We came here for our work Christmas party. The chef was fun and entertaining. The good was good and we did get decent portions. I was disappointed in the sauces they gave us… it wasn’t like most Hibachi places. We didn’t get green tea nor did they use garlic for the dishes. The overall experience was good so I would be back again.

I don’t know if it has New owners or management but it was horrendous I’ve never been to a Japanese steakhouse with so many I guess what you would call Mexican-Japanese cooks the service was OK but the food was not up to par fish was not fresh I couldn’t even eat the lobster i only partially enjoyed the filet Mignon even the hibachi rice wasn’t right, put it this way it wasn’t 30 min before my stomach was crying for help Also the Mexican-Japanese waitresses where killing Me in those outfits it was more of a bad show than dinner, I’m sorry but I much rather the ambience match the food that’s why we pay for the whole experience, for what I spent there i could have done dinner and a show elsewhere .I want a Japanese cook cooking Japanese food if I wanted Mexican I would have gone to a mex restaurant in which I also love. Bottom line the food was not at all what I expect from a good Japanese food steakhouse.

Soup was salty and tasted like water with soy sauce. The hibachi chef didn’t make the volcano with the onion like the other table. Everything tasted like soy sauce. They didn’t use garlic as the real hibachi usually do. We will never go back there again! Avoid this place. A 19% tip was automatically applied to the bill. We were a party of 3. I would give them no star at all if it was possible.

The renovation fixed the bad and kept the good. The food is classic Gasho, same as it’s been my whole 34 years. Not trendy, but tasty, satisfying, and the presentation is fun. Steak and shrimp are most popular. The teriyaki is not sweet, which is very much a good thing. Accessories are highlights: the mushroom soup(pleasant, warming), the salad(bright dressing, fresh, and crisp), and the ginger sauce. The renovation brightened the place up, got rid of the infamous carpet, and improved the ventilation. You can still smell the place, but it’s from the day’s hot oil cooking and not meals decades past. Much improved experience.

11÷28÷15− Went to gasho’s on saturday night, it was packed but the hostess in front pulled up my reservation right away and seated me within 5 minutes. The habachi food was delicious and he made my steak and shrimp excellent. Overall was great fun night and I look forward to going again.

This was our first visit to Gasho since they closed for an update to their décor. The place does not look drastically different, just seemed brighter. More importantly, the food was great. We had made reservations via their webpage and there were no issues of an unreasonable wait when we got there. This is a hibatchi restaurant, so the goal is to go the hibatchi grill seats(of 8) as full before starting service. We were a group of 3 and were sharing the space with a family of 4. If you are lucky, you get a congenial group of people together and you all enjoy the show and are able to share info on how the various meals are. My group was fairly boring as we all got Master’s Chef, which includes miso soup, salad, hibatchi shrimp appetizer, filet mignon and chicken, hibatchi rice(extra charge of $ 4), and vegetables to include mushrooms and bean sprouts. The other family got scallops and regular steak versus filet. We all commented on how good the food was(we had all been to Gasho before) and how we were happy the quality of food had not changed. The seating time was 6:40pm and we were back in our car after 8pm. We had food fairly quickly and the show was enjoyable(new tricks) and we were able to eat our entrees pretty quick. For 3 people, 2 beers, the check was $ 98 plus $ 20 for gratuity. Strongly recommend making reservations but the visit for us was great and we will be going back.

This place is located right up the road from the Woodbury Commons so it’s a place I can imagine is frequented by both locals and out of town shoppers. I fell into the latter category. I called to make reservations and was told that«If you’re looking for a reservation between 5PM and 7PM we don’t have any.» Luckily, I wanted a later time for myself and 3 friends. I booked it for 8:15 and was told almost verbatim, «You will lose your reservation if you’re not here by 8:30. We get very busy on Saturdays and don’t allow late shows for seating. If you’re not here within 15 minutes, we will not hesitate to give away your table.» That’s a standard rule but the way it was said was so condescending, I almost wanted to cancel my reservation right then. Karma is a truly a 5 letter word because when we arrived early, we were told, «We are running behind and it may be a few minutes longer before we can seat you. REALLY? After I was told over the phone that punctuality is everything, you’re the ones behind??? My friends were pretty heated, but we were also starving so after about 15 minutes and our hostess almost forgetting about seating us, we sat down. We waited about 5 minutes or so before our drink orders were taken and then after being in the restaurant for about 40 minutes, the chef finally came out start the show. It was a standard show, no complaints, but what really blew my mind was the $ 4 fee they charged for Hibachi rice. That’s right. The fried rice that you watch the chef cook is an extra charge. That’s like going to a Spanish restaurant and them charging you extra for beans. Or going to an Italian restaurant and they charge you for the sauce. Why in the world would I eat at a hibachi restaurant if I didn’t want hibachi rice. Just absurd. $ 30 later I finished my meal. According to our menu, our dinner entrees also came with green tea. I was so irritated with my experience when our waiter didn’t bring out the green tea, I didn’t even complain, it just wasn’t worth the trouble. I think this restaurant realizes that they don’t need outstanding customer service because most of the customers they service come from the Commons and have a low likelihood of returning. Sadly, I visit the commons many times a year but will not waste my time visiting Gasho again.

We were coming back from a day trip and decided to stop by Gasho for dinner. My friend had been there long ago when she was young and wanted to relive her memory. Hibachi was very trendy back in the 80s and now its so common you can find it anywhere, even immortalized by Barney Stinson on «How I Met Your Mother». Let’s be honest, you are not there for authentic or gourmet cuisines. You are there for the fun and a little show. The food was good and not overly salty or coated w MSG. Having said that Gasho was satisfactory. Good food. Good service. Chef was entertaining. Large portions. We enjoyed our onion volcano. Classic! Bathrooms were very clean. Cheers to Reliving Fun Childhood Memories!

