Ate here last night for the first time and was very impressed!!! The décor is done first notch and the food was great. This family owned business has been operating for over forty years and now I know why. You will not be disappointed.

This place is not super authentic, but it’s decent food. I’m not one of those snobs who thinks it has to be perfectly authentic for it to be good, but honestly the food is mediocre. The service has typically been good though. It seems like they have a good booze selection, though I’ve only gone for the food. There are definitely better eats in Ceres, but it’s charming enough to stop in on occasion. If you’re looking for a good alcohol selection along with non-authentic Mexican food, this is your stop.

We were so looking forward to dinner at Alphonso’s tonight. It was my husband’s choice for his birthday dinner. I checked their website for their hours. It said they were open 11:00 — 8:00 today. We had friends meeting us at 5:00 and when we arrived, they were closed. The time on their sign had been changed. The 8 had been removed and 4 was written in with a black marker. It would be a good idea if Alphonso’s would update their website.

Best authentic Mexican food in town! No other place tastes quite so good. I like the shredded beef burrito, and I order it «wet»! I’ve been going here for over 20 years! The owners and employees are all so sweet as well. I just wish they would let some light in. I don’t usually take family & friends there because there are no windows. But they did recently paint it in a brighter color. Great choice!

Just not authentic. Beans had no flavor and the steak that I ordered medium was dry and well-done. I had a garden salad that was nearly inedible due to litterally over a half cup of dressing on it. Service was poor. No offer for refills what-so-ever. In fact the server disappeared so my husband went in search for her. She stated she’d be out in 2 minutes and 10 minutes later she did come by. We were one of two tables occupied. The only reason they didn’t get one star is because they remain one of the very few retaurants in the area.

My first time here, and I LOVEDIT! My sister and I felt we needed to try this place.. I had heard it was/is the best Mexican Food Restaurant in the area. So we ordered the Chile relleno dinner, and it was sooo great! I am very picky about my food, but from the time we sat down and started on the chips and salsa, we knew the food was great! Never had a guacamole taco before, and it was surprisingly wonderful! The place was clean as can be, and the waitress was friendly! Prices were fair! Definitely going back for more!

I’ve been coming here for 25 years and the food is very consistent. While maybe not as authentic as some Mexican diners around town, the tacos are very good here. i could eat these not stop. Service is above average. The downside is that chips are barely ok, and the salsa is very liquidy and spicy. Also, the prices are higher than I like to pay for most Mexican food. Not my favorite, but I’m sure I’ll be back as I normally am at least every other month.

My hubby and I are new to the area and wanted to try out something new. I suggested Alfonso’s Mexican Grill. I have seen the place when driving through downtown Ceres. We went for lunch during the week. You seat yourself and we chose a comfy half circle booth. I was impressed by how clean everything was. I didn’t see even a speck of dust. The menu offers combination plates, seafood, chicken, beef, and pork. There is also a section for breakfast. We ordered the lunch special an enchilada for me and a tostada for my hubby. The food was good, nothing unique or flavors to make it stand out. Rice and beans were the sides. Keep in mind they will charge you for extras such as my husband asked for some jalepenos and thw waitress brought him a tiny bowl of pickled jalapeños. She did not mention the extra charge, I think it was $ 1.50. Overall a nice place for lunch.

Atmosphere is nice. The waitress was great but the food was not great. The chili rellleno was very different and didn’t like it at all. Both my husband and I thought the shredded beef taco tasted funny

Love this place. Been eating here for about 6 years now. Great shredded beef tacos and burritos. Staff is always friendly and food is there in 5 minutes or less. Trudy worked there for about 19 years before retiring(couldn’t stand us anymore. Lol). This place seems to have happy workers that stay.

My cousin has been talking up this place for awhile now. So the other night my husband and I decided to give it a go for drinks. At 1st I love the look of this place. A dark little Mexican place. Fantastic. I ordered a margarita. It was a rough one. I could not drink it. The mix was yucky sweet and the tequila was cheapy cheap. Chips and salsa were great. For dinner I ordered the camarones a la diabla(devil shrimp) oh man were they hot… too hot. I like spicy but could not eat these! Hubby had a combo. I will say his shredded beef taco was rockin! I ended up eating it. :) All in all a quaint local business that was all right. I feel a good lunch spot.

I love the shredded beef there, but not happy with the seafood. Also I was surprised they didn’t serve jäger bombs and we ended up spending more then I thought we would for our drinks. It was very expensive if u do anything except eat tacos lol

Awful. Everything tasted like it was fried in old grease. Didn’t like water out of a plastic pitcher served in plastic glasses, either. Chips were served with salsa and some non-descript vegetables that looked like old cabbage was in it. Very un-appetizing. Will NEVER return.

If you are looking for a nice quiet place to enjoy dinner this is it. The service here is friendly and the food is solid. I like the shredded beef tacos. If you are tired of long lines and loud crowds I recommend Alfonso’s.

Sally Lara(owner) has been running this place forever. Her parents owned it and while she runs the one in Ceres, her sister runs the one on Yosemite. Totally outstanding, our family has been eating here for over 30 years. Very old Mexican recipes and a top notch family lunch /dinner experience all the way around.
