I grew up on Tag’s. Whether it was an Italian sausage po-boy, veal cutlet po-boy, a grilled turkey po-boy, or any of the various different meats they sell, I was always happy when we stopped at Tag’s or when my grandpa walked in the door with those oh-so-familiar po-boys wrapped in butcher paper. The house-made Italian sausage is, in my opinion, the best Italian sausage you can find. And the veal cutlets are thin, but not too thin, with the right amount of breading and seasonings. There are also a few shelves of chips, candy, and non-perishables. The staff is always friendly too! Highly recommend Tag’s for po-boys and meats/cheeses.

my wife and I walk in to get a hamburger special and deli meat for sandwiches after just leaving the hospital. The guy behind the deli is always a pleasure but the ladies taking orders and cooking are not friendly at all, took 7mins before she decided to take my order, she was to busy telling the kids from Chalmette high school that they can not share any of the items that they had purchased. Once my order was taken and I go 2 the serve ur self type of fountain drink machine and now am waiting on my food I passed my drink 2 my wife and was yelled at by the lady behind the counter telling my U CANNOTSHARETHAT, SHEHAS2GETHEROWN. I laughed at 1st thinking she was joking, she wasnt. I look over 2 my right and there were two white woman sharing food and drink but she didn’t fuss at them. put 2 and 2 together majority of the kids they were yelling at about sharing were minorities, and me and my wife being black shows that at least on the«cook» side they don’t like minorities. won’t be returning 2 this place. You want a fresh burger? Well, you can’t really do much better than Tag’s. This place is a meat market with an attached restaurant. The paying process was confusing on my first visit. First, the restaurant is in the right half of the building. Order at the counter and you’re given an order ticket. Disregard the cash register at the ordering counter and walk to the cashier in the meat market/grocery side. Pay there. They’ll staple a little cash register receipt to your larger order ticket. Turn them both in when your number is called. I’ve exclusively ordered burgers here and they’ve never disappointed. The Butcher Boy combo should be your starting point for experiencing Tag’s and its a steal at $ 5.99 — that’s cheaper than many of the combos at McDonalds/Wendy’s/BK. The burger as a whole is delicious, but its the meat that shines through. Not greasy, but intensely beefy, it is obviously ground fresh and walked over from the meat market side of the business. Tags draws a large crowd for lunch, so be prepared to wait a bit at peak times. And be prepared to park around the corner on Palmisano if necessary. Even since coming to Tag’s, I’ve dreamed of ordering the Papa Tag — a 1.5 lb burger served on a whole muffaletta bun. I haven’t gathered enough courage yet, but I’m getting closer with each visit. The Gambit’s Ian McNulty raves about Tag’s house-made sausages, but I haven’t tried them yet. I’m too addicted to the burgers to order anything else.

The Butcher Boy(½# burger), fries and soda – $ 5.99!!! The patty is homemade with a good amount of black pepper. I won’t say it was earth-shattering but for the price it was very good. The only complaint was the cold bun(pet peeve of mine) and I would pay for 2 slices of cheese(the patty is too big for just one slice). They also have 11″, 16″ and 33″ poboys all at very reasonable prices!!! If you’re out that way or just need a quick roadtrip from NOLA it’s worth it.