The«new» Gasho lacks proper management who understands and appreciates the cuisine. Our night began with microwaved sake(a short cut, which does not heat the sake thoroughly, nor allow it to remain hot for an extended period of time). Then we were brought to a hibachi table that leaked grease on someone in our party. Rather than be apologetic or courteous, the manager approached our table and barked:“Is it you?” I say bark because her tone was aggressive and confrontational – not your usual head manager. And, I have no idea who their sushi chef is, but they served us cooked salmon in our spicy salmon roll. And, no we did not order cooked sushi. I won’t be returning any time soon.

We went to the«new Gasho» last night for dinner and I would barely call it «new». They tiled the entire restaurant which is a lawsuit waiting to happen. The tile is either very sticky or completely slippery from all the grease of the hibachi tables.(If you are wearing a pair of flip flops or heels to dinner you will probably go flying!). They also painted some accents around the restaurant red and renovated the«lounge» part of it to have different tables and chairs. Other than that, I didn’t see many other changes. The menu was different and appeared smaller than it was before. The rice and vegetables portion they give you with your meal was also a lot smaller. The food was good and I think a lot less greasy than it was before. The service was ok but everything seemed to take awhile. We had a 7:00 reservation and didn’t leave the restaurant until 9:20. We were waiting what seemed like forever just to have our drink order taken and then again for them to clear the plates when everything was done. The staff seemed courteous and helpful. When I called to make the reservation they told me they would only hold the reservation for 15 minutes if we were late, which is understandable. Overall, it was ok. It wasn’t bad and it wasn’t good, I would probably give them another chance down the road, we just aren’t in a rush to go back.

I think the bad reviews on the newly reopened gasho are off-base. Yes, there were glitches(why did they try to seat our group of 4 at opposite ends of the hibachi table?) But overall it was a good experience and at least average or better food. The chef may not have been Japanese but he did a great job/show as did the waitress. And despite what another reviewer said, they had miso soup and the usual salad. You have to give them a little to get up to speed before ripping them apart. The prices aren’t above other similar places and I’d go back again.

Welcome Back Gasho; after 4 months of being closed for renovations and open back up for business I want to share: 1 — Great job in cleaning up the restaurant . 2– I’m so happy to see you brought back the talented cooks and the management team. 3– The flavors in the food are there, which makes you want to come back. 4– Even though tonight was a soft opening, the team came through with service and quality of food. 5 — I believe in supporting our local business and the restaurant was spot on! Thank you Roy, Michelle and team for working hard and putting your best foot forward! You have our support… Update… The service is catching up with the good flavors of the food. I’ve been a regular for the last two years going there once a week for the Police discounts they had in the past. I’m concerned that the staff may be under pressure by owners and could have a impact on the experience. Time will tell?

We called ahead to try and make a reservation but the line had a message saying they were still closed. We decided to try and go in and wait for a table instead. The party in front of us had a reservation and they were told they still had to wait 20 minutes. We asked how long for four. It was six fifteen. He told us it would be half an hour, so we put our name in but the whole time he was confusing himself, on and off the phones — this place has no organization and inadequate staffing. We confirmed that we could come back in half an hour and he said«Well, you’d have to be back here at exactly 7:30.» We said that was an hour and fifteen minutes, not thirty. The host had no response and just stared at us. At that point we decided we didn’t need to eat here.

Was a terrible dinner. All my clothing smell like fish. Everyone eats too close to each other… and the waiter dropped food on me and he did not apologize. I will never come back

My fried rice had hair in it. I felt disgusted and requested another plate. The restaurant did not have the courtesy to not include the plate in the final check. Horrible experience

Smoke was overwhelming food overcooked and way too salty… would not go back. Décor needs updating… doesn’t have a Japanese feel anymore. Don’t know how they are staying in business.

No better than before. Went to a birthday party here thats the only reason im here. Tonight we had a real treat of raw sewage leaking out all over the grounds. The smell is unbearable and people are tracking it everywhere. Needless to say the party was canceled and we went to chilis instead. Ill be calling board of health on monday. People please avoid bacteria and other sickness dont come here. Check out the photo of this issue I posted.

I have eaten here so many times in the past after a shopping trip to Woodbury Commons. This place used to be really good but after today’s experience, all I can say is– DISGUSTING! The place is so dirty! The rug is nasty and black, bathroom floor sticky, no ventilation, run down, and tacky décor. Now on to the food. The onion soup appetizer was the only decent thing. I ordered hibachi chicken(and they make you pay for fried rice now). When they threw the chicken on the grill I knew immediately it wasn’t right. It was like a piece of leftover chicken carcass that normally would go in the garbage. I was kinda expecting a chicken breast, like they are supposed to give you. I thought maybe if they saturated it in enough butter/oil/soy sauce it may be edible. Nope. Couldn’t even chew it, felt like it had bones in it but it was just hardened chicken fat. Gamey taste. I couldn’t eat it. Wait staff, chef was friendly. Waitress– no so much. She appeared angry to be working, I guess if I worked at a place that serves chicken carcasses I’d be angry a lot too. Go to Mt. Fuji, it’s a bit south from here, authentic, and way better food. You’d think with all the negative reviews about this place they would actually be proactive about making changes. On a side note, my clothes smell so bad, my boyfriend and I are about to burn them in my fire pit.
