like that. Free popcorn when you walk in the door too!
All in all, RK is the place for all your real rural needs!
