Bean dip smells straight up like fart. I only came here to use a group-on my brother gave me. Being a vegan, I’m used to my veggie burritos with no cheese or sourcream but this spot couldn’t even get that right. The horchata was not up to par. It was watered down with no essence of rice or cinnamon. They get two stars for the salsa. It was on point. Everything else was marginal. Continue to pray for this business. It needs help.

Place is filthy! Hours suck! Food is super greasy! Ordered fajitas the veggies were dripping in grease. They ran out of salsa for the chips. Even the bottom of the chip basket was covered in grease. It’s definitely a mom and pop place kids were the wait staff.

Giving two stars because the kids who do the serving are adorable and this seems to be a family business trying to make it. But… When you walk in you have to seat yourself and that’s not the problem. The problem was that our table had several spots of food on it, dried chunks of food, and there were dirty napkins and food on the floor beneath our table. The place is kind of dirty all around and the adults aren’t rushing out to help the kids clean it so you kind of have to pick the least dirty table. It wasn’t until I asked TWICE that our table was wiped sort of clean. There was still hardened spills of food on it afterward. But the little girl who cleaned it tried her best and she looked a bit overwhelmed so I didn’t ask for more than I thought she could handle. The menudo ordered at our table had a burnt flavor. This was the only flavor present as other than this the menudo was flavorLESS.(Seriously my menudo rocks compared to theirs). The tripe was extremely soft and falling apart which just further confirms the suspicion that the menudo was overcooked. Perhaps it was a couple of days old and the reheating did this. I don’t know. Oh and you have to ask for them to put the hominy in. Why? I don’t know. Menudo should have hominy it. And you have to ask for the sides that usually accompany this dish: oregano, lemons/limes, dried chili, and onions. And I had to ask for a spoon because there wasn’t any silverware on the table. The young boy brought me a spoon when I asked but I had to ask for another because the one he gave me had some green stuff caked on it. Also ordered at our table were chili rellenos. They we’re also lacking in flavor.(Again, mine are way better). As was the rice and beans. Another dish ordered at our table was the chipotle chicken and the only flavor present in this dish is flaming hot.(Is that a flavor?) If your dish comes with tortillas be prepared to ask for them because they probably won’t remember on their own. And if you think all of the not-having-silverware-or-napkins-at-the-table, or filth above and below the tables and all around, or having to ask for the items that are supposed to accompany the meal was all because it was busy, you’re wrong. When we walked in there was only one other family there. The place was empty is what I’m saying. We tried this restaurant because we got a great Groupon deal. That was some serious money wasted. My advice to you: Don’t go here. Want good Mexican food? Find a friend who is Mexican because chances are his/her mom cooks like crazy. And not just halfway good tasting dishes, I’m talking authentic, great tasting food like my Mom’s and Aunt’s and mine. So why don’t we just stay home and cook? Because just like people who go out for steak or pasta that they could easily make at home, sometimes you just want to sit down and relax and have a meal cooked for you. If you can’t find a Mexican friend or you have one but his mom gave up cooking him home-cooked meals because your friend is kind of a jerk to her then go to the taco trucks on 8th. Seriously. The service will be faster, you’ll get all of your food, you’ll save some money, and your table will probably be a lot cleaner. No joke.

Awesome, amazing food. Authentic as it gets. Food may take a while but worth the wait.

This place looks a little sketchy but the food is great. Upon being seated we were offered chips and & salsa & were also offered a plate of refried beans topped w/cheese & a oil based chile sauce. It was addicting & nice change to salsa(oh & free) We have tried the carne asada burritos, enchilada plate & Birria & have never been disappointed. Would definitely recommend!

This place has the best birria that I have ever had! I can not say what the rest of their food is like because all I ever get is the birria. If you try their birria you will be hooked!

You can never go wrong when you come here. The chips and bean dip are delicious. I usually order enchiladas, I love the Mexican ones because they come with potatoes and a breaded chicken fillet on top yumm.

the food was great, but the service as to the waitress was awful. they don’t greet you at all. they are rude. they need to put more people in there to welcome and greet customers. and check up on them from time to time. i didn’t leave them a tip cuz i was waiting for 10 mins without a refil then as i got up she asked me i was like too late .very bad!

Just found this place on here so I went for lunch since it’s 5 minutes from my work. It’s a little shady, pretty dark inside, the floors are sticky and make noise when you walk in. I got the quesadilla supreme and it was pretty good. Carne asada and salsa, sour cream, pretty okay. Cheap too. I prolly won’t go again but it was ok.

Amazing quesedillas. They provide spicy, green, red salsas, onions, limes, chips, beans & cheese free, which make the meal amazing. Prices are very reasonable and service friendly. It’s literally feet off of Highway 99, so it’s an easy break while on the road.

Really good Mexican food. Small place but looks like typical older style mex restaurant. Authentic food & lots of flavor very savory. First time there today & enjoyed bean dip with chips… had 3 crispy taco special & had steak, carnitas, & chicken I liked them all. The wet chili verde burrito my wife got was delicious. Had good flavor with some hot chilies. Should check out if looking for good eats in ceres. Ceres has limited food options so was glad to find a new spot to grub at.

The real deal had the Menudo soup with the foot in it. Great just like Maria’s in Jalpa, Zacatecas at the market. Keep up the good cooking

I was ignored for the first 5 minutes, then once I was acknowledged and asked, «did you want something?», I replied, «ya, we’ll be eating here.» the lady said, ok and walked away from me. I guess you’re supposed to seat yourself, but nowhere did I see or was it made apparent. Being our first time here, and basing our visit off of all the other reviews of this place, I was more than dissatisfied from the get go. The«smiling ladies»(in someone elses review) looked grumpy, and our server was not very personable or hospitable. Our food came out one plate at a time, and a minute or two between deliveries. We’re still sitting here waiting for ANY attention, and our drinks are empty and have been. My enchilada plate w asada and green sauce was spicy as warned, but full of unchewable, and/or overcooked meat, nerve and fat. The birria also lacked meat. The two things this place did well was the opening chips, salsa and bean dip. Which was great. And the house made tortillas as well. Definitely not a place we’ll be coming back to. I now understand why, as another review mentioned, this place is empty of people and overall quality of food and service

Chivas Crudas is maybe the best Mexican restaurant in the Modesto area. I’ve had the Birria(goat) in a wonderful soup, Camaron a la Diabla in a smokey, HOT sauce, and Chili Verde in a smooth, spicy green sauce. Each was exotic in taste and beautifully prepared. Tortillas are homemade, warm and delicious. The chips and salsa served before the meal are fantastic. The cooked salsa is just the right heat and the bean dip served along side has a drizzle of a smokey, hot sauce similar to the a la Diable sauce. The restaurant is simple and very clean, run by smiling Mexican ladies, eager to please. The prices are too reasonable for this quality of food. I’ll be back, often!!!

I’d thought this place burned down, but I just went here last weekend and it had not only not burned down, but actually expanded. This is the best place for birria in Northern California. Figure it out.
